Robert Odam

BLUFFTON — Robert Thomas Odam, 22, died Saturday, August 14, 2004 in Eastover, SC. He was born on November 7, 1981 in Dearborn, Michigan, son of Robert Douglas Odam and Nancy Copija Odam.

He was a Deputy Sheriff for Beaufort County, a member of the Baptist Church of Beaufort and a mustang car enthusiast, and a veteran of the USAF.

He is survived by his wife, Erin O. Odam of Bluffton, SC; his parents, Robert and Nancy Odam of Okatie, SC; one brother, Jospeh W. Odam of USAF Japan; and one sister, Aubrey Dewey of Birmingham, AL.

Memorial services will be held at Noon on Thursday, August 19, 2004 in the Baptist Church of Beaufort, Beaufort, SC. Visitation will be from 6 til 8, Wednesday at the Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC.

Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton, SC is assisting the family with their arrangements.

Girlene Montgomery

CLOVER — Services for Girlene Webb Montgomery, 80, widow of John Montgomery, 3 pm today: Clover Church of God; burial: Lakeview Memory Gardens, York; visitation 7-9 tonight: Bratton Funeral Home, York. Born in Cosby, TN she died Aug. 16, 2004. She retired as a canteen operator from Gaston Memorial Hospital. Surviving: daughters, Wylene Totherow, Linda Stewart, Patsy Adams; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Pate

GREENVILLE — Kenneth Olin, 66, passed on to a new life August 15, 2004 at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, S.C. after an extended illness. He was the son of the late Theodore Pate and Corine Gladden Pate. He was born May 7, 1938 in Camden, S.C. Mr. Pate attended Antioch School and graduated from Camden High School in 1957. He then joined the United States Air Force. After service he went to work for Berry’s on Main in Columbia as a buyer and decorator for twenty-five years. He then lived in Greenville and worked for the Embassy florist until his retirement in 2000. His great love for life and beauty will always be remembered.

Surviving are four sisters, Jeanett P. Frazier of Sandy Grove Community, Joyce P. Boan, Dottie P. Beasley and Becky P. Boone of the Antioch Community.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at 4 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel.

Jureia Monroe

COLUMBIA — Memorial service for Jureia Elizabeth Bright Monroe, 81, will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Spring Valley Baptist Church. Private burial will be a later date in Shelby, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spring Valley Baptist Church, Coed-F Sunday School Class. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Monroe died Sunday, August 15, 2004. Born in Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Elizabeth Teague Bright. The wife of Rev. Woodrow Franklin Monroe for sixty-four years, she was a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She had leadership roles in all churches where her husband was a Baptist minister for fifty-six years. She was a Christian example and friend to all who knew her.

Surviving are her husband; son, Teddy Richard Monroe of Spartanburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Sybil Annette Monroe Knight and David Knight of Columbia, Mary Ellen Monroe Honeycutt and Lee Honeycutt of Raleigh, N.C. and Carroll Leopard of Thomson, Ga.; brother, Glen Bright of Shelby, N.C.; grandchildren, Paige Leopard Thornton, Anna Knight Locke, Jennifer Monroe Greene, Ellen Honeycutt and Rebecca Monroe; and great-grandchildren, Harrison Thornton, Charles Thornton and Myers Lock. She was predeceased by her daughter, Brenda Joy Monroe Leopard.

Gregory McCoy

SUMTER — Services for Gregory P. McCoy, 14, will be 3 p.m. today (viewing 2 p.m.) at Mt. Sinai AME Church with burial in Edwards Cemetery, both in Lynchburg. Palmer Memorial Chapel is in charge. Born in Bronx, N.Y., to Herbert and Audrey Evans McCoy, he died Aug. 12, 2004. Surviving are his parents; brothers, Gerald, Darnell and Derrick McCoy; sisters, Mary and Amber McCoy, Dayo Murphy.

Junior Plexico

UNION — Services for Theodore Maddoxx Plexico Jr., 38, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home (visitation 7-9 tonight); burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Born in Union to Edna and Theodore Plexico Sr., he died August 16, 2004. He was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle. Surviving are wife, Amy Henderson Plexico; son, Nicholas; sisters, Wendy Saulter, Joyce Burgess.

Emmaline Polk

TIMMONSVILLE — Emmaline “Lina” Dority Polk, 73, the widow of Charles William Polk and the daughter of J.J. and Emma Ham Dority passed away Monday, August 16, 2004 at McLeod Hospital after a short illness. She was the much loved Mother of one daughter, five sons, eleven grand-children, and six great-grandchildren: Dianna (Paul) Brunson of Darlington, Donald (Brenda) Polk of Ladson, David (Patsy) Polk of Timmonsville, Dennis (Davonne) Polk of Lamar, Doug (Angie) Polk of Lamar, Dwayne Polk of the home; grandchildren, Charlie Knotts, Deanna K. Byrd, Tabitha P. Grooms, Chuck Polk, Tiffany P. Corley, Matt and Micheal Polk, Aggie Polk, Danielle and Brandie Andrews and Erin Polk; great-grandchildren: Ryan and Savannah Britt, Parker and Tanner Vause, Justin and Taylor Grooms; a sister, Jacqueline “Sister” Hatchell; two brothers, Richard and Pat Dority, all of Timmonsville; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Polk was predeceased by a grandson, Chris Polk, a great-grandson, Hunter Knotts, a sister, Betty Lynch and a brother, Roy Ham.

Graveside services will be at 3 o’clock, Wednesday August 18, 2004 in Lake Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Rogers officiating.

Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, S.C. 29506.

The family will be at the home of David and Patsy Polk, 2340 Loafers Glory Road in the Lake Swamp Community.

The Polk Family would like to extend special thanks to the McLeod Regional Medical Center Staff.

Born in Darlington Co. to Bobby Sr. and Virginia George Prince, he died Aug. 12, 2004. Surviving: parents; grandmother, Minnie George; siblings, Sonya, Keidra, Shauntelle, Bobby Jr. Prince, Rondelle Wheeler.

Nadean Ritter

WALTERBORO — Services for Nadean Graves Ritter, 76, widow of Parker Ritter, will be 11 a.m. Thursday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home; burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Born in Walterboro to James and Lillie Crosby Graves, she died August 16, 2004. Surviving: son, Joe Ritter; grandsons, Joey, Billy, Rev. Michael Ritter; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters; several nieces and nephews.

Allen Schneider

KERSHAW — Allen Schneider, 88, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at White Oak Manor in Lancaster, S.C. She was born May 5, 1916, in Kershaw, the daughter of the late Allen and Nettie Gandy Knight.

She was a homemaker and a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Darrell Hinson and his wife, Sue, of Kershaw; grandson, Heath Hinson and great-grandson, Daniel Wade Hinson of Lancaster; stepson, Mike Bailey and his wife, Jane, of Rock Hill, S.C. and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, William Knight, Coleman Knight and Orie Knight and sisters, Thelma Pitts and Evie Gregory.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 18, 2004 from 6-7 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 19, 2004 at 3 p.m. at Sand Hill Baptist Church, conducted by Reverend Pat Minihane with burial in Kershaw City Cemetery.

The family asks memorial contributions be made to the charity of one’s choice.

ST. GEORGE — Dorothy S. Street, 88, of 211 Ridge Street, died Monday, August 16, 2004 in Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 19, 2004 in the St. George United Methodist Church with Rev. Wash Belangia officiating. Burial will follow in the St. George Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Oliver W. Street, III, James Dunn, Wayne Seigler, George Reeves, Richard Behling, and Don Canaday. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at Bryant Funeral Home.

Mrs. Street was born March 7, 1916 in Columbia, SC a daughter of the late William and Daisy Louise Roumallat Sowell. She was a former inspector for Carolina Industries, a member of the St. George United Methodist Church and a member of the Mary Bailey Circle. She was the widow of Oliver Wendell Street, Sr.

Surviving are a son, Oliver Wendell (Buddy) Street, Jr. and his wife Diana of Plantation, FL and a daughter Mrs. Emily S. Dunn, and her husband Carl of St. George. Grandchildren, Heidi Street, Plantation, FL, Oliver W. (Buddy) Street, III, Corrina Landers, both Ft. Lauderdale, FL, James (Melissa) Dunn, Leesville, SC, Janet (Wayne) Seigler, Aiken, SC. Great-grandchildren, Angel Landers, Lauren Seigler, and Landon Seigler. A sister-in-law, Clara Redmond, Aiken, SC. Memorials are suggested to the St. George United Methodist Church, 120 N. Parler Ave., St. George, SC 29477.

SUMMERVILLE — Services for Patricia R. Ryan, 80, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church (visitation at 5-7 Thursday with vigil service at 6:30); burial in Dorchester Memory Gardens. James A. Dyal Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Alder Brook, NY to John and Marguerite Buckley Ryan, she died Aug. 15, 2004. Surviving: spouse, Robert; children, Christopher, Sharon; siblings.

Charles Stephenson III

COLUMBIA — Services for Mr. Charles Eugene Stephenson, III, 55, today at 3 p.m. at Bishop’s Memorial A.M.E. Church with burial in Palmetto Cemetery. Leevy's Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge.

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Charles Eugene Stephenson, Jr. He departed this life on Thursday, August 12, 2004 in Charleston, South Carolina.

He attended the public schools in Richland County and graduated from C.A. Johnson High. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in economics and business from Johnson C. Smith University. He was the first African-American to own multiple franchises of Burger King and a Long John Silver Restaurants in Columbia, South Carolina.

He attended Bishop’s Memorial A.M.E. Church, was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, a member of Johnson C. Smith Alumni Club, and a member of Alpha Iota Boule of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity. He was currently employed with the Charleston County Public School System.

His survivors are two daughters, Dr. Stephanie Stephenson (Otis) Williams and Denise Stephenson two granddaughters, Lana Chappelle Belton and Olivia Taylor Williams; two sisters, Diane Stephenson Roy and Lynn Stephenson of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a niece, nephews other loving relatives and friends.

Susan Watson

NORTH AUGUSTA. — Services for Miss Susan Watson, 44, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shellhouse Funeral Home (visitation 2-7 p.m. today), Aiken, with burial in Historic Bethany Cemetery. Surviving are her adopted sister, Evelyn Whitehead; foster family, Joel, Jackie Hawkins; Victory Baptist Church (where she was a member) family; Tri-Development (where she was a baker) family.

John Thomas

SUMTER — Services for John E. Thomas, 78, Mason, Shriner, are 11 a.m. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home (visitation 7-8 tonight); burial in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Born in Clarendon Co. to John and Thelma Holliday Furse, he died August 17, 2004. Surviving are his wife, Helen; sons, John, Richard; granddaughters, Kristin, Hannah; sisters, Billie Bradham, Helen Owen.
