Margaret Della Thorne Kolb, 87, widow of James Mack “Son” Kolb, Jr., died Friday, August 1, 2003 at a local nursing center.
Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Howard Thorne, Sr. and the late T’Litha Vick Thorne.
Mrs. Kolb was a member of Grace Baptist Church for 75 years. She was also a member of the Cuttino/Alderman Sunday School Class, the Jennie Alderman Bible Study Group, and being an avid reader, was a member of Friends of the Library.
Surviving are two daughters, Corinne K. Poston and Linda K. Newman and husband Terry; a sister, Virginia “Snookie” T. Montague; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara K. Lemacks; a son, James Mack “Jimmy” Kolb, III; six sisters Hilda T. Whisnant, Thelma T. Raymond, Mary T. Chandler, Kate T. Salisbury, Helen T. Brogdon, and Mildred T. Hurst; and two brothers, Frank H. Thorne, Jr. and Raymond A. Thorne, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James R. Chandler, Jr. and her nephew, the Rev. Dr. Hal L. Salisbury, Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 108 Westwood Drive.

Margaret “Maggie” Gertrude Timmons Sims, 87, widow of Eugene H. Sims, died Friday, August 1, 2003 at a local nursing center.
Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late William Timothy Timmons and the late Eunice Hodge Timmons.
Mrs. Sims was a member of Sumter Bible Church and was retired from Rowe’s Drug Store.
Surviving are two sons, Harvey J. Sims and Wayne T. Sims both of Sumter; a sister, Lucile Barnes of Sumter; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 P.M. Monday in the Chapel of the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. James Houtz officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Hyatt, Herbert Hudson, William Barnes, Harvin Barnes, Wayne Sims, Jr. and Nelson Johnson.

Pamela Faye Turner Griffin
1955-2003
Pamela Faye Turner Griffin, 48, wife of Joseph “Joby” Griffin, died Thursday, August 7, 2003 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. Turner and the late Margaret Christine Turner Turner.
Mrs. Griffin attended Green Acres Assembly of God and New Start Community Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; a daughter, Stacy Lynn Griffin of Sumter; two brothers, Edward “Pee Wee” Turner and Tommy Lynn Turner, both of Sumter; and a sister, Martha Gomez of Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the Chapel of the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Collins and the Rev. Dale Turner officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Yarborough, Dan Strickland, D.J. Griffin, Jamie Mount, Wayne Allsbrook, and Frank Howard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robbie McCathern and D.J. Kelly.

Benjamin Franklin Brown, Jr., 60, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at a local nursing center.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Benjamin F. Brown, Sr. and the late Placeida McLeod Brown.
Mr. Brown attended Calvary Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are three brothers, Douglas Brown, Edward Brown, and Louie Brown all of Sumter; three sisters, Elease McCall, Ethel Brown both of Sumter and Odeal Shipmen of Cornelius, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Friday in the Chapel of the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. G. W. Harrell officiating.
Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Stanley McLeod, Kenny Kolb, Frank Earles, Ronnie Joye, Eric Stubbs and Vernice Meade.

John Edwin Ellis

John Edwin Ellis, 50, husband of Anna Windham Ellis, died Thursday, August 14, 2003 at his home.
Born in Midland, Texas he was a son of Beulah Fern Coker Ellis and the late Melvin E. “Pete” Ellis.
Mr. Ellis graduated from Midland High School in 1971. He was an Eagle Scout. He joined the FBI when he was 18 years old and served for 11 years. He later served with the Midland Texas Police Force for 8 years. He graduated from Texas A&M, and attended George Washington University in Maryland.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; his mother of Midland, Texas ; two daughters, Jennifer Ann Ellis and Kristin Fern Ellis both of Sumter; a brother, Matthew Allen Ellis of Midland, Texas ; two grandchildren, Chadwick Smith and Brittany Olson both of Sumter; and an aunt, Patsy Donnell of Midland, Texas .
Memorial services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday in the Chapel of the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

Gary Kent Neese 48, died Wednesday, August 13, 2003 in Valdosta, Georgia.
Born in Sumter, September 22, 1954, he was a son of Earl Jake Neese and the late Evelyn Elaine Geddings Neese.
Surviving are his father of Valdosta, Georgia; three brothers, Dr. Richard Earl Neese and wife Kathy Jo of Palm Harbor, Fla., Kevin Neese and wife Debra of Valdosta, Ga., and David Neese and wife Dee of Rome, Ga.; a nephew, Louis Earl Neese; three nieces, Kendra, Amber and Kacey Neese.
Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday in the Sumter Cemetery.
