Harvey Lucas Sr.
COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Harvey O'Neil Lucas Sr., 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Greenlawn Memorial Park, conducted by the Reverend Eric Sloan. Memorials may be made to South Beltline Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia.
Mr. Lucas died January 16, 2004. Born in Swansea, he was a son of the late Thomas Wannamaker and Leola DeBerry Lucas. Mr. Lucas was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in World War II. He was a retired pipe fitter with the Local Union 421 and he was a member of the VFW.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Myrtle Beheler Lucas of Columbia; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Albert Morgan of Columbia, Patrecia and Michael Baker of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mary Beth Lucas and Dallas Tosto of Chapin; sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey O'Neil Lucas Jr. and Judith Lucas of Columbia and Bobby James and Linda Lucas of Maggie Valley, N.C.; sister, Virginia Williamson of Cayce; brothers, Bobby P. Lucas of Cayce and Thomas Lucas of Newbern, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Harvey O'Neil Lucas III, Monica Costello, Catherine Nicole Hicks, David Hicks, Ansley Elizabeth Lucas, Shannon Kathleen Morgan, Christopher Troy Morgan; one great-grandchild, Cassidy Mitchell Hicks; and his longtime companion dog "Willie."
Jackson Nye
MULLINS - Mr. Jackson Lenneau Nye, 77, died Saturday, January 17, 2004, at his residence after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2004, at Macedonia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bruce Sayre and Rev. Glenn Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Cedardale Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Mr. Nye was born December 3, 1926, in Greensboro, N.C., a son of the late George Lenneau Nye and the late Eileen Stewart Nye. He was a graduate of Wake Forest College, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Nye served the community as a pharmacist for 50 years, as owner of Nye Drug Store and co-owner of Nye-Palace Pharmacy. He was also a pharmacist for the Mullins Hospital, Marion Hospital and Marion County Medical Center. Mr. Nye was a life member of the South Carolina Pharmacy Association and active in the Pee Dee Pharmaceutical Association.
Mr. Nye had served on the Board of Directors for Davis National Bank and First National South Bank. He had also served as a Board member of Pee Dee Academy. He was past President and member of the Mullins Cotillione Club.
Mr. Nye was a member of the Sar, Founders and Patriots of America, First Families of Massachusetts and Old Plymouth Colony Descendants.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II and was a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Nye was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Hut Class and had served as a Trustee and on the Administrative Board.
Mr. Nye is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ann Tweedie Nye of the home; a daughter, Jacquelyn Nye Paterno and a son-in-law, Charles F. Paterno of Chapel Hill, N.C.; four grandsons, Charles Nye Paterno, Lide Evans Paterno, Jackson McDonald Paterno and Reade Warner Paterno; a sister, Mary Stuart Townsend of Charlotte.

Robert Qualls Jr.
Columbia - Services for Robert Qualls Jr., 84, are 11 a.m. Monday at Greenhill Baptist Church, Elgin, where he was a member, with burial in Fort Clark Baptist Church Cemetery. James Quinton Sr.
WEST COLUMBIA - Services for James D. Quinton Sr., 76, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2004, at Crossroads World Outreach Center with interment to follow in Lexington Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Quinton will be at the church one hour prior to the service for viewing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2004, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Mr. Quinton died Friday, January 16, 2004, following a lingering illness. Born January 22, 1927, in Chester, he was a son of the late Jesse James Quinton and Ethel Bledsoe Quinton Harmon. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Quinton had retired as a truck driver from Central Division, Inc. He loved scouting and served as Scout Leader for many years. He was a member of Crossroads World Outreach Center where he taught Sunday school and served as an Elder Emeritus. He was very active in the Transport for Christ ministries where he served as a chaplain for several years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sara Courtney Quinton; children, Judi and Bill Rose of Columbia, Susan and Ron Howell of Lexington, Joye and Doug Salisbury of Lavernge, Tenn., Danny and Alacia Quinton of Lexington; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters, Margaret Carter of Winnsboro and Jackie Sox of West Columbia. He is also survived by his canine companion "Little Bit". The family would also like to acknowledge his dedicated friend and sister in Christ, Wilma Elkins.
His witness to his family, friends and all who knew him was an act of true Christian love. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Pearl Rickenbaker
ST. GEORGE - Mrs. Pearl H. Rickenbaker, 88 of 606 West Raysor Street, St. George, died Saturday January 17, 2004, in Trident Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. David Mullins and the Rev. Chris Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hughey Reeves, Raymond Knight, Lanier Walling, Joey Tomlinson, Kenneth Heckle, James Infinger, Donald Baker, and Teddy Wimberly.
Mrs. Rickenbaker was born March 1, 1915, in St. Matthews, Calhoun County a daughter of the late Felder W. and Sellie Wise Heckle. She was pre-deceased by her husband George Allen "Jack" Rickenbaker, two brothers and four sisters. She was educated in St. Matthews's public schools and was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was the seamstress for The Village Shop.
Surviving are her son L. Dexter Rickenbaker and his wife, Brenda Knight Rickenbaker, of St. George, daughters, Carla Rickenbaker and her husband, Stuart Hutton, of Isle of Palms, Tara Rickenbaker Canaday and her husband, Bradley Canaday, of St. George,; great-grandsons, George Alexander "Alex" Canaday and Trevor Rickenbaker Canaday.

William Seegars
SARASOTA, Fla. - William Woodrow Seegars, 60, retired director of Foreign Disclosure and Technology Transfer, Department of the Navy, died January 16, 2004, at his home in Sarasota.
Mr. Seegars was born in Hartsville, S.C. He received a bachelor's degree in Engineering from the University of South Carolina and a master's degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.
In 1967, he came to Washington , D.C., and began his career with the Department of the Navy. After 31 years of service, he retired in 1998. He then worked four years for JIL Information System in Washington , D.C.
He and his wife retired to Sarasota in 2003.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Carol Seegars of Sarasota; his son, Paul Seegars, of Fairfax, Va., and his mother, Edith Seegars, of Columbia, S.C.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Virginia.

Ernest Sizemore
GREENVILLE - Ernest Belton "Sleepy" Sizemore died January 15, 2004, following a long illness. He was the son of the late Thomas Belton and Hattie Mariah Capps Sizemore. His wife of 55 years, Sara Langford Sizemore, died in 1997.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and served in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. He had retired from Budweiser of Greenville in 1981.
Surviving are his three children, Jane Sizemore Tutterow and her husband, Ted, of Keller, Texas ; Jimmy Ernest Sizemore and his wife, Deanna, of Greer; and Sally Felecia Sizemore of Greenville. His four grandchildren are Phyllis Tutterow of Lawrenceville, Ga., Allison Tutterow Stevenson and her husband, Rob, of Fayetteville, Ga.; and Hunter Elizabeth and Jordan Todd Sizemore of Greer. His three great-grandchildren are Seth Michael, Sean Daniel, and Zachary Ryan Stevenson of Fayetteville, Ga.. He was pre-deceased by grandchildren, Ashley Paige and Jimmy Austin Sizemore and his brothers, Grady, Ralph, Harold, and Toy Sizemore.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2004, at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2619 Augusta Street, Greenville. The Rev. Robert I. Miles Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from noon-12:45 p.m. Monday prior to the service.

Ernestine Stewart
COLUMBIA - A service of celebration for Mrs. Ernestine Jordan Stewart, 102, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Second Calvary Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2003 at First Missionary Baptist Church, Kinston, North Carolina, with burial in Oak Hill Memorial Gardens. Leevy's Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge.
Ms. Stewart entered eternal life on Friday, January 16, 2004. Born in Charlotte, she was a daughter of the late Hood and Mamie Jordan. She was a school teacher and was the first black appointed Supervisor of Elementary Schools in Kinston, North Carolina.
Surviving are four children, Ernestine Rogers, Charles B. Stewart Jr. Carolyn Mallette and Reginald Stewart Sr.; sister, Lucille Gregg, brother, Tony Jordan, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Richard Troublefield
CAMDEN - Richard Dale Troublefield, 60, died Friday, January 16, 2004, in Kershaw County Medical Center.
Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Carlisle S. Troublefield and the late Llewelyn Broadway Troublefield.
Richard served numerous public and private organizations wherever he could advocate for a better life for people with disabilities, including Whitten Center Human Rights Committee. He was a spokesman for Florence County Disabilities and Special Needs Foundation, a board member of the Kershaw County Disabilities and Special Needs, the founder and president of Our Voices Count Too, a self-advocacy organization in Florence County. He was vice chairman of the Protection and Advocacy for People with Developmental Disabilities. He was a member of the S.C. Independent Living Council and Community Based Services Task Force on the U.S. Supreme Court Olmstead decision. He was a member of the Sunday School and the Chancel Choir of Lake City United Methodist Church. He pioneered the Self-Advocacy movement in South Carolina. He was a graduate of Partners in Policy Making of South Carolina. He was an alumnus of the Institute on Self-Determination for People with Disabilities, University of Toronto, Canada. He was a consultant to the S.C. Developmental Disabilities Council project, Empowerment: Employment Choices and Self-Advocacy and the S.C. Department of Disabilities and Special Needs Person Centered Planning: Circles of Support. He maintained a regular schedule of public speaking to encourage civic organization and people with disabilities in fundraising and self-advocacy. He was a friend to many people and enjoyed travels for visits across South Carolina, to other states and countries.
Survivors include five sisters, Helen Bailey of Camden, Julia Miles of Sumter, Betty Rae Doggett of Victorville, Calif., Corinee T. Avin of Sumter, and Shirley Dickerson of Louisiana; nieces and nephews, Barbara Riggan and her husband, Eddie, Sandra Ives, and Dick Bailey, all of Camden, and Michael Bailey of Charlotte; and a number of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with Dr. Ray Wade officiating. Burial will be in the Ashwood Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Paul Gober, Dick Bailey, Rick Bailey, Glenn Bledsoe, Chick Foster, and Joe Perrotta.

Martha Green
CLINTON — Martha Anne Green, 57, died Wednesday afternoon, June 16, 2004 at her home in Clinton.
Martha Anne was born in Whitmire, graduated from Presbyterian College and received her Masters from Clemson University. She devoted most of her working career to her much loved alma mater where she served as a counselor at the Presbyterian Career and Personal Counseling Center, Associate Dean of Students, and then Director of Career Planning and Placement. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton where she was a church school teacher, youth advisor and elder. In 1999, she was honored by both college and church as she became the first recipient of the Martha Anne Green Service to Church and College Award.
Surviving Martha Anne are: her husband, Charles Randall Green; son, Charles Randall Green, Jr. and wife, Karen of Fountain Inn; son, Richards Haskell Green and wife, Hope of Lexington; granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Green of Fountain Inn; mother, Dorothy Dillard DuBose of Clinton; sister, Stephanie DuBose Williams and husband, Daryl of Columbia; sister, Dottie DuBose-Blum and husband, George of Raleigh; aunts, Martha Anna Lowe of Rock Hill, Sylvia Tollison of Belton and Mabel Dillard of Whitmire; 12 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Stephen Richards DuBose.
“Dean Green” will be remembered by former students as full of energy, caring and always there when needed; by her friends as a giving, vivacious person who always had a smile on her face; and by her family as a loving, truly outstanding person who will be sorely missed.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Pinelawn Memorial Gardens in Clinton. Visitation will follow at First Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church.

Wanda Cooler
BAMBERG — Mrs. Wanda Nell Holland Cooler, 69 years of age, of 1314 Goose Bay Rd. died June 16, 2004 at the Bamberg County Hospital. Mrs. Cooler was born in Snyder TX a daughter of the late Fred Warren Holland, and Myrtle Juanita Rackackas Holland. She was the widow of the late Brantley C. Cooler, and she was a member of the Branchville Christian Church.
Predeceased by a brother, Don Holland, sister, Charlotte Prey, and grandson, Matthew Levi Hoffman. She is survived by one son, Brian and Beth Cooler, two daughters, Michelle and Karl Horn, and Melodie and Keith Hoffman, six adored grandchildren, Karel, Andrew, Brandon, Blake, Melanie, and Jadie, the Morris, her loving extended family, her beloved sister-in-law, Carrie Cooler Carroll, two brothers, Glenn Holland and wife Shirley, and Jack Holland and wife Vivian, two sisters, Sue McElyea and husband Calvin, and Dorothy Washington . Special thanks to Dr. Glen, Dr. Moustafa, nurses and nurses’ aides at the Bamberg County Hospital for all their care and concern.
