GREENWOOD — Services for Darwin Lewis Franke, 80, WWII veteran, Mason, 3 p.m. Sunday at Tranquil UMC; burial in church cemetery; visitation 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home. Born in Coudersport, Pa., to Lewis and Mary Hall Franke, he died June 18, 2004. Surviving are wife, June Havens Franke; children, Lewis, Chaplain Bonnie Franke, Susan Prenatt, Melba Leach, Cynthia Dominick; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Zela Boozer

LEXINGTON — Services for Zela Caughman Boozer, 92, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at St. David Lutheran Church in West Columbia, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Caughman Harman Funeral Home, Lexington, from 6-8 pm on Monday or at other times at her home. Memorials may be made to St. David Lutheran Church, 132 St. David Church Road, West Columbia, SC 29170 or St. James Lutheran Church, 1358 South Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072.

Mrs. Boozer, widow of John G. Boozer, Jr., died Friday, June 19 at her home. Born February 28, 1912, in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Willie Morgan Caughman and Mary Catherine Sox Caughman. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1933. She was an educator in Lexington School District One for 41 years.

She is survived by a son, Thomas C. (Glenda) Boozer, one granddaughter, Brenda B. (Hugh) Nichols, three grandsons, Benjamin C. (Elizabeth) Boozer, Ian S. Boozer, Curt C. (Juanita) Boozer, and eight great-grandchildren, all of Lexington; One sister, Sue C. Shull of West Columbia; three brothers, Elford (Janie Lee) Caughman, Hampton (Betty) Caughman, and Raymond (Lib) Caughman, all of Lexington; many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Boozer was predeceased by a son, John Morgan Boozer, and a grandson, Barry Morgan Boozer. Also, three sisters, Evelyn C. Segelken, Virginia C. Shull, Henrietta C. Frye, and two brothers, Kenneth Caughman and Henry M. Caughman.

Minnie Clements

COLUMBIA — Memorial services for Minnie Emma Jackson Clements, 87, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Lee Seltzer officiating. Committal of Mrs. Clements will be held privately by the family. The family will receive friends at Greenlawn Funeral Home 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., Tuesday. Greenlawn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Clements, widow of Walter Clements, died Friday, June 18, 2004 in Palmetto Richland Hospital, Columbia. Born on February 18, 1917 in Bloomington, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lafayette and the late Patricia Martelia Johnson Jackson.

We each have special memories of Mrs. Clements that we hold dear in our hearts. Bob and Irene enjoyed taking her to Florida for the winter. Little John will remember keeping Grandmama’s feet warm at night and Madison and Catherine looked forward to helping her make salt dough Christmas ornaments each year. We will all miss the love that was steeped into her delicious lemon meringues pies. Summertime will seem a little less sweet without her homemade strawberry and peach jams. She was loved by everyone she touched.

Surviving Mrs. Clements are her two sons, Walter Clements and Stephen Clements and his wife, Denise, of Columbia; a daughter-in-law, Carmel Clements of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Christine Reid of Savannah, GA, Joseph and John Clements of Charlotte and Madison Catherine of Columbia and sisters, Sally Flatt of Tennessee, Barbara Vipperman of Michigan and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Oscar, Tom, Jube, and Mac and three sisters, Kibbie, Rhoda and Lena.

Gracie Kinard

WHITMIRE — Gracie Ann Kinard, 47, of 1116 Sinclair Ave, Whitmire, died June 19, 2004 in a car accident in Columbia.

Miss Kinard was born on February 13, 1957 in Union, a daughter of Maude Louise Caughman Kinard and the late Thomas E. Kinard. She was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Whitmire.

Miss Kinard is survived by her mother, Maude Louise Caughman Kinard of the home; sister and brother-in-law, Betty K. and Carol Thomas of Whitmire; a nephew, Michael Paul Thomas of Whitmire.

Funeral services for Gracie Ann Kinard will be conducted at 10:30 P.M. Tuesday at St. Timothy Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Weaver and Rev. James Shealy. Interment will be Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church Cemetery at Prosperity.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry and another visitation will be held at St. Timothy Lutheran Church from 9:30 to 10:15 A. M. on Tuesday. The family will be at the residence, 1116 Sinclair Ave. Whitmire.

Memorials may be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church, PO Box 265, Whitmire, SC 29178 or to the Whitmire Fire Department, 1116 Sinclair Ave. Whitmire, SC 29178.

Harley Heatherly Jr.

BUFFALO — Services and burial with full military honors for Harley Dewey Heatherly Jr., 70, are 2 p.m. (viewing at 1 p.m.) Tuesday at West Springs Baptist Church. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at S.R. Holcombe, Union. Born in Buffalo to Harley Sr. and Minnie Heatherly, he died June 19, 2004. Surviving: wife, Euniva Whalley Heatherly; children, Charlene Smith, Steve Heatherly; 7 siblings; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.

Rev. James Davis Sr.

COLUMBIA — Homegoing Service for Reverend James Louis Davis, Jr., 61, of Columbia, will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Independent Baptist Church in Blythewood, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Serenity Gardens. The family will receive friends on this evening from 7-8 at the funeral home.

Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home, Columbia, SC is in charge of the service.

Reverend Davis died on June 17, 2004. Born in Hopkins, he was the son of the late Deacon Jerry Sr., and Annis Canty Davis. He attended Richland County public schools, and continued his education at Eckerd College School of Divinity in St. Petersburg, FL. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served his country for four years. He accepted the call into the ministry, and was ordained as a Elder in the Bible Way Church in Sarasotoa, Fl; and founded and served as Pastor for fifteen years at the Bible Way Church in Palmetto, FL. In 1989, he relocated to Columbia, where he became a member of Zion Canaan Baptist Church, and served as Associate Minister. In 1993, he accepted the call to become the Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Ridgeway, SC, where he served faithfully for seven years. In 2000, Pastor Davis founded Calvary Independent Baptist Church of Blythewood. In 2003, a new edifice was built and together he and his congregation praised God for the worked that was about to begin. He fought a good fight, and finished his course, and he kept the faith. His love for God, his family, and mankind will be a source of strength to his family, church family and friends.

Pastor Davis leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Lorraine Bouknight-Davis, three daughters, Ann Blakney (Ramonte'), Rosalyn Jones, Arlette Waters; one son, James L. Davis, Jr.; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandson; five brothers, Jerry Davis, Jr. (Ruth); Rev. Adam Davis (Lillie); Rev. John L. Davis; Rev. Eddie W. Davis (Shirley) and Minister Richard Davis (Rose); seven sisters, Mary E. Davis, Martha Ruff, Zelah Marie Daniels, Millie Whittleton, Jean Moore (Min. Roscoe); Lillie B. Young; Ruth Jones; his stepmother, Rev. Elva Davis; his Father-in-law, Mr. Dan Bouknight; the Calvary Independent Baptist Church family; and a host of others who will miss him dearly.

Roy Sexton

LUGOFF — Funeral services for Mr. Roy Olin Sexton, 73, of Lugoff, will be held 11 o’clock, Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at Friendship Baptist Church, Lugoff, conducted by Rev. Matt Galloway and Rev. Steve Baughman. Active pallbearers will be Garrett Owens, Gerald Owens, Joseph Hiltner, James Hiltner, Terrance Hightower, Randall Lamb, Zachary Hightower. Honorary pallbearers are Ed Kelly, Blease Kelly, Phillip Hutto, Lonnie Watford, Calvin Still, Larry Goff, Billy Smith, Sr., Ferrell King. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock Monday evening at Shives Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church or Palmetto Health Hospice, P.O. Box 7275, Columbia, SC 29202.

Mr. Sexton died Sunday, June 20, 2004. Born in Spartanburg, SC, he was a son of the late William H. and Mary Bennett Sexton. He was the widower of Esther Lovett Sexton. He graduated from Duncan Elementary and Reidville High School in Spartanburg County. Mr. Sexton entered the U.S. Air Force after High School where he was with the Strategic Air Command for 4 years, serving 2 tours of duty in Korea. He also served in Vietnam for 2 years in a civilian capacity. He worked in the Finger Print Div. of the FBI in Washington , DC. Mr. Sexton formerly worked for Landair Corp. in aircraft maintenance. He later spent over 20 years with McEntire Air National Guard Base. He was a former member of Spears Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Treasurer. He was presently a member of Friendship Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his daughter, Judith (Hugh) Jennings; granddaughters, Denise (Gerald ) Owens, Danielle (James) Hiltner, all of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Andrew, Tyler Owens, Joseph, Jacob, Deidre Denise Hiltner; brothers, William, Johnny, Samuel Sexton; sister, Dilia Lamb. He was predeceased by his brothers, Cooley & David Sexton; granddaughter, Deidre Jennings.

Mary Wise

RICHMOND, Va. — Mary Delores Wise, 68, of Richmond, Va., passed away on June 19, 2004 after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Mr. Edward Eugene Dority and Mrs. Annie Bell Cole Dority of Columbia, S.C. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Allen Wise.

She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Wise Williams and her husband, Keith; her son, Randy Wise and his wife, Pam; two sisters, Dale and Donna Dority of Columbia, S.C.; one brother-in-law, William D. Wise and his wife, Bonnie of Lake City, S.C.; four grandchildren, Bryan Shull and his wife, Jennifer, Sean Bair, Jason and Jesse Wise; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Evans and Skyler Bair; and two special friends, Cathy Humphries and Felicia Payne of Columbia, S.C.

Mrs. Wise had retired from Overnite Transportation.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Bliley Funeral Homes’ Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Carrie Anderson

NORWAY — Services and burial for Carrie Mae Anderson, 82, are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member. Visitation is 3-8 tonight at Jackson's Memorial Chapel, Neeses. Born in Norway to Paul Priester and Edna Mytis Fields, she died June 17, 2004. Surviving: daughters, Johnnie Mae, Edna Anderson; brother, Gentle Priester; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; cousin, Maybell Hart.

Malac Hall

GREENVILLE — Services and burial for Malac Everline Hall are 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church. F.B. Pratt & Son Funeral Home, Newberry, is in charge. Born in Newberry Co. to Obie Hare and Dorothy Cheek, she died June 17, 2004. Surviving: husband, Carroll Hall; daughters, Dorothy, Tameka Cheek; stepdaughter, Charlotte Wicker; five grandchildren; six sisters; two brothers; aunts; uncles; others.

Kevin Myers

BRANCHVILLE — Kevin James Myers, 32, died Saturday, June 19, 2004.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, Orangeburg, with burial in Ehrhardt Cemetery, Ehrhardt.

Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home, Orangeburg.

Pharis Parsons

SALEM — Services for Pharis Frederick “Freddie” Parsons are 2 p.m. (visitation noon-2) today at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Born in Augusta, Ga. to Harold and Sibyl Parsons, he died June 18, 2004. He was a member of Clearwater First Baptist Church. Surviving: daughter, Jennifer Maddox; grandchild, Kelli Maddox; niece, Michelle Moore; great-nephew, Hobie Moore.

Kristopher Rucker

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Kristopher David Rucker of Wilmington died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at his home.

He was born June 18, 1979, in Columbia, S.C. and is the son of Shelia and Randy McIntyre of Wilmington and the late David Rucker.

Kris was a devoted father and brother. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, an avid surfer and lover of music and was employed with A-1 Tree Service.

Surviving in addition to his mother and father are his son, Bob Swinson-Rucker of Wilmington; sister, Kimberly McIntyre and brother, Kendall McIntyre, both of Wilmington; grandmothers, Nermae Whitaker of Wilmington and Frances Copeland of Columbia; stepmother, Linda Joy-Rucker of Columbia; girlfriend, Tammy Dozier of Wilmington and beloved dog, Marley.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel by the Rev. Bill Spencer. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Matt Lewis, Josh Allen, John Swartz, Jared Lee, Steve Hunt, Mike Labriola, Rick Pusby and R.B. Hunt.

Memorials may be made to New Hanover County Humane Society, 2405 North 23rd St. Wilmington, NC 28401.

LEXINGTON — Services for William Eugene Zander will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday (visitation 7-8 tonight) at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home, Columbia. Born in Alabama to Robert and Percy Hamilton Zander, he died June 18, 2004. Surviving are wife, Carolyn B. Zander; children, Darryl, Dondi, William, Robert, Tennyson, Carolyn Zander; siblings, Robert Zander, Catherine Dudley; grandchildren.
