Aiken - Services for Eula Mae Chalflinch Baughman, 83, widow of Joe Baughman, are 11 a.m. Monday at George Funeral Home with burial in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 5-7 this evening at the funeral home. Born in New Holland to Ransom and Pearlie Gantt Chalflinch, she died January 17, 2004. Surviving are five sons; six daughters; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

CAMDEN - A graveside service for T.A. Brown, 79, will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2004, in Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Atkerson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2004, in Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease & Related Disorders Association, P.O. Mr. Brown died Friday, January 16, 2004. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late Harmon and Henrietta Arledge Brown. He had retired from the Kendall Company and an avid fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Belva Belk Brown; stepdaughter, Becky Huggins Crawford of Elgin; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; sisters, Helen Jesse and Curley Brown Taylor, both of Great Falls, Margaret Brown Hall of Camden, and Betty Brown Edwards of Spartanburg; brother, John Henry Brown of Ashwood; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Evelyn Brown Cooper; sister, Audrey Brown Belk; brothers, Jackie L. Brown, Woodrow Brown and Sonny Brown.

William Caldwell
BENNETTSVILLE - Services for Mr. William D. Caldwell, 82, will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Marlboro Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 123, or the Bennettsville Fire Dept., P.O. Box 373, Bennettsville, SC 29512. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Monday at Whitner-Evans Funeral Home.
Mr. Caldwell died Saturday, January 17, 2004. Born in Cleveland, he was a son of the late Perry Deford and Mabel Pipes Caldwell. He graduated in 1943 from Ohio State University as a ceramic engineer. During World War II, he worked with Mellon Industries in Pennsylvania in research and development for the U.S. Army and Navy. He worked as a ceramic engineer for the Perfection Stove Company of Ohio. He was research and manufacturing superintendent for the Tappan Company in Kentucky. He was manufacturing manager and technical director for plants in Canada and Mexico for the Columbus Stove Company of Ohio. He retired at 61 from Emerson Electric Company after serving as manufacturing consultant and vice president of Divisions in New Jersey, New York, and South Carolina. He pioneered the development of low temperature porcelain enameling in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. He served on the Board of Directors for six companies during his long and distinguished career. After retiring, he became a manufacturing consultant for companies in New Jersey, Georgia, Tennessee, and Missouri. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was married to the late Marjorie Dalton Caldwell.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Odom, (H. Dixon), of Bennettsville; grandchildren, Tammy Binger, (Rob) and Marsha Moore, (Tony) and great-grandchildren, Tony and Tyler Puricelli. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara C. Weygandt.

David Canty
Florence - Services for David Canty, 56, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Emmanuel UMC, where he was a member, (viewing at 1:30). Job's Mortuary, Sumter, is in charge. Born in Sumter to Tal and Janie Fleming Canty, he died Jan. 14, 2004. He served in the U.S. Navy. Surviving are children, Latonja, Kevin, Keith, Sade; sisters, Annette, Janett; four grandchildren; nieces; nephews; others.

Dr. Cecil Clark
SMITHSBURG, Md. - Dr. Cecil Newton Clark, 71, of 11626 Wolfsville Road, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Wednesday, January 14th, 2004, in Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md.
Born Monday, October 24, 1932, in Nassau, Bahamas, he was the son of the late Newton Cecil and Majorie McDowell Clark.
He was the husband of Anne L. Clark. They were married for five years.
Dr. Clark received his Ph.D. in Psychology and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University and was also a graduate of Washington School of Psychiatry Family Therapy Program, Albert Ellis Rational Therapy Associate Fellow and served his Internship at Florida State Evaluation Center in Tallahassee, Fla. Dr. Clark began his career as an Assistant Professor at West Virginia University and Florida State University. In 1972 he began working as a Program Research Specialist for Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia. In 1976 he became the Director of a group practice in Montgomery County, Md. In 1989 Dr. Clark along with his late wife Faith Clark, Ph.D. authored and published a book entitled, Hassle-Free Homework, based on their experiences at the National Learning Lab which they established. From 1993 to 1998 Dr. Clark was employed as the Director of Psychology, Brook Lane Health Services. He was also a member of Maryland State Police Crisis Responce Team and the E.A.P., American Psychological Assn., Maryland Psychological Assn., National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, Republican Party and was also a member of the Episcopal Church and attended St. John's Episcopal Church in Hagerstown, Maryland.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Jennifer Bell, Columbia, S.C.; son, Kenneth Cecil Clark, Jupiter, Fla.; stepdaughter, Kathleen Davison, Mt. Holly, N.J. He is survived by three grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2004 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 101 S. Prospect Street, Hagerstown, Md., the Rev. Scott Bellows officiated.
Interment private at the convenience of the family.

Leslie Clifton Sr.
Darlington - A graveside service for Leslie Eugene Clifton Sr., 77, is 11 a.m. Monday in Grove Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 tonight at Belk Funeral Home. Born in Darlington Co. to Ivey and Taylor Romell Clifton, he died Jan. 17, 2004. Surviving: wife, Pauline Miller Clifton; children, Gene Clifton Jr., Brenda Dudley; grandchildren, Leslie, Haven Clifton, Chad Timmons, Paula Corbin; two great-grandchildren; one sister.

Orangeburg - Services for Karame` Kinte` Corley, 26, are 6:30 tonight at Glover's Funeral Home. Born in Orangeburg to Rutley Lambright and Brenda Marcus, he died Jan. 14, 2004. He worked at Burger King for seven years and attended Kingdom Hall. Surviving: parents; stepfather, Robert Marcus; sisters, Camelia Hill, Asia Platt; grandmother, Dorothy Lambright; grandfather, John Pough; aunts; uncles.

James Craft
Lugoff - A graveside service for James Craft, 72, is 4 p.m. today in Pine Grove Baptist Churchyard. Kornegay Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Fairfield Co. to John and Gatsie Baker Craft, he died January 16, 2004. He was a retired truck driver. Surviving are wife, Edith Osborne Craft; mother; children, James, Cahterine, Rickey, Donna, Jurray, Wayne; siblings, Alfred, Lois.

Jo Annice Dobbs
LEXINGTON - Jo Annice Dobbs, Ed.D., passed from her home into the Lord's hands January 16, 2004, after an extended illness. Born in Baldwyn, Miss., she was the daughter of Betty Joe Dobbs and the late James Harold Dobbs of Baldwyn.
Dr. Dobbs, a beloved elementary band teacher, inspired and encouraged hundreds of students throughout her 17 year career in Lexington District One Schools. Dr. Dobbs also taught fourth and fifth grade Sunday school at Lexington Baptist Church. She participated in numerous mission trips here and abroad and she served on the missions committee at her church. Showing and sharing Christ's love was the most important thing in her life. An avid student of life, Dr. Dobbs was founding member of Challenging Children for Christ and the international Fellowship of Educators. Dobbs played French horn in various church and community orchestras. She was also a member of the Carolina Brass Ensemble.
Dr. Dobbs is survived by her mother; sisters; Cresada Barnett of Corinth, Miss. and Candy Dobbs of Baldwin, and brother, James Harold (Skip) Dobbs of St. Louis, Mo.. She will be sorely missed by her niece, three nephews and many close friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2004, at Lexington Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the International Fellowship of Educators, P.O. Box 2318, Lexington, SC 29071. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is in charge.

Willie Ferguson
Springfield - Services and burial for Willie Ferguson, 80, are 1 p.m. Monday at Samaria Missionary Baptist Church. Jackson's Memorial Chapel is in charge. Born to Asia Sr. and Lena Jenkins Ferguson, he died January 15, 2004. Surviving: wife, Georgianna Ferguson; children, Willie Jr., Lenny Ferguson, Loretta York; six siblings; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Mary Genevrino
IRMO - A Funeral Mass for Mary Jean Genevrino, 70, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Chapin. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 195 Amick's Ferry Road, Chapin, S.C. 29036. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday with the Rosary at 7 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel.
Mrs. Genevrino died Thursday, January 15, 2004. She was born in Newark, N.J. and later lived in Huntington, Long Island, N.Y. where she was a Realtor and enjoyed sailing on Long Island Sound. After retirement, she and her husband relocated to Irmo where she attended Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was a member of Young Citizens Bowling League.
Surviving are her husband, Gerard Genevrino; and several nieces and nephews.

Thelma Gray
ORANGEBURG - Mrs. Thelma Jeffcoat Gray, 83, died Friday evening, Jan. 16, 2004, in Heartland of Lexington.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Rivelon Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Williams officiating and burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Gray was born in Salley, and was the daughter of the late Dan Jeffcoat and Pearl West Jeffcoat. She was a member of Rivelon Baptist Church where she served as secretary of the Sunday School for many years. She was the widow of Arthur McDaniel Gray.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Judy) Dyches, of Orangeburg, Mrs. Melt (Peggy) Felkel, of Chapin; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth McArthur (Linda) Gray, of Cameron; six grandchildren, Dal Dyches, Chapin, Tonja Chinners, Orangeburg, Terri Rutland, Lexington, Christi Johnson, Irmo, , Kelly Gartman, Orangeburg, Macky Gray, Cameron; 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home and other times, friends may call at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Dyches, 1895 Middleton St., Orangeburg, and the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Rivelon Baptist Church, 395 Rivelon Road, Orangeburg.

Catherine Griffin
GREENVILLE - Catherine Umbach Griffin, 86, died on January 17, 2004.
Born on December 12, 1917, she was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. Connor C. Griffin. She was the daughter of the late Eugene R. Umbach Sr. and Catherine Webster Umbach. Mrs. Griffin attended College of Charleston and Anderson School of Nursing and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Before retirement, she worked as a secretary in the medical field.
Surviving are a sister, Florence E. Umbach of Laurens; a sister-in-law, Nancy S. Umbach of Columbia; a niece, Barbara Brice; and two nephews, William R. Brice and Robert B. Kay Jr. She was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Umbach Brice and a brother, Eugene R. Umbach Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Springwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from Tuesday 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 111 Hampton Ave., Greenville, SC 29601.

Marion Howell
ST. GEORGE - Mrs. Marion Smith Howell, 93, of 109 Quaker Road, St. George, died Friday, January 16, 2004, in Aiken. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Baptist Church with the Pastor Dan Griffin, and the Rev. Eddie Fogle officiating. Burial will follow in the St. George Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Crowe, Eddie Patrick, David Banner, Richard Sutcliffe, Bryan Jordan, and Joey Westbury. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home.
Mrs. Howell was born September 21, 1910, in Snelling, Barnwell County, and was a daughter of the late Lewis Marion and Cleo Patterson Hill Smith. A 1927 graduate of St. Matthews High School and a 1931 graduate of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, she was an elementary school teacher in Mauldin, Grover, and had retired from St. George Public Schools. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Dewey Weeks Sunday School Class, the Heavenly Harmonies Choir, Mission Hall of Fame, Rankin-Wells Group of W.M.U. and served as Superintendent of the Junior Sunday School Department. She was a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club and the Thursday Afternoon Book Club. She was pre-deceased by her husband John Albert Howell, son, John Albert Howell Jr. and daughter, Suzanne Howell.
Surviving are a son, Lewis V. Howell and his wife Judy Howell of Aiken and daughters, Kay Jordan and her husband, Lewis Jordan, of Clemson, and Marion Tolson and her husband, Bob Tolson, of Aiken. Grandchildren, Lisa Jordan, Clemson, Jordie Jordan, Okinawa, Jennifer Lawrence, Matthews, N.C., Suzanne Bice, Hendersonville, N.C., Beth Alan, Lexington, Patti Burns, St. George, Chip Howell and Adam Howell, Aiken. Great-grandchildren Bryan, Caroline, Marcus, and Daniel Jordan, Sarah, Kay, Grace, Jack, and Bonnie Lawrence, Olivia Howell and Brandon Craig, Tyler, Allen, and Lauren Bice, Kelli Alan, and Sarah Burns.

Newberry - Services for William Edward Hunnicutt, 72, widower of Carrie Hunnicutt, are 2 p.m. today at College Street Baptist Church, with visitation following the service. Maria Hunter
COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Maria Mitchell Hunter, 71, of Columbia will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church parlor. Inurnment will be in Elmwood Cemetery at a private service. Memorials may be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 N. Trenholm Rd., Columbia, SC 29206. Shives Funeral Home is in charge.
Mrs. Hunter died January 16, 2004. Born in Mt. Holly, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Mitchell. She had retired from Richland School District 1 and was a charter member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Hunter was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and an avid bridge player.
Surviving are children, Laura (Tomo) Kawaguchi and their children, Maria, Nora and Sophia of Columbia; Wilson (Ann Harvin) and their daughter, Rebecca Ann of Greenwood; William (Cheryl) and their children, Justin and William; Adele (Gordon) Thomas and their children, Tripp Volk, Slayden, and Joseph, all of Columbia. She was predeceased by a brother, Burton Forest Mitchell Jr.

Lorenzo Jones
CONWAY - Lorenzo Elwood Jones, age 87, died Saturday, January 17, 2004, in his home following a brief illness.
Mr. Jones was born August 25, 1916, in the Adrian Community, a son of the late Lorenzo Dow Jones and the late Lula Tompkins Jones. He was educated in the public schools of Horry County and farmed in the Adrian Community until retirement. Mr. Jones was a member of Poplar United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Bernice Floyd Jones and a son, Floyd Elmond Jones. Surviving are three daughters, Marilyn Holland of Yorktown, Va.; Carolyn Grimball of Columbia, and Dr. Linda Carson of Lyman; one sister, Flossie Taylor of Mauldin; five grandchildren, Dr. Allan Grimball of Somerset, Ky., Jennifer Holland Herget of Yorktown, Va., Barbara Holland of New York City, Kelly Carson McGregor of Charlotte, and Richard Carson Jr. of Columbia; four great-grandchildren, Josh Herget, Mandi Herget, Ally Herget, Loren Grimball.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Poplar United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Beadle officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.

Visitation is 5-7 tonight at Hatcher Funeral Home. Born in Abbeville, Ga. to Clyde and Annie M. Ledford, he died January 16, 2004. Surviving: mother; daughters, Melanie Prichard, Katrina Walker; four siblings; three grandchildren.

Mattie Lowery
MANNING - After a joyful and fruitful life of 75 years, Mattie Doris Jenkinson Lowery of Manning, widow of Chester LaVerne (Bob) Lowery, departed this life on January 16, 2004, and entered her heavenly home.
Born near Pinewood October 12, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Marion Delmar and Mattie Broughton Jenkinson. She lived in Summerton for most of her life, and was a member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a faithful and loving wife, mother and grandmother who was totally devoted to her family. In addition to being a homemaker, she held a variety of jobs outside the home, including providing homemade lunches for Clarendon Hall students during the early years of the school. Mrs. Lowery also worked in banking and, along with her husband, owned and operated the Garden City Supermarket at Garden City Beach for a number of years.
Left to cherish her precious memories are two sons, Robert L. (Bobby) Lowery and his wife, Elaine, of Sumter, and Mark J. Lowery and his wife, Byrlene, of Summerton; three daughters, Jeannie L. Wilson and her husband, Tommy, of Alcolu, Patti L. Odom and her husband, Les, of Sumter, and Suzy L. Slice and her husband, Jim, of McDonough, Georgia; 17 grandchildren, Jimmy Lowery, Danny Lowery, John Lowery, Donald Lowery, Mark Lowery Jr., Kim Lowery, Jill W. Hickson, Reese Wilson, Cameron Wilson, Neil Masincupp, Ginger M. Leeman, Becky M. Marlowe, Malachi Slice, David Slice, Jimbo Slice, John Slice, and Joseph Slice; eight great-grandchildren, James Lowery, Maggie Lowery, Michael Lowery, Sarah Lowery, Jacob Lowery, Treston Lowery, Lily Leeman and Emma Leeman; two brothers, Johnny Jenkinson and Bill Jenkinson, both of Summerton; one sister, Betty J. Keels of Pinewood; and one sister-in-law, Ida E. Jenkinson of Summerton.
One brother, M. Delmar Jenkinson Jr., preceded her in death.
Mrs. Lowery chose to donate her body to the USC School of Medicine in Columbia. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2004, at Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church with the Reverend Benjamin T. Barwick Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of her brother, Johnny Jenkinson, Furse Road, Pinewood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607; Harvin Clarendon County Library; or a charity of one's choice.
