FLORENCE H. DICKERSON

Florence Hine Dickerson, wife of Norman P. Dickerson, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at National Healthcare of Sumter. Born July 7, 1909, in Middleton, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Michael Hine and Margaret Foley Hine. Mrs. Dickerson attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Middleton. She and her husband were co-owners of Dickerson’s Fuel Oil and Bottled Gas Service in Middletown. Survivors besides her husband of Sumter include a daughter, Donna Sannwald and her husband William Sannwald of Sumter; a sister, Frances Bentley of Middletown; three grandchildren, Mary Hood, Karen Sannwald and JoAnn Sannwald; and a great-grandchild, Regan Hood. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bullock Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church with the Rev. A. McKay officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sannwald on Sequoia Drive. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation, Mid-State S.C. Chapter, P.O. Box 74, Columbia, SC 29202 or St. Anne Catholic Church, 216 E. Liberty St. Bullock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ANNIE B. GIST

UNION — Annie Booker Gist, widow of Ottis Gist, died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia. Mrs. Gist was born in Union County. Survivors include a son, James O. Gist of Sumter; two daughters, Marion Gist of Columbia and Jannie R. Gorden of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and 15 grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carnith Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Bush officiating. Burial will be in Carnith Society Cemetery. The family will receive messages at the home of James O. and Juanita Gist, 1004 Porter St., Sumter. RICHARD HODGE

Richard Hodge, formerly of Sumter, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at his home in Newport News, Va. Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late John and Mamie Butler Hodge. Courtesy announcement of Community Funeral Home in Sumter.

MARY SUE D. HOLLAND

MANNING — Mary Sue DeCoster Fulton Holland died Thursday evening, Nov. 26, 1998, at the Florence Convalescent Center in Florence. Born Dec. 10, 1927, in Kingstree, she was a daughter of the late Abraham DeCoster and Suzanna Bradley DeCoster. Mrs. Holland attended Williamsburg public schools. She was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. She retired from the dietary department at Clarendon County School District 2 after many years of service. She was first married to the late Leroy Fulton Sr., and then to the late Lawrence “Pete” Holland. Survivors include a son, Leroy Fulton Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a niece who was her caregiver, Ella Pressley of the home; and a brother, Minister Willie DeCoster of Kingstree. Services were held at 11 a.m. today at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 105 Dinkins St., with the Rev. George P. Windley, pastor, officiating, assisted by Bishop James Pratt and the Rev. Cokley Richburg. Burial was in Manning Cemetery. The family received friends at the home of her niece, Ella Pressley, 203 Barfield St. Samuels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MONTENEAL D. LAWRENCE

Monteneal Donye’ Lawrence died Friday evening, Nov. 27, 1998, in Bridgeport, Conn. The family will receive friends at the home of Robert L. Lawrence Sr., 157 Lawrence Drive, Georgetown, S.C. Services will be announced by Community Funeral Home in Sumter.

GABE SPRY

Gabe Spry, husband of Willa Mae Spry, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998. He was born Nov. 15, 1934, in Clarendon County. The family will receive friends at the home, 507 Sierra St., Sumter. Services will be announced by Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home in Manning.

WILLIAM M. TOMLIN

SILVER — William M. Tomlin died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Windsor Manor Nursing Home. He was a son of Roosevelt and Rosa Lee Davis Tomlin. The family will receive friends at the home of his brother, Wayne Tomlin, 195 Sawgrass Court. Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. in Sumter.

JERRY TUCKER

COLUMBIA — Jerry Tucker, 43, husband of Ardreen Tucker, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. He was born June 27, 1955, in Sumter. The family will receive friends at the home, 10-A Briarcliff Mobile Home Park, Dalzell. Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. in Sumter.

CLOROY C. WILLIAMS

PAXVILLE — Cloroy Conyers Williams of Route 1, Box 440-B, in the Paxville community of Manning, wife of David Williams, died this morning, Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning after an extended illness. Born March 1, 1947, in the Paxville community, she was a daughter of Amos Conyers and the late Essie Mae Evans Conyers. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and her companion, Corinne Green and Leroy “Jock” Conyers, Route 1, Box 522, in the Paxville community. Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home in Manning.

WINSLOW ALLEN

LAKE CITY — Winslow “Brick” Allen, 73, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at Dorn Veterans Medical Center in Columbia. He was a son of the late Fred and Flossie Allen. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister and her husband, Christine and Leroy Gamble, 523 Palm Circle, Lake City. Services will be announced by Green’s Funeral Home.

NELL W. BUSH

MANNING — Nell White Bush, 78, widow of John Edward Bush, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born June 26, 1920, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Franklin White and Margaret Fort White. Mrs. Bush was a retired store clerk, having worked at Carter’s 5 & 10 and Carter’s Antiques. She attended Manning First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Walter E. “Roadpacker” Bush of Manning; two daughters, Clemmie Pickelsimer of Columbia and Wendy Bush of Manning; three grandchildren, Renee Bush, Kimberly Hill and Brian Pickelsimer; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Manning First Baptist Church with the Rev. Sim Smith officiating. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers will be E.G. “Slick” Gibbons, Danny Thompson, Jim Weatherly, Terry Alsbrooks, Richard Berry and Maceo Pack. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home, and at other times at the home, 802 W. Huggins St. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 49 W. Boyce St., Manning. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

EUGENE CANTY

NEWARK, N.J. — Eugene Canty died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at East Orange General Hospital in East Orange, N.J. Born June 6, 1946, in Clarendon County, S.C., he was a son of Smith Canty and the late Louvenia Dingle Canty. Mr. Canty attended Clarendon County public schools. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Upon moving to Newark, he attended Little Rock Holiness Church. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Pea-Barney Paper Company in Newark. Survivors besides his father of Manning, S.C., include a son, Shawn Henderson of Newark; six brothers, Willie Canty and Joseph Canty, both of Newark, LeRoy Canty of Irvington, N.J., William Canty of East Orange, N.J., Deacon Albert Canty and Deacon Roman Canty, both of Manning; and three sisters, Sarah Pearson, Frances Dingle and Evangelist Eloise Pompey, all of Manning; and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Baptist Church in Manning with the Rev. Jonathan Mouzon officiating, assisted by the Rev. Sam Miller and the Rev. Otis Wright. Burial will be in State Cemetery in the Jordan community of Manning. The family will receive friends at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Hoover and Sarah Pearson, 322 S. Mill St., Manning. Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home in Manning, S.C., is in charge of arrangements.
