MARIETTA — Memorial services for Mrs. Shirley Pittman, 57, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Howze Mortuary, Travelers Rest. Born in Greenville Co. to Jess and Elda Miller Shook, she died June 17, 2004. She was a member of Cleveland Baptist Church. Surviving are mother; son, Jamie Pittman; grandchildren, Hannah, Kaitlyn Pittman, Matilyn Moss; uncle, Forman Miller; aunt, Agatha Schafer.

W.W. Watson

WEST COLUMBIA — Services for Woodrow Wilson “W.W.” Watson, 86, of West Columbia, will be held at 11am Saturday, June 19, 2004, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Rev. Dewey Cockrell. Burial and military rites will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Glenn Davis, Eric Davis, Neil Davis, Brian Watson, Matthew Watson, and Richard Hicks. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Tanglewood Nursing Home, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Mr. Watson died Tuesday, June 15, 2004. Born in Saluda, he was the son of the late Abner and Mandy Rogers Watson. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. Formerly of Batesburg-Leesville, Mr. Watson had been an area resident since 1955. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Gaston and was retired from N.W. White Company.

Surviving are his wife, Polly Robinson Watson of West Columbia; daughters and son-in-law, Cristine Watson Davis of Columbia, Eloise Watson and Ray Chavis of Lexington; son and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Joyce Wallace Watson of West Columbia, and Joy E. Gunter Watson of West Columbia. In addition to five grandsons who will serve as pallbearers, Mr. Watson is survived by granddaughters, Angela Chavis Hicks and her husband, Richard, Janet Watson Altman and her husband, Howard, and Michelle Watson; grandsons’ wives, Doreen K. Davis, Kendra J. Davis, and Christine T. Watson; and six great grandchildren. Mr. Watson was predeceased by his son, Clarence Watson; sister, Cassie Mae Fields; and brother, Cleveland Watson.

Brother Eugene Patenaude

ROCK HILL — Services for Brother Eugene Patenaude, 82, will be noon Saturday at The Oratory; burial in Laurelwood Cemetery; visitation 7-8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home, Northwest. Born in Norton, Mass., to Nelson and Cecilia Guillette Patenaude, he died June 15, 2004. He served as a Brother at the Oratory and Prefect of Grounds and Monitor of Prayer. Surviving are brothers, Raymond, Edward.

Karene Burkett

CAYCE — Graveside services for Karene Black Burkett, 88, widow of Marvin Burkett, are 11 a.m. today in Celestial Memorial Gardens. Thompson Funeral Home, West Columbia, is in charge. Born in Batesburg, to Lester and Minna Lewis Black, she died June 16, 2004. Mrs. Burkett was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Surviving are her grandson,Tony Lane; greatgrandson, Rion Lane.

Kevin Trapp

COLUMBIA — Services for Kevin D. Trapp will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home with burial in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Born in Winnsboro to Pauline Trapp, he died June 15, 2004. Growing up, he attended Richland County Public Schools and Second Nazareth Baptist Church. Surviving are aunt, Kay Lewis; other loving relatives and friends.

Charles Hartman

PROSPERITY — Services for Charles H. Hartman, 88, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Bus Fund or the fund of one’s choice, PO Box 188, Prosperity, SC 29127.

Mr. Hartman died June 18, 2004. Born in Prosperity, he was a son of the late James Berry and Mattie Counts Hartman. He was a former employee of Prosperity Lumber Company, the owner of Hartman Antiques and a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Surviving is his wife, Faye E. Hartman; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sue Hartman of Prosperity; daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Jimmy Davis of Little Mountain; brother, Leslie Hartman of Whitmire; grandchildren, Lisa and Joel Yarborough and Barry and Wanda Hartman; great-grandchildren, Leah Michelle Yarborough and Meghan Lindsay Hartman. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ellen Lee Hartman.

General Robinson

SOCIETY HILL — Services for General “Old Man” Robinson, farmer, 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Rona Baptist Church; burial in church Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Darlington. Born in Darlington Co. to Finnie and Alice McCoy Robinson, he died June 15, 2004. Surviving: companion, Carrie Brown; children, Harold, Catherine, Viola Walker, Evelyn Gee, Geraldine Bacote; siblings; grandchildren; others.

Bernice Walker

BAMBERG — Services for Bernice R. Walker, 73, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Sweet Rest Baptist Church, where she was a member, with burial in church cemetery. Carroll Mortuary is in charge. Born in Olar to John and Annie Lee Robinson, she died June 13, 2004. Surviving are husband, Warner Walker; children, Valerie Broxton, Deon Willis; brother, James Kimpson; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Billy Perry

CAMDEN — Graveside services for Herman M. “Billy” Perry, 66, of Camden will be held Sunday, June 20, 2004 at 2 p.m. in Hillcrest Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Jackson will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 19, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, P.O. Box 85, Elgin, SC 29045 or Hospice of Kershaw County, 2001 W. DeKalb St., Camden, SC 29020.

Mr. Perry died Thursday, June 17, 2004. Born in Blaney, SC, he was the son of the late Sumter B. and Nellie Cook Perry. He was a retired construction worker.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy Cauthen Perry; son, William Perry and his wife, Brenda, of Camden; daughters, Cheryl Eubanks and her husband, Timmy, of Camden and Donna Jacobs and her husband, Jack, of Elgin; grandchildren, William “Lil Billy” and Abigale Perry, T.J., Travis and Bayleigh Eubanks, Perry and Rhett Jacobs. He was predeceased by sisters, Naomi Perry, Elizabeth Stroud and a brother, Donald Perry.

Mary Hall

BLENHEIM — Services for Mrs. Mary Dudley Hall, 66, will be held at 3 pm Monday in Dudley-Drake Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Brownsville Baptist Church, c/o Tommy Carabo, 5410 Gray Road, Blenheim, SC 29516. Visitation is at the residence, 335 Dunbar Highway. Whitner-Evans Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Hall died Friday. Born in Marlboro County, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Lillian Clark Dudley. She was formerly employed with the F.B.I., Sears, and Tuomey Hospital. She was a member of Brownsville Baptist Church.

Surviving are: her husband, Frank Hall, of Blenheim, brothers, Robert Dudley, of Lancaster, and Jennings Dudley, of Blenheim, and a sister, Thelma Hinson, of Whiteville, NC.

Marvin Rucker

NEWBERRY — Services for Marvin Junius Rucker, 90, will be at Central United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM Sunday with burial in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:00 until 8:00PM Saturday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, PO Box 67, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mid-State S. C. Chapter. PO Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202-7044.

Mr. Rucker died June 18, 2004. Born in Calhoun County, he was a son of the late Bogan Hayne and Blanche Furtick Rucker. He was retired from Choice Quality and Spartan Grain. Mr. Rucker was a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 1 and 65 for many years, a member of the Newberry Rotary Club with over fifty years of perfect attendance, Paul Harris Fellow and a member of Central United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling for over 30 years and was a member of WBCCI Airstream Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Martha D. Rucker; a son, the Honorable John M (Harriett) Rucker; stepdaughters, Elizabeth Dixon (Fred) Fulmer and Angela Dixon (Tom) Bardin; brother, the Rev. D. H. (Bernice) Rucker; grandsons, John Brandt (Allyson) Rucker and Wylie Marvin (Stacia) Rucker; step-grandchildren, Jacob (Natalie) Fulmer, Angela Fulmer, Clayton Fulmer Jill Bardin and Tripp Bardin; a great-grandson, Whitman Marvin Rucker. Mr. Rucker was predeceased by his first wife, Sarah Bouknight Rucker, brothers, Donal B. Rucker and W. Laverne Rucker; a sister, Dorothy Rucker Holcombe.

Oleta Winburn

HARTSVILLE — Graveside services for Oleta Funderburk Winburn, 94, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004 in Magnolia Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Richard Bailey, the Rev. Dr. Bob Cline, and the Rev. Buddy Amerson will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 19, 2004 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 104 East Home Ave., Hartsville SC 29550.

Mrs. Winburn, widow of Jesse C. Winburn, died Friday, June 18, 2004. Born in Pageland, SC, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Sloan Jones Funderburk. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for sixty years. She taught school for forty years at Green Hill, Ousleydale, St. David's and Hartsville Junior High School.

Surviving are her sons and daughter-in-law, H. J. Winburn, Arlon Mac and Diane Winburn, and Harold Winburn, all of Hartsville, SC; sister, Azilee Byrd of Pageland, SC; brothers, Harold Funderburk of Pageland, SC, Hampton Funderburk of Monroe, NC; grandchildren, Hubert Winburn, Doug Winburn, Hal Winburn; great-grandchildren, Andrew Winburn, Hunter Wade Winburn, Jake Steen.

Richard Fripp

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — A native of Beaufort, SC, Richard passed away in Walnut Creek at the age of 84. He was born February 11, 1920 and died June 16, 2004. Richard served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and Korea. He worked as a manager and instrument technician and retired in 1996. Richard was associated with the Episcopalian church and enjoyed photography. He is survived by daughters Gayle Evens of Spring, TX and Becky Davis of Purbis, MS; son Richard D. Fripp II of Cromberg, CA; 9 grandchildren and 10 and a half great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar Walter Fripp Jr. and Mary Dougan; grandparents, Edgar Walter Fripp and Martha Jenkins; and brothers Edgar Walter Fripp and Harold M. Fripp. He was also predeceased by Virginia Anderson Fripp, his wife of 57 years, in 2002. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 26, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Cromberg Cemetery, Cromberg, CA.

Thomas Sims

PROSPERITY — Services with burial for Thomas Sims are 1 p.m. Sunday at Lever Chapel AME Church. F.B. Pratt & Son Funeral Home, Newberry, is in charge. He was born in Newberry Co. to Roosevelt and Mary Owens Sims. Surviving: children, Lillie Watts, Earline Mendenhall, Deborah Simms, Patricia Simms, Thomas, Gregory, James, Howard Sims; sister, Catherine Wells; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.

Amy Culbreath

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Services with burial for Amy Mitchell Culbreath, 79, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Butler & Sons Funeral Home, Saluda, S.C., is in charge. Born in Saluda Co. to Walter and Lottie Butler Mitchell, she died June 8, 2004. She was a member of Saint Luke’s Church and retired Civil Service worker. Surviving: siblings, Mellie Cooper, Raymond, Walter Jr., Joe Mitchell.

Thomas Blackwood Sr.

JONESVILLE — Services for Thomas Eugene Blackwood Sr., 74, 3 p.m. (viewing 2 p.m.) Sunday at Gilead Baptist Church with Masonic rites burial. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Holcombe Funeral Home, Union. Born in Cherokee Co. to George and Mamie Blackwood, he died June 17, 2004. Surviving: wife, Betty Blackwood; children, Jean Brewington, Kaye Mack, Bobbi Siefert, Thomas Jr.; 4 grandchildren; 1 brother.

Annie Dutton

COLUMBIA — Service for Annie Goff Dutton, 96, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Reformation Lutheran Church with burial in Elmwood Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. in the church parlor prior to the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel, is in charge. Memorials may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church, 1118 Union St., Columbia, S.C. 29201.

Mrs. Dutton, wife of the late Banks A. Dutton, Sr., died Thursday, June 17, 2004. Born in Richland County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Franklin Goff and Julia Ann Thomas Strange Goff. She was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church, Banks Dove Council #34, Daughters of America for over fifty years, Eloise Shealy Bible Class, Reformation Senior Citizens Group and Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

Surviving are her children: Louise Dunker and her husband, Harry, of Columbia; Betty Harmon and her husband, Charles, of Lexington; Banks A. Dutton, Jr. and his wife, Evelyn, of Irmo; James “Jimmy” Dutton and his wife, Jane, of Columbia; Roy Dutton and his wife, Mary, of Gaston; and Jeanette Pope and her husband, Tom, of Yorktown, Va.; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and nephew and “special son”, Dr. Frank Jones and his wife, Elise, of Columbia.

Clara Young

ALLENDALE — Services for Clara Elliott Summer Young, 76, will be held at 11:00 AM on June 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Interment will follow at Swallow Savannah Cemetery in Allendale. The family will receive visitors at Smith-Rhoden funeral home in Allendale on 6-8 PM, June 20. Pallbearers are Webb Boleman, Dick Mixon, Billy Mixson, Frank Young, Sandy Gibson, and Tommy Harter.

Mrs. Young, wife of the late William Thomas (Billy) Young, died Friday, June 18, 2004. Born on August 18, 1927 in Newberry, she was the daughter of the late Charles Forrest and Mittie Barksdale Young Summer. Mrs. Young was a graduate of Newberry College and a former school teacher. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had retired as co-owner of Billy’s IGA in Allendale.

Mrs. Young is survived by sons William T. Young, Jr. (Bill) and wife Janice of Walterboro, Charles Conrad Young (Charlie) and wife Vickie of Fairfax, and daughter Mittie Young Calvert (Mitzi) and husband Craig of Columbia, and grandchildren Margaret Keithley, Bill Young III, Conrad, Carly, and Clay Young, Emily and Elliott Calvert, Dodd and Meggie Hulsey.

Mrs. Young was predeceased by a grandson, Ryan Brabham Young, sister Nancy Pierce and brothers Ferd and Thomas Summer.

Henry Sites

IRMO — Services for Henry Thomas Sites, 51, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, 2004 at St. Jacobs Lutheran Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan Jennings, Richard Young, Wayne Shealy, Stanley Slice, Mike Bull, Pepper Ellisor, Ricky Lindler, and Travis Crumpton. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Tri-County Hospice.

Mr. Sites died Friday, June 18, 2004. Born in Lexington, he was the son of Letha Wessinger Sites and the late James Herbert Sites.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Wallace Sites; daughter, Kaycee Sites; son, Travis Sites all of Irmo; sisters, Marlene Gray and husband Allen of Irmo and Virginia Laughlin and husband Jamey of Lynchburg, VA; nephews, Justin, Eric, Philip and Herb and his wife Sherry; great nephews, James and Jonathan Gray.

Hazel Reid

LAURENS — Services for Ms. Hazel Ruth Boyd Reid, 49, daughter of Johnny Wilson Jr. and Mattie Boyd McGowen, 2 p.m. Sunday at Goins Funeral Home; burial in White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, Mountville. She died June 17, 2004. Surviving are children, LaFrance, Jamie Reid, Lewis, Catherine Fielder; siblings, Leroy, Johnny Boyd, Clemmie Harris, Shirley Rice, Helen Williams; grandchildren.
