Jacqueline Doucett

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — Jacqueline Moneyhan Doucett, 70, of Amelia Island and formerly of Bishopville, SC, died Wednesday, October 20, 2004, in Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, after a brief illness.

Born in Jacksonville, FL, she was the daughter of the late John Ellis Moneyhan and Ella Fair Dawson Moneyhan Malone. She was a graduate of Pensacola High School in Pensacola, FL, and attended Pensacola Jr. College. Mrs. Doucett was the owner of the Hearon House Gallery, formerly located in Bishopville, SC, and currently on Amelia Island. An avid collector of fine prints, antiques, and collectibles, Mrs. Doucett was widely recognized for her artistic talent in picture framing and was a certified member of the Professional Picture Framers Association. She was a member of the Fernandina Beach Optimist Club, the Fernandina Beach Shrine Club Ladies Organization, The Chamber of Commerce and the First Baptist Church of Bishopville, SC.

Surviving are her husband, James T. Doucett of Fernandina Beach, FL; daughter, Renee Doucett Bagnal, and husband, Hans of Columbia, SC; son, Raymond M. Doucett, and wife, Glenda of Columbia, SC; son, James M. Doucett, and wife, Kimberly of Pompano Beach, FL; grandsons, Hunter Bagnal, Holden Bagnal, Christopher Doucett, and Tyler Doucett of Columbia, SC, and James Stephen Doucett of Pompano Beach, FL. Mrs. Doucett was preceded in death by her stepfather, Everett O. Malone and a brother, Raymond A. Moneyhan.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1 PM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Overton, Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach, officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorials be made in Jackie’s name to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32557 or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607. Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.

DELTONA, Fla. — Services in Bamberg, S.C., for Frank Glover, 93, are 1 p.m. Saturday (viewing noon) at Pilgrim Baptist Church; burial in Bamberg Memory Gardens; visitation to follow. The Carroll Mortuary is in charge. Born in Hampton Co. to Alex and Beatrice Glover, he died Oct. 16, 2004. Surviving: adopted daughter, Gladys Glover; grandchildren, Gregory, Kenneth, Wayne Glover, Kimberly Williams, Kim Cartwright.

Cornetta Frierson

SUMMERTON — Services with burial for Cornetta Nelson Frierson, 92, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthews AME Church. Friends may call at the home, 1114 Wilson Ave. Summerton Funeral Service is in charge. She died Oct. 15, 2004. Surviving are children Thomas, Henry, Susie, Amie, Sarah, Daisy, Rev. Evelyn.

Thomas Hannegan

ROCK HILL — Services for Thomas Edward Hannegan, 54, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday (visitation 7-8:30 tonight) at Greene Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel with burial in Forest Hills Cemetery. Born in Massachusetts to Walter Hannegan and Ruth Briggs, he died Oct. 20, 2004. Surviving: mother; wife, Donna Hannegan; children, Christopher, Steven, Alisha Young; siblings, Christopher Hannegan, Jean Hill.

James Macdonald III

CLINTON — Services for Dr. James Macdonald, III, of 408 Elm Street, Clinton, South Carolina, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2004, at All Saints Episcopal Church, Clinton, followed by a committal service at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Columbia, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 505 Calvert Avenue, Clinton, SC 29325, or the charity of one’s choice.

Dr. Macdonald died October 20, 2004, at his home. He was married to the former Lucia Murchison Jenkins of Charleston, South Carolina, for forty-six years until her death in 1999.

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, on December 20, 1924, he was the son of James and Margaret Macdonald, and a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Columbia. He was a 1949 graduate of The Citadel and the Medical College of South Carolina, now known as the Medical University of South Carolina. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the 8th Air Force, 305th Bomb Group, based in England.

Dr. Macdonald practiced medicine in Clinton for forty-six years and served as a physician for Presbyterian College for forty-four years. He was past president of Laurens County Medical Society, a former Chief of Staff of Bailey Memorial Hospital, and a member of the South Carolina Medical Association.

As a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, he served as Junior and Senior Warden and was Chairman of the Organ Committee.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Claude H. (Jenks) Howe, III, of Clinton, South Carolina, Mrs. Thomas B. (Margaret) Myers of Camden, South Carolina and Mrs. Dana L. (Lib) Harkness of Rock Hill, South Carolina; and seven grandchildren, Mac and Hamilton Howe, Thomas, Jordan and Patrick Myers, Elizabeth and Margaret Harkness. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Alfred W. (Betty Wray) Jones, Jr. of St. Simons, Georgia. He was predeceased by one brother, Lt. Col. Robert W. Macdonald, USAF, Ret.

The family will be at his home on Elm Street, Clinton, South Carolina.

GREER — Services for Kenneth Maynard Hester, 70, 3 p.m. Saturday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at The Howze Mortuary, Travelers Rest; burial in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Born in Pickens Co. to Jim and Elmeda Hester, he died Oct. 21, 2004. Surviving: wife, Clara; sons, Derrick, Keith Hester; stepchildren, Donna Johnson, Janet Elbert, Karen Burton; sisters, Frances Monroe, Jean Mailen, Barbara Payne; others.

Mary Holladay

ORANGEBURG — Mary Ruth Holladay, 91, of 1163 Eutaw St., died Thursday, October 21, 2004, at The Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at 11AM Saturday, October 23, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Barry L. Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Mineral VA. Pallbearers: Edgar McGee, Rev. James McGee, Hinche McGee, Curt Campbell, Chalmers Mikell, Dr. Lawton Salley. Dukes-Harley Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Holladay was born in Mullins, a daughter of the late Samuel Reid Cooper and Jennie Mae Dunn Cooper. She was a retired school teacher, having started her career in 1934 at Due West High School. She then spent seven years teaching at Montreat College, Montreat, NC. After serving with The Red Cross, she began her teaching career in Orangeburg at Thackston Jr. High and Brookdale Middle School with 24 years of service. She was a graduate of Erskine College a member of First Presbyterian Church, Camellia Garden Club, Moultrie Chapter of DAR, Delta Kappa Gamma and other community organizations. She was the widow of James Minor Holladay.

Survivors: daughter, Jane Holladay, Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church 650 Summers Ave. Orangeburg, SC 29115.

Family will receive friends 6-8 Friday evening at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home.

Robert McDaniel

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A graveside service for Robert Cornwell McDaniel, 70, is 2 p.m. Sunday in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Barron Funeral Home, Chester, S.C. Born in Chester to Raymond and Evelyn McDaniel, he died Oct. 18, 2004. Surviving: wife, Betty; stepdaughter, Dona Bailey; siblings, Charlie, Roy, Harold, George, Walter, Roger McDaniel, Margaret Hodge, Frances Carns.

Hazel McLendon

GRANITEVILLE — Services for Hazel Gardner McLendon, 87, are 3 p.m. Saturday at Langley Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a member; burial in Graniteville Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Napier Funeral Home. Born in Graniteville to Elijah and Mary Gardner, she died Oct. 20, 2004. Surviving: husband, Cecil McLendon; sons, Don, Mike McLendon; grandson, Jared McLendon.

Mertie Price

GILBERT — Services for Mertie Price Price, 87, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday from Beulah United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Doug Sterling, Charles Johnson, Eddie Porter, Gary Fulmer, Tim Shealy, Bruce Gunter, Russell Durst, Bruce Douglass. Visitation will be Friday from 6:30 to 8 pm at Barr-Price Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to Beulah UMC, 161 Beulah Church Road, Gilbert, SC 29054.

Mrs. Price, widow of Cleburn C. Price, died Thursday October 21, 2004. Born in Lexington County a daughter of the late Ulys Price and Ludie Taylor Price Craps. She was a member of Beulah UMC for 70 years and had retired from Capitol City Mfg. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grams who will truly be missed.

Surviving are daughters, Janice (Bobby) Warren and Linda (Tillman Rucker) Price of Gilbert; grandchildren, Cynthia Count of Elgin; Billy (Sharen) Warren of West Columbia; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Count, Ashley and Alyssa Warren; sisters, Martha Dominick and Lois Johnson of Cayce; Eunice Durst of Batesburg; Florence Sterling of Seneca. She was predeceased by a sister, Leona Shealy.

Verne Hutson

BARNWELL — Services for Verne Hutson, 71, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Green Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church; burial in Barnwell Memorial Park Cemetery; visitation 6-8 tonight at Folk Funeral Home, Williston. Born in Springfield to Isaiah and Rodell Hutson, he died Oct. 20, 2004. Surviving: wife, Susie Hutson; children, Darlene Renew, Terry, Todd, Charles Hutson; 3 sisters; 3 brothers; 10 grandchildren.

James Reynolds

LUGOFF — Funeral services with military rites for James Henry Reynolds, 83, will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 4:00 PM in St. John’s United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery Rev. Pam Ledbetter will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 22, 2004 from 7:00-9:00 PM in Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church Bus Fund, 45 Roseborough Road, Lugoff, SC 29078.

James Henry Reynolds, died October 20, 2004. Born in Wilmington, NC, he was the son of the late Wade Hampton and Victoria Humphries Reynolds. He had retired from the civil service having worked with the National Institute of Health. Mr. Reynolds received his MBA from Southeastern University, Washington , D.C. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church where he was a past board member, volunteer for the Red Cross, former board member for Habitat for Humanity, organized “Meals on Wheels” program for Council on Aging in the Lugoff area, founded Boys Club of America in Fairfax, Va., past member of the Kiwanis International and a volunteer for SCORE in Columbia, SC.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Vassil Reynolds, children, James H. Reynolds, Jr. and his wife, Susan, Oakton, Va., Cheryl Ann Reynolds of Lugoff, and Karen Joyce Murphy and her husband, Stephen, of Rantoul, IL, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Floyd A. Reynolds.

Owen Singletary

GUYTON, Ga. — Owen H. “Duke” Singletary, Sr. 75 of Guyton, died October 21, 2004 at his home. He was born February 19, 1929 in Marlboro County, South Carolina to Claude Singletary and Edith Baxley Singletary.

He served in the Army, joining when he was 17. He worked for many years for Ocean Coating Company and was the Plant foreman in the paint department. He moved to the Savannah area in 1975.

Mr. Singletary was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Singletary, three brothers, Pete Singletary, Claude Singletary and Jim Singletary.

Owen is survived by his son, Owen H. Singletary, Jr., two grandsons, Jordan Bala and Bryson Singletary.

Visitation will be Saturday 6-8 P.M. at Massey-Framke Funeral Care.

Services will be private with family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests remembrances to Spanish Oaks Hospice, 8510 Whitfield Avenue, GA 31406.

BAMBERG — Services with burial for Carrie Smith, 82, widow of William Smith, are 3 p.m. Saturday at Honey Ford Baptist Church, Denmark; visitation to follow. Carroll Mortuary is in charge. Born in Bamberg Co. to Robert and Eva Chislom, she died Oct. 17, 2004. Surviving: children, Willie Mae Toomer, Marion Martin, Isaac, Jacob, George, Edwin Smith; stepchildren, Jestine Wise, Beronie Smith; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

Gladys Barton

CHESTER — A graveside service for Gladys Gardner Barton, 86, widow of Walter Barton, will be held at 11 a.m. today in Lancaster Memorial Park. Barron Funeral Home is in charge. Born in York County to Benjamin and Roas Alice Ogburn Gardner, she died October 20, 2004. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her daughters, Ann Bell and Marian Elliott and three grandchildren.

Deloris Brown

COLUMBIA — Services for Deloris “Lois” Brown are 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Brown Chapel AME Church with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Columbia to Robert and Dorothy Pelzer Brown, she died Oct. 18, 2004. Surviving are children, Wanda Kelly, Rhonda, Alonzo and Natasha Brown; parents; siblings, Robert, Ronald, Cynthia Brown.

MARIETTA — Graveside service for Alden Theodore “Red” Burgess, 76, truck driver, 11 a.m. Saturday (10 a.m. visitation) in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The Howze Mortuary, Travelers Rest, is in charge. Born in Pickens Co. to Elijah and Elizabeth Robinson Burgess, he died Oct. 21, 2004. Surviving: wife, Kathleen Reynolds Burgess; children, Donald, Jerry Burgess, Jonell Hart; siblings; grandchildren.

Mary Wynne

COLUMBIA — Services for Mary Shelya Wynne will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday (visitation 6-7 tonight) at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Born in Berkley, W.Va., to Robert and Iris Penn, she died Oct. 18, 2004. Surviving are her two loving sons, Anthony and Robert Hatchett; six grandchildren.

Simon Williams Jr.

JOHNSTON — Services for Simon Williams Jr. will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Bland Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Family and friends can view at Davis Funeral home today noon-8 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m.
