Richard Dais Sr., widower of Elizabeth Dais, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Mariner Health Care of Sumter East. Born June 6, 1918, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Eugene and Allene Rembert Dais. The family will receive friends at his home, 5810 Stage Coach Road, Rembert. Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc.

SAM DENNIS

COLUMBIA — Sam Dennis, 78, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Richland Memorial Hospital. Born June 2, 1920, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Lucille Dennis. The family will receive friends at the home of Annie Young Holiday, 6945 Young St., Rembert. Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. in Sumter.

ROSA B. JEFFERSON

Rosa Boykin Jefferson, 82, widow of Louis Jefferson, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Mariner Health Care of Sumter East. Born Dec. 13, 1916, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Martha Wilson Boykin. The family will receive friends at the home, 5135 Borden Road, Rembert. Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc.

HELEN R. KEEHAN

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Helen Roberts Keehan, widow of William F. Keehan and daughter of Frank and Helen Roberts, formerly of Sumter, S.C., died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, in Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Frank Jr. and Kenneth Roberts, both of Winter Haven, Fla. All three were born and reared in Sumter. A memorial service was held Monday in Jacksonville.

William J. McIntyre died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Services will be announced by Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

June Leon Simon, 65, husband of Helen Chandler Simon, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born June 25, 1933, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Allen and Susan Allen Simon. The family will receive friends at the Simon home, 1915 Salterstown Road. Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc.

MINDRED SWEAT SR.

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. — Mindred Sweat Sr., 68, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. Born May 20, 1930, in Clarendon County, S.C., he was the son of Mary Thomas, Route 1, Box 570-B, Paxville, S.C. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Paxville. The family will receive friends through Wednesday at the home, Route 1, Box 570-B, Paxville. Blackwell-Jenkins Funeral Home in Manning is in charge of arrangements.

KYLE WHITE

OLANTA — Kyle White, 20, died this morning, Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born Sept. 12, 1978, in Framingham, Mass., he was a son of Delora White and Jack Jackson. He was reared by his grandmother, Clyelle Heyward. The family will receive friends at the home of his grandmother, Clyelle Heyward, 5610 Narrow Paved Road, in the St. John community of Olanta. Services will be announced by Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home in Lake City.

HELEN F. ALDEN

COLUMBIA — Helen F. Alden, 84, widow of the late Byron Jackson Alden, died Friday, April 23, 1999, at NHC Healthcare in Sumter. Born in Cohose, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late John Stockwicz and Tessie Delicate Stockwicz. She had resided in Columbia since 1987 and had lived in Fort Myers, Fla., before that time. She was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic faith. She was a graduate of the Famous Artist School of Stamford, Conn. Survivors include a daughter, Darleen A. Mader of Sumter; a brother, Henry Stockwicz of Stillwater, N.Y.; two sisters, Vye Gooley of Stillwater, N.Y., and Charlotte Wanko of Schagticoke, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley A. Moon of Columbia. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Greenlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SALLY A. DUBOSE

PINEWOOD — Sally Albert Dubose died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Born May 12, 1932, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Gilbert Dubose and Eliza Pleasant Dubose. Reared in the Sandhill community of Pinewood, he attended Fulton and Pinewood schools. Mr. Dubose was a lifelong member of Zion Hill AME Church. He moved to New York in his 20s and worked as a welder. He returned to South Carolina in 1960 and worked as a welder at Town and Country and farmed until he retired. Survivors include his companion, Lucille James of Pinewood; two sons, Cory James of Pinewood and Timothy Mack of New York; two daughters, Vanessa Mack of New York and Lisa Dubose of Pinewood; seven brothers, Samuel Dubose of Columbia, and Arthur Dubose, Alonza Dubose, Henry Dubose, Matthew Dubose, Moses Dubose and John Henry Dubose, all of Pinewood; eight sisters, Julia H. Pleasant of Pinewood, Francis Boston of Newport News, Va., Dorcus Ridgill of Manning, Susan Brown and Margaret Wright, both of Bronx, N.Y., and Nellie D. Budden, Caroline D. Budden and Rosa Henderson, all of Sumter; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gilbert Smith Dubose, David Dubose and William James Dubose. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Hill AME Church, in the Sandhill community of Pinewood, with the Rev. Albert Thompson, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. James Walker, the Rev. Benjamin Boston and the Rev. Stanley Hayes. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the home of the late Mr. Dubose and Lucille James, Route 1, Box 144, Pinewood, and also at the home of Hazel and Caroline Budden, 571 McCray’s Mill Road, Sumter. Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. in Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

INFANT JOSHUA M. FLYNN

Joshua Michael Flynn, 3-month-old son of Michael James Flynn and Rebecca Ann Pack, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Survivors besides his parents include a sister, Brooklyn Pack; his paternal grandparents, Sidney and Frances Flynn; and his maternal grandparents, Malcolm and Linda Pack, all of Sumter. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. George Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at 3745 Osteen Road. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
