WALTER DAVIS

EAST ORANGE, N.J. — Walter Davis, husband of Jeanette Davis, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, in East Orange. Born Oct. 2, 1924, in Mayesville, he was a son of the late Charlie Davis and Georgianna Cockley Davis. Mr. Davis attended Mayesville Institute in Mayesville and was a member of Ebenezer AME Church prior to moving to East Orange. Survivors besides his wife of East Orange include two brothers, Eugene Davis and Cantfield Davis, both of Mayesville; and three sisters, Mary Louise Eady and Inez Lesane, both of Mayesville, and Catherine Baxter of Lynchburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Felix Davis and Charlie Davis Jr.; and two sisters, Eunice Davis Wells and Helen Wilson. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 3, in East Orange. THEODOCIA EBERHARDY

TheoDocia Eberhardy, 80, wife of Bernard Eberhardy, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Marion S. Josey and TheoDocia Maye Josey. Mrs. Eberhardy was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church. She was a public accountant. Survivors besides her husband of Sumter include two daughters, Patricia Joan Edwards of Sumter and Karen E. Jones of Goose Creek; three stepsons, Bernard Eberhardy Jr. of California, James F. Eberhardy of Clear Lake, Wis., and Mark J. Eberhardy of Clintonville, Wis.; two sisters, Marcella Wongrey of Sumter and Irene Funderburke of Savannah, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father Daniel Carboy C.Ss.R. officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JERMAINE L. GAMBLE

MANNING — Jermaine Lamont “BooBoo” Gamble, 16, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, on the J and E Road, Route 5, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born Dec. 24, 1983, in Miami, Fla., he was a son of Ben Moses and Jeanette Gamble Hilton and the stepson of James Hilton. He was a freshman at Manning High School, where he participated on the football team. Survivors besides his father of Homestead, Fla., and his mother and stepfather of the home in Manning include two brothers, Anthony Gamble and Robert Banks, both of the home; a sister, Shanda Dewberry of the home; and his maternal grandfather, Oscar Briggs of Manning. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie “Little Man” Gamble. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Rock Hill Baptist Church, Old Georgetown Road, Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Leon Winn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers and flower bearers will be schoolmates of Manning High School. The family will receive friends at the home, Route 5, Box 256, J and E Road, Manning. Samuels Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JOHN H. HUDNALL

John Hamlin Hudnall, 86, husband of Lilly Smith Hudnall, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at his home. Born in Alcolu, he was a son of the late Michael Benjamin Hudnall and Annie White Hudnall. Mr. Hudnall was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the N.A.R.F.E. Association. He served as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Air Force Signal Corps Division in Italy during World War II. He was a retired U.S. Postal Service employee. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include a daughter, Kathleen Ozberk and her husband, Engin, of Ontario, Canada; a sister, Clara Waters of Sumter; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Hudnall and the Rev. Ben Hudnall. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Sayre officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home, and at other times at the home, 37-A Althea Circle. Memorials may be made to St. Marks United Methodist Church or Tri-County Hospice, 2650-A Hardee Cove, Sumter, SC 29150. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

PETER L. KLONIS

Peter Louis Klonis, 87, husband of Aliene Vann Tisdale Klonis, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at a local nursing center. Born in New York, he was a son of the late Peter Klonis and Tekla Klonis. Mr. Klonis was a member of Grace Baptist Church. He was a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant with 30 years of service. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include two sons, John C. Klonis of Melbourne, Fla., and Robert L. Klonis of Travelers Rest; a sister, Jane Angeles of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. James Chandler officiating. Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

EMMA W. LONON

Emma W. Lonon, widow of Logan Mack Lonon, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Mariner Healthcare of Sumter East. Born Nov. 23, 1921, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Lucille Wright Smith. Survivors include two sons, Akie Lonon of Sumter and Eddie Lonon of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Angela Marie Johnson of Sumter; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the John W. Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Walker Cemetery. The funeral procession will leave at 12:30 p.m. from the home of her daughter, Marie Johnson, 553 W. Hampton Ave. The family will receive friends at the same home. Williams Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

BESSIE J. PRESTON

Bessie Jones Preston, widow of Johnny Preston, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Mariner Healthcare of Sumter East. Born Dec. 24, 1904, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Suzanne Jones. Mrs. Preston accepted Christ in her youth and joined St. James AME Church, where she served as class leader, senior choir president and a member of the stewardess board. She later joined New Hope Church of our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith and served on the missionary board and as senior choir president. In later years, she joined Grace Cathedral COGIC. Survivors include an adopted son, Julius Preston; a brother-in-law, Leroy Sumpter Sr. of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Nina Jones of Durham, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Hillside Memorial Park with Elder Sammy C. Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at her former residence, 12 Wallace St. Job’s Mortuary Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

GRACE RADCLIFFE

Grace Sutton Radcliffe, 61, wife of Lynn L. Radcliffe, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of Veneda Preast Sutton and the late Heyward S. Sutton. Mrs. Radcliffe was a member of Lemira Presbyterian Church. She was employed by Becton-Dickinson. Survivors besides her husband of Sumter and her mother of Sumter include two sons, Eddie Tedder and Robbie Tedder, both of Sumter; a stepson, Chuck Radcliffe of Sumter; a brother, Larry Sutton of Sumter; a sister, Patricia Livingston of El Paso, Texas ; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Tedder. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Rivers and the Rev. Buddy Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and co-workers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of her mother, 11 Hilliard St. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
