LEXINGTON — Services for Ermanise D. Franklin, 62, are 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m.-8 p.m. today at Lexington Funeral Home. Born in Lexington to James “Buck” and Mary Davis, she died Aug. 4, 2004. She was employed with Lexington School District #1. Surviving: daughters, Detra Jones, Marcedios Davis, Jemelah Franklin, Jacquelyne Holmes.

Blanche Poston

GEORGETOWN — Blanche J. Poston, 85, widow of Lawton F. Poston, died Friday, August 6, 2004 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 8, 2004 at 3:00 P.M. in Eastside Free Will Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will follow in Hucksfield Cemetery in Upper Georgetown County.

She was born January 18, 1919 in Georgetown County, a daughter of the late James Murray Jacobs and Orie B. Jacobs Jacobs.

Mrs. Poston with her late husband started the present day Poston Seafood and she was a homemaker.

She was a charter member of Eastside Free Will Baptist Church and had been awarded a 40 year perfect attendance pin. She taught the Young Adult Sunday School Class and had formerly taught the Adult Sunday School Class. She was a former board member and program chairman for the Lady’s Auxiliary. She was a former trustee of the church and continued to be a prayer warrior.

Surviving are: five sons, Thomas L. Poston, David L. Poston, Ernie Poston, Steve Poston and Nicky Poston all of Georgetown; three daughters, Ruby J. Moran, Mable Hartley-Lambert and Barbara Lindsey all of Georgetown; one brother, Earl Jacobs of Georgetown; three sisters, Geneva J. Reeves, Kathryn Hardwick and Virginia J. Sessions all of Georgetown; twenty seven grandchildren, forty one great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 7:00 P.M. Saturday at Eastside Freewill Baptist Church, 407 Palm Street, Georgetown.

Albert Jackson

WEST COLUMBIA — Services with burial for Albert Jackson are 2 p.m. Monday at Heyward AME Church, Gaston; viewing 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Pearson's Funeral Home, Columbia. Born in Lexington Co. to Samuel Sr. and Hattie Jackson, he died Aug. 4, 2004. Surviving: wife, Rev. Mary Jackson; children, Albert, Marvin, Michael, Percy Jackson, Henrietta Collins, Tina Williams; 3 brothers; 5 sisters; 18 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

Jenny Stringfield

COTTAGEVILLE — Mrs. Jenny Nell Byrd Stringfield, 97, of Cottageville, died Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at her daughter’s home in San Diego, California.

Graveside funeral services will be held two o’clock Sunday, August 8, 2004 in Live Oak Cemetery, with Reverend George Reeves officiating, directed by The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Homes, Walterboro Chapel.

Mrs. Stringfield was born February 17, 1907 in Wartburg, Tennessee and was a daughter of the late William Merida Byrd and Mary Kreis Byrd. She was the widow of Lee Carl Stringfield. She was a member of Cottageville Baptist Church and was a loving wife and mother and friend to many. She will be missed by all for her generosity and love for others. We will miss the twinkle in her eyes.

Surviving are: her son, Joseph Lee Stringfield and his wife Elsie of Columbia; daughter, Virginia Ann Messervy and her husband Lawrence of San Diego, California; daughter-in-law, Susie Crosby Stringfield of Walterboro; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jesse D. “Jack” Stringfield; brother, William Byrd, Jr.; and sisters, Lenis Bartley and Lilly Byrd.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Cottageville Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall Fund, 11643 Cottageville Hwy, Cottageville, SC 29435.

DARLINGTON — Services for Anthony “Tony” Jay Trott Sr., 47, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday (visitation 6-8 tonight)at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home; burial in Grove Hill Cemetery. Born in Jacksonville, N.C., to Walter and Shirley S. Trott, he died Aug. 6, 2004. Surviving: wife, Sherry Trott; parents; children, Anthony Trott Jr., Heather Sturgeon; brothers, Timothy, Joseph Trott; grandchildren, John Sturgeon, David Edgell Jr.

Richardena Tyson

SEATTLE, Wash. — Services for Richardena White Tyson, formerly of Columbia, S.C., will be held at 4 p.m. today at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home, Columbia, with burial in Palmetto Cemetery. Born in Columbia to Richard and Addie White, she died July 28, 2004. Surviving are husband, Jeffery; children, Daniel, Staci, Ebony; siblings, John, James, Regina, Lauranna, Andrena; one grandchild.

Marjorie Ridgell

GREENVILLE — Marjorie Covington Ridgell, 76, of 205 Delrose Circle, wife of Leon Louis Ridgell, Col. USAR, died Thursday August 05, 2004.

Born in Norfolk, VA she was the daughter of the late William Braxton and Marjorie Hardee Covington.

Mrs. Ridgell was a retired Librarian at Greenville High School. She attended Radford College. Mrs. Ridgell was a member of Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where she served as Church Librarian and was a member of the Moffatt Long Sunday School Class.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Linda R. Ware of Irmo, SC, Elaine R. Smith and her husband Nathaniel of Chapin, SC; two sons, Donald L. Ridgell, DMD and his wife Holly of Greenville, Ralph L. Ridgell and his wife Kelly of Cumming, GA; a sister, Jean C. Mitchell of Charlotte, NC; a brother, William B. Covington, DDS of Plymouth, MI; six grandchildren, Kenneth, Daniel, and Jacob Ridgell, Heather Nesbitt, Marshall Smith, and Audrey Chapman, and two great grandchildren, Anna Grace and Grant Chapman.

Funeral services will be held Sunday August 08, 2004 at 3:00 PM at Greenville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Cleveland street. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

The family will be at the home of a son, Donald Ridgell, 17 Chanticleer Drive, Greenville, SC 29605.

Juanita Mack

COLUMBIA — Services for Juanita L. Mack, of 2715 Ansel Street, at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bush River Memorial Gardens.

Daughter of the late Samuel Lloyd, Jr. and Evorn Mosley Lloyd, she was born in Columbia, and died on August 6, 2004.

A wake will be at 7 p.m. this evening at Manigault-Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, 2229 Two Notch Road.

Survivors are: husband, Dennie Mack; sisters, Carlene McLamore, and Sandra Goodwin; a brother, Wilbert Lloyd.

Linda Long

SALUDA — Linda Ann Whittle Long, 56, of 1564 Old Cherokee Trail, died Thursday, August 5, 2004, at Providence Hospital.

Born in Hudson, New York and a daughter of the late John Wesley Whittle and Angelina Alonzo Whittle, she was the wife of James Odell Long. Mrs. Long was a former nurse with Jesse Frank Hawkins Nursing Home. She was a member of Corinth Lutheran Church.

Surviving are her husband, James Odell Long of Saluda, one son and daughter in-law, Johnny and Kandi Long, Sr. of Saluda, one daughter, Melinda Long and Josh of Saluda, four grandchildren, Johnny (JJ) Long, Jr. of the home, Noah Andrew Long, Michael Shane Long, and Chelsea Nikole Cochran of Saluda.

A son, James Wayne Long, preceded Mrs. Long in death.

A memorial service will be held 3PM Sunday, August 8, 2004, at Corinth Lutheran Church with the burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Bill Ebner will be officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home on Saturday, August 7, 2004.

Memorials may be made to Corinth Lutheran Church-Pew Fund, 3178 Denny Highway, Prosperity, SC 29127.

Christine Gregory

UNION — Mrs. Christine Jeter Gregory, age 97, widow of the late Frederick Page Gregory, died Friday, August 6, 2004 at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, S.C.

Born in the old L.B. Jeter, Sr. home in Santuck on December 28, 1906, Mrs. Gregory was a daughter of the late Little Berry and Adeline Crosby Jeter. She was a graduate of Limestone College. She taught school for 38 ˝ years, beginning her career in Pickins County in 1929. For 35 years she taught in Santuck, first at the old Santuck School, and later at Carlsan Elementary School. When she retired, she was a second grade teacher at Carlsan School in Santuck. Mrs. Gregory for many years was a member of Salem Baptist Church, serving as church treasurer and church clerk as well as teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. In 1968, she joined Cane Creek Presbyterian Church with her husband and was an active member there.

Mrs. Gregory was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are a son, Malcolm Chapin Gregory of Santuck; a daughter and son-in-law: Paige Gregory Rumph and Robert Raymond Rumph of Charleston; two step-granddaughters: Wendi Lynn Rumph of Lake Ridge, Virginia and Betsy Rumph Cullen and her husband, Matthew Howard Cullen of Portland, Oregon; two step-great-granddaughters and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gregory was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters: Joseph Hamilton Jeter, John Mobley Jeter, Little Berry Jeter, Jr., Robert Parham Jeter, Frank Hamilton Jeter, Malcolm Crosby Jeter, Ethel Jeter O’Keeffe, Mildred Jeter Strock, Kate Jeter Strother, Flournoy Belle Jeter, Louise J. Jeter and Nancy Jeter Bishop.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Sunday at Cane Creek Presbyterian Church in Santuck conducted by the Rev. Robert M. Gant. Burial will be in the Jeter Cemetery following the church service.

The family will receive friends at the home, 217 Senate Street in the Santuck Community.

Eugene Johnson

ORANGEBURG — Services for Eugene R. Johnson, 50, are 2 p.m. Sunday (viewing noon) at Denmark-Olar H.S. Gym, Denmark; burial: Bushy Pond Baptist Churchyard, Norway. Carroll Mortuary, Denmark, is in charge. Born in Orangeburg Co. to Marion and Eugenia Johnson, he died Aug. 3, 2004. Surviving: wife, Janice; mother; children, Eugene Jr., Erica, Ricardo Johnson, Charlai, Deondre Williams; 4 siblings.

James Benjamin

GREENWOOD — Services for James Dodd Benjamin, 84, WWII Navy veteran, are 4 p.m. Sunday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Blyth Funeral Home; burial: Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Born in Laurens Co. to Samuel and Nannie Owen Dodd Benjamin, he died Aug. 6, 2004. Surviving: wife, Ruby Reese Benjamin; children, Durell Benjamin Sr., Cindy Hughes; sister, Mary Hanson; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

Joseph Timmons

FLORENCE — Joseph Adger Timmons, 66, of 3317 Woodburn Drive, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 5, 2004 after a courageous struggle with leukemia.

Born on December 18, 1937, Joe is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shelby, of Florence. He was a son of the late Rufus and Mary Von Turner Timmons of Hannah. He is also survived by a brother, D.R. “Buster” (Gail) Timmons of Sumter; three nephews, Todd (Karen) Timmons of Sumter, Gregg (Vickie) Hyman of Johnsonville, and Mike Hyman of Maryland; one niece, Kristen (Charlie) Brutsch of Sumter; 57 nieces and nephews, 70 great nieces and nephews, and 34 great-great nieces and nephews. Joe had four namesakes, Merland Joseph Poston of Camden, Anthony Joseph Farmer of Pamplico, Todd Joseph Owens of Johnsonville and Patti Joe Cambagna of Princeton, New Jersey. Known as “Uncle Joe” by many children and friends everywhere, he was a devoted family man and took pride in the love of his family.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Hyman Craven, who died in 1973.

He was a former employee of T&K Manufacturing Company in Turbeville, proud servant of the Florence County Probate Court and a veteran of the United States Air Force.

His greatest accomplishments were those in service to the Lord. He was a member of Hillside Freewill Baptist Church in Florence, where he was currently the Men’s Sunday School Class teacher. He served in every capacity over the years, as Deacon, Trustee, Church Secretary, Youth Director, former Sunday School Superintendent and Eastern Conference Sunday School Superintendent for 23 years. He was a member of the Men’s Fellowship Group as well as the Merry at Heart Seniors Group. Joe also had an active role in the Outreach Program for the church when he spoke at Commander Nursing Home on a monthly basis.

A man of dignity and integrity, Joe was not a stranger to anyone. His kindness and generosity were shown to all who knew and loved him. His love of life will continue in the hearts of those dear to him.

Memorials may be sent to the Merry at Heart Seniors Group at Hillside Baptist Church, 2709 Fleetwood Drive, Florence, SC 29505.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday at Hillside Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Millbranch Cemetery in Johnsonville.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Soudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Dr. James C. Smith, Dr. Robert Stewart and Dr. Orachun Sitti.

Lillie Ouzts

GREENWOOD — Services for Lillie May Bolton Ouzts, widow of John Ouzts, are 3 p.m. Monday (visitation 2 p.m.) at Blyth Funeral Home; entombment in Edgewood Memorial Mausoleum. Born in Greenwood Co. to William and Lula T. Bolton, she died Aug. 6, 2004. A graduate of Lander College, she retired from Leslie Elementary School. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving: niece, Maxine Bolton.
