Born to Jeff and Emily Williams, he died June 18, 2004. Surviving: children, Evanell Creech, Leon, Larry, Bobby and Billy Williams; siblings, Inez Hayward, Maggie Hammonds, Lewis, George Williams; 15 grandchildren; more.

Lee Shiggs

SCOTIA — Services for Lee A. Shiggs, 58, are 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mark AME Church; burial in Paul Hill Cemetery, both in Shirley. Bostick Funeral Home, Ridgeland, is in charge. Born in Scotia to John and Daisy Bell Green Shiggs, he died June 19, 2004. Surviving: wife, Shelia B. Shiggs; children, Earnest, David, Alvin, Tyrell, Leatha Shiggs, Verdell Scott, Shadeqie Black; 4 brothers; 4 sisters; 7 grandchildren.

Elouise Murchison

NORTH — Services with burial for Elouise Murchison, 86, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Church of God By Faith. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at W.B. Crumel Funeral Home. Born to Jim and Luvenia Harley Murchison, she died June 18, 2004. Surviving: daughter, Janie Murchison; six grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a host of great-great-grandchildren.

Joely Moore

WINNSBORO — A graveside service for Joely Teresa Moore, infant daughter of Joseph III and Teresa Moore, will be held at 11 a.m. today in Elmwood Cemetery, Fort Lawn. Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, Great Falls, is in charge. Born in Rock Hill, Joely died June 21, 2004. Surviving: parents; sisters, Baylee Gregory, Hailey and Carleigh Moore; grandparents, Jimmy and Teresa Warr, Tom and Ann Moore.

Patience Kelly

CAYCE — Services for Patience Martin Kelly, 93, will be held at 11 am Monday in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, conducted by Reverend Tom McAdory, with entombment at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to First Church of The Nazarene, 901 St. Andrews Rd., Columbia, SC 29210. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 to 10:45 am at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kelly, widow of Eugene Kelly, died Friday, June 25, 2004. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Silas and Rose Ellen Coker Martin. She was a lifelong resident and was a member of First Church of The Nazarene.

Surviving are her sons, Leroy Kelly of Cayce and Heyward Kelly of Gaston; sisters, Viola Amick, Lillie Koon, Louise Amick, and Alice Gann; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Kelly was predeceased by her sons, Charles Eugene Kelly and Jack Richard Kelly.

Derrick Faison

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Services for Derrick Leon Faison, 36, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Second Baptist Church with burial in Litera Memorial Park, Lake Forest, directed by Brown Colonial Mortuary. Green's Funeral Home, Lake City, S.C., is in charge locally. Born in Lake City to Elijah and Jessie Cooper Faison, he died June 27, 2004. Surviving are parents; sister, Torsha Faison.

April Shrader

BISHOPVILLE — Funeral services for April Danielle Shrader, age 23, who died July 4, 2004, will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. from the Chapel at Norton Funeral Home; burial will be in St. Matthews Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

April was born in Kershaw Co., and was a daughter of Joseph Wayne Shrader and Carol Ann McGee Holland. She was a graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School and was employed with Carolina Bank & Trust, Hartsville.

Surviving are her father and stepmother, Joseph Wayne and Carmen Shrader, Lugoff; her mother and stepfather, Carol Ann and David Holland, Bishopville; daughter, Kaitlyn Jacobs, Bishopville; sisters, Brandy Shannon, Bishopville, Angie Melton, Camden; maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Carolyn and Eddie Snell, Elgin; paternal grandmother, Maxine Shrader, Lugoff; stepgrandparents, Bob and Marga Holland, Bishopville, Bennie and Ethel Shipley, Lugoff; nieces, Carson Shannon, McKenzie Shannon, Kendal Melton.

Poinsett Exum

COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Clifford Poinsett Exum, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral with burial in the churchyard. The family will receive friends at the residence, 9 Quinine Hill. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mr. Exum died Saturday, July 17, 2004. Born August 2, 1921 in Bennettsville, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Point Exum of Sumter. He served as a Navy pilot in WW II. He earned a degree in architecture from Clemson College. He began his professional life with LaFaye, Fair, LaFaye Architectural Firm. He later formed the Exum Co. which he ran until his retirement.

Mr. Exum was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where he served on the Vestry, The Trinity Foundation and various committees. He also served as Junior Warden and Senior Warden.

Mr. Exum was a member of Forest Lake Club, The Palmetto Club and the Columbia Ball for which he served as President and Board Member. He also served as a board member of the Columbia Museum of Art and the Salvation Army. He was a member of the Board of Visitors of St. Mary’s Junior College in Raleigh, N.C. He served as President of the Board of Trustees of the South Carolina Episcopal Home at Still Hopes and also several terms on the Board of Directors. He was honored with the title of Emeritus. He was instrumental in building the first buildings of the new retirement home and later in planing for future buildings which expanded the facilities and the levels of care for the residents. His final major project was building the chapel.

Mr. Exum is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Russell Exum; his daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Poinsett Exum “Lisa” Courson and Sen. John Edward Courson, Sarah deSaussure Exum “Sally” Cauthen and James Roy Cauthen and daughter, Mary Boykin Exum; and grandchildren, James Poinsett Courson, Elizabeth Boykin Courson, Harris Russell Courson, William deSaussure Cauthen and Alexander Poinsett Cauthen. He was predeceased by his brother, William Boykin Exum and his sister, Mrs. Mary Exum Crosland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Carolina Episcopal Home at Still Hopes, P.O. Box 2959, West Columbia, S.C. 29171 or to a charity of one’s choice.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Still Hopes for their kind, professional and compassionate care.

Rupert Gaddy III

NEWBERRY — Rupert Rudolph Gaddy, III died at his home Saturday, July 17, 2004 in Newberry, SC.

Mr. Gaddy was born on May 16, 1951 in Greenville, SC. He spent his adult years involved in the field of education. He taught at Wilson High School in Florence, SC and J.V. Martin Jr. High School in Dillon, SC and Coker College in Hartsville, SC prior to joining the faculty of Newberry College as an associate Professor of Theatre and Speech.

He was a graduate of J.L. Mann High School, attended Erskine College, and graduated from Francis Marion College. He received his Master’s Degree in Fine Arts in Theatre from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

Mr. Gaddy was a gifted and talented actor, teacher, designer, and director and imparted his love and respect for the theatre to his students, children, and family members. He was also a member of the historical reenactment group, The Society of Creative Anachronism.

He is survived by his parents, Rupert R. Gaddy, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Cook Gaddy of Fork, SC; two sons, John Rupert Gaddy and James Preston Gaddy of Newberry, SC; two daughters, Sarah Elisabeth Gaddy of Denver, Colorado and Mary Amanda Gaddy of Newberry, SC; one brother Harold Edward Gaddy of Fork, SC; two sisters Mary Elizabeth (Libba) Gaddy Urps of Simpsonville, SC and Patricia Anne Gaddy Buddin of Rock Hill, SC.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 19, 2004 at 4:00 PM in the Chapel at Kannaday’s Funeral Home of Dillon, SC with entombment in Greenlawn Cemetery. Thomas Timmons, Pastor of Fork Presbyterian Church will conduct the services.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to Newberry College, Theatre Department, Newberry, SC, 29108.

Megan Bevan

MAYESVILLE - Megan Anne Bevan, 46, wife of Darryl J. Hatheway, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 in the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, S.C., after an extended illness with cancer.

Born in Charlotte, N.C., she was a daughter of Louise Dabbs Bevan and the late John M. Bevan.

Upon graduating from Swarthmore College in 1980, Megan joined the staff of National Geographic, beginning as a writer-researcher in Educational Media and then in Educational Films. She came to National Geographic Television in 1984 as a senior scriptwriter for the newly launched National Geographic Explorer series and was quickly promoted to Associate Producer for Explorer’s host studio shoots.

Known not only for her personal integrity, but also as an embodiment of the National Geographic institutional ethos, Megan was the logical choice to create, then direct Explorer’s Research Department from 1986 to 1990. In 1991 she took over management of Explorer studio production, a complex job involving studio production between Washington , DC, and New York, directing a crew of directors, script writers, and set designers.

She was promoted to Vice President for all National Geographic broadcast and syndicated series which included numerous series domestically and extensive international distribution in a period of worldwide expansion for National Geographic Television. Megan became an integral part of the programming team that developed the schedule line-up for the launch of the National Geographic Channel, now one of the fastest growing cable channels in the U.S. market.

Besides her husband and mother, Megan is survived by two stepsons, Dylan and Nigel Hatheway and a stepdaughter, Colette Beers; two sisters, Brenda Bevan Remmes and her husband Bill of the Salem Black River Community; and Elizabeth Bevan and her husband Dan Clodfelter of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, John Bevan, Jr. and his wife Kathryn of Great Falls, Va.; and six nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday at Salem Black River Presbyterian Church, Mayesville.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the Bevan home on Brick Church Road, Mayesville.

Memorials may be made to Salem Black River Cemetery Association, in care of Mrs. John Wilson, 81 Nash Street, Sumter, SC 29150, to the Brick Church Building Fund in care of the Treasurer, 26 West Sumter Street, Mayesville, SC 29104 or to the Bevan Scholarship Fund at Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, Fla. 33733.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad Street, Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements.

Arthur Gaddy Sr.

DILLON — Services for Arthur Cecil “A.C.” Gaddy, Sr. will be held 4:00 P.M. Sunday in Dillon Second Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 7-9 P.M. Saturday in Cooper Funeral Home.

Mr. Gaddy, 71, died Thursday, August 5, 2004 at his residence.

Born in Robeson County, NC, September 30, 1932, he was the son of the late Eros and Flonnie Gaddy. He was a member of Dillon Second Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Gideon, and a member of the choir. He served 20 years in the National Guard and owned his own heating and cooling business.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sue & Ronald Stroud of Loris; son and daughter-in-law, Cecil & Mary Sue Gaddy of Dillon; grandchildren, Jessica Carney, Beth Odom, Lisa Cox, and Brenda Stroud; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kylie, Elizabeth, and Trent; brothers, Jimmy, Vick, Charles, Earl, Frank, and Bill.

Mr. Gaddy was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Elizabeth “Lib” Gaddy; grandson, Amos Chad Stroud; and sisters, Mildred and Shirley.

Charles Adams

GREENWOOD — Services for Charles L. “Doc” Adams, 76, ret. owner Doc Adams Used Cars, antique car collector, 3 pm Sunday: Harley Funeral Home (visitation 6-8 tonight); entombment: Greenwood Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum. Born in Edgefield Co. to James and Ida Adams, he died Aug. 6, 2004. Surviving: wife, Anita; children, Linda Byers, Kathy Dodson, Teresa Polattie, Charles, Michael, Barry Adams.

Jerry Burgess

ROCK HILL — Services for Jerry Wayne Burgess, 63, 2 p.m. Sunday at Eastside Baptist Church; burial in Grandview Memorial Park, Cherry Road; visitation 5-7 tonight at Greene Funeral Home, Downtown. Born in Rutherfordton, N.C., to Harold and Veatrice Burgess, he died Aug. 5, 2004. Surviving: wife, Gail Burgess; children, Kathy Hudson, Wayne, Billy, Danny, Dennis Burgess; 3 brothers; 4 sisters; more.

Eva Casey

COLUMBIA — Services for Mrs. Eva Ernestine Roberts Casey, of 8005 Brookmont St., will be held 1:30 pm Sunday at Gill Creek Baptist Church, with burial in Palmetto Cemetery. Palmer Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Mrs. Casey died Wednesday, August 4, 2004. Born in Richland County, she was the daughter of the late Isom and Hattie Outen Roberts. She was a member of Gill Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Bernetha C. Canzater, Betty C. Barr and Gladys Casey; sister, Hattie R. Jacobs; brother, Charles Roberts; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

Ruth Craine

LAURENS — Services for Ruth Mildred Craine, 75, are 4 p.m. Sunday (visitation 7-9 tonight) at Kennedy Mortuary; burial in Warrior Creek Baptist Churchyard. The family is at 1804 Easy Road. Born in Laurens Co. to William Rhodes and Hattie R. Stroud, she died August 5, 2004. Surviving: husband, Jimmy Craine; son, William Craine; brother, Clayton Rhodes; grandchildren, Anna Goforth, Jaime, Megan Craine.
