William Conley

IRMO — William Harold Conley, 78, died Sunday, October 17, 2004. Born in Ashland, KY he was the son of the late William Russell Conley and Lillian Hart Conley. He retired from the Federal Aviation Agency.

He is survived by his wife, Marie W. Conley of Irmo; sons, David Russell Conley (Jan) of Advance, NC; Gerald W. Conley of Columbia; granddaughter, Megan Conley; grandson, Matthew Conley; sisters, Cleora Egner of Orrville, OH; Virginia Swain of Medford Center, OH; brother, Donald W. Conley of Fairfield, CA. Mr. Conley was preceded in death by son, William H. Conley, Jr.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Beyond the Open Door at Riverland Hills Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2004 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Sue McAteer

LANCASTER — A graveside service for Sue McAteer, 59, is 3 p.m. Tuesday in Allen Family Cemetery, Burnsville, N.C. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home. Born in York to Robert and Louise Thigpen McAteer, she died October 16, 2004. Surviving are husband, Floyd Allen; son, Robert Allen; siblings, Steve, Danny, Mike McAteer, Polly McInvaille, Nancy Mosier; grandchildren, Travis, Heather Allen.

Sam Pear

NEW YORK — Services for Sam Pear, 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Joshua United Methodist Church, Strawberry, S.C., with burial in Promiseland Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Rivers Funeral Home, Goose Creek, S.C. Born to Isaac Pear and Rebecca Smalls, he died October 11, 2004. Surviving is daughter, Annette Weston.

Annie Hinson

ELGIN — Funeral service for Annie Met Hinson, 85, of Elgin, will be held 2:30 o’clock, Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at Congregational Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by Pastor Wesley E. Luke. Interment will follow in Fox Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Monday evening at Shives Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Tri County, 111 Executive Point Blvd., Columbia, SC 29210.

Mrs. Hinson died Sunday, October 17, 2004. Born in Chesterfield, SC, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Molly Gathins Shehorn. She was a member of Congregational Pentecostal Holiness Church. She devoted most of her life to raising her large family.

Surviving are daughters, Annie Grace Ross, Betty Holt, Louise Blizzard, Molly Marie (Ricky) Stewart, all of Elgin; son, Billy (Kim) Shehorn of Ravanna OH; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren. Those who preceded her in death are her first husband, Levi Shehorn, second husband, William Hinson, son, Junior Shehorn.

Berley Shealy Jr.

SALUDA — Berley Jefferson Shealy, Jr., 81, formerly of 308 N. Jefferson St., died Sunday, October 17, 2004, at Saluda Nursing Center.

Born in Savannah, GA, he was the son of the late Berley Jefferson Shealy, Sr. and the late Mary Jane Cummings Shealy. Mr. Shealy was married to Jean Doris Feagle Shealy. He was a Chief Medical Technologist retired from Decatur Medical Center in GA. Mr. Shealy was in the U.S. Army and served in WWII. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church.

Surviving is his wife Jean Doris Feagle Shealy.

Graveside service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at Travis Park Cemetery with the Rev. Edward Miller officiating.

Memorials may be made to Saluda Nursing Center, P.O. Box 398, Saluda, SC 29138 and to Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, 101 N. Calhoun Street, Saluda, SC 29138.

Ramey Funeral Home is in charge.

Nannie Loving

BEAUFORT — Services for Nannie Chauncey Strickland Loving, 78, widow of John Strickland and Walter Loving Jr., are 1 p.m. Thursday at Gospel Light Christian Ministries; burial in Beaufort National Cemetery; visitation 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Anderson Funeral Home. Born in Wilson Co., N.C., to James and Salley Chauncey, she died October 17, 2004. Surviving: daughter, Sally Berry; brother, Earl Chauncey.

Paul Stacks

LANCASTER — The Celebration of Life service for Paul Brown Stacks, 69, is 3 p.m. Wednesday at Crestview Baptist Church; burial in Lancaster Memorial Park. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home. Born in Lancaster Co. to Dexter and Sarah Stacks, he died Oct. 18, 2004. Surviving: wife, Norma R. Stacks; daughter, Paula Stacks; grandson, Matthew Stacks; sisters, Frances Steele, Jackie Sowell, Judy King.

Creighton Lewis

NEWBERRY — Creighton Andrew “Andy” Lewis, 21, died October 17, 2004, after injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Andy was born in Newberry County, July 28, 1983, son of William “Bill” Primm and Elizabeth “Beth” Marshall Lewis.

A 2001 Graduate of Union High, he was a member of the International Honor Society, Beta Club and Tennis Team.

Upon graduating he was enrolled at The Citadel where he was a senior Cadet, Class of 2004, he currently holds rank of Cadet Second Lieutenant, honor Representative of Charlie Company which is an elected position of the most Honorable Cadet. He held rank of Squad Corporal his sophomore year and Squad Sergeant his Junior Year. Andy was also a member of the Tennis Team, The Republican Society, The Rod and Gun Club, an Eagle Scout, Head Counselor for the Citadel Summer Camp, and a Deans List Student. He was a Business major studying for the Law School Aptitude Test in his quest to become a Lawyer. In February 2003, during his sophomore year he studied at Griffith University at the Gold Coast in Australia. Andy, during his time away from school worked with his Father and Mother at their family business, The Lewis Nursery and Farm Inc.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his paternal Grandparents, Clayteen and Betty Marberry Lewis of Greenville, SC, and a Brother, William P. Lewis Jr. of Greenville, SC. He was predeceased by his Maternal Grandparents Willis Andrew “Dub” Jr. and Lelia Elizabeth “Lib” Moore Marshall. He is also survived by his loving dog Shadow.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday October 20, at 2:00pm at Whitmire Presbyterian Church, Visitation will be held Tuesday October 19, from 6-8pm at the Church.

Pallbearers will be his fellow Cadets.

The family is at the home.

Memorials may be made to The Citadel or Whitmire Presbyterian Church.

Joseph Paszter

CAYCE — A graveside service with military rites for Joseph Paszter, 79, WWII Army veteran, widower of Dorothy A. Paszter, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Southland Memorial Gardens. Thompson Funeral Home, West Columbia, is in charge. Born in Duquesne, PA, to Michael and Mary Salley Paszter, he died Oct. 16, 2004.

Jimmy Rankin

BATESBURG-LEESVILLE — James A. “Jimmy” Rankin, 71, of Batesburg-Leesville, died Sunday, October 17, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Batesburg Cemetery with Rev. Daniel Norman and Rev. Robert Culbertson officiating.

Mr. Rankin was born in Batesburg to the late Joseph Albert and Allie Bertha Rankin. He was a member of East Side Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran and served in the Korean war.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Matthews Rankin; daughter and son-in-law, Rosa Marie and Terry Waters; son, James Danny Rankin, all of Batesburg-Leesville; grandchildren, James Charles Waters, Tara and Ryan Clamp; great-grandchild, Justin Clamp; preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Alvin and Winfield Rankin; sisters, Evelyn Kirkland and Rosa Vivian Rankin.

Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at his residence. Memorials can be made to: Tri-County Hospice Care, 111 Executive Point Blvd., Columbia, SC 29210 and East Side Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2159, Batesburg-Leesville, SC 29006.

BAMBERG — Services for Sidney Martin, 54, are 3 p.m. today at Thankful Baptist Church; burial: Free Gift Baptist Church Cemetery; visitation at Thankful Baptist Church following the burial. Carroll Mortuary is in charge. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Henry Stroman and Beatrice Saxon, he died Oct. 14, 2004. Surviving: father; stepmother, Bernice Stroman; children, Sidney, Tonya Holman; 7 siblings; 2 grandchildren.

Larry Hightower

Born in Orangeburg to Ronald and Kathleen C. Hightower, he died Oct. 17, 2004. Surviving: mother; wife, Nancy F. Lucille Altman

Watson-King Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Florence Co. to Ronie and Wardie Poston, she died Oct. 18, 2004. Lydia Phillips

LYNCHBURG — Services with burial for Lydia Phillips, 83, widow of W.C. Phillips, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Visitation is 6-7:30 tonight at Floyd Funeral Home, Olanta. Surviving are children, Julie Ann Reynolds, William Phillips Jr.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

CHESTER — A memorial service for William Ray “Yank” Templeton, 85, widower of Irene Templeton, is 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church; burial with Masonic rites in Chester Memorial Gardens. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, to Cecil and Daisy Weaver Jessop, she died Oct. 17, 2004. She was a member of Lamar Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving are brothers, Carl, Robert, John, Ted, Willie Windham; aunt, Bill Grimes.

James Adams

MCCORMICK — Services for James “Jamie” Brantley Adams, 29, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Buffalo Baptist Church with burial in Wideman Cemetery. Strom Funeral Home is in charge. Born in McCormick, he was the son of Virginia E. Adams of McCormick and Thomas Adams of Jacksonville, Fla. Mr. Adams died October 17, 2004, in Augusta.
