Theresa Hamann McCary, 61, widow of Larry D. McCary, died Thursday, August 14, 2003.
Born in Germany, she was a daughter of Maria Mutzhaus Hamann and the late Adam Hamann.
Mrs. McCary was a member of New Salem Baptist Church and retired from Gold Kist.
Surviving are four sons, Norman Kent Hyde, Jr. of Monroe, N.C., Mark Dennis Hyde of Atlanta, Ga., Matthew Dale Hyde of Hendersonville, N.C. and Michael David Hyde of Spartanburg, S.C.; a sister, Emma Preis of Germany; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Christina Marie Hyde.
Funeral Services will be held at 5 P.M. Sunday at New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Robert N. Rivers officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons of New Salem Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Salem Baptist Church, 2500 W. Oakland Avenue, Sumter, S. C. 29154.

Louis Bates Folley

Louis Bates Folley, Sr., 87, husband of Helen Williford Folley, died Thursday, August 14, 2003 at Covenant Place.
Mr. Folley was an athlete, veteran, businessman, husband, father and gentleman.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Otto Halbert Folley, Sr. and the late Willie Mae Bates Folley.
Mr. Folley was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Presbyterian College and was a U. S. Army-Air Corps World War II veteran. He was inducted into the Sumter Sports Hall of Fame and the Presbyterian College Athletic Hall of Fame. He was retired owner and manager of Sumter Wood Preserving Company.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, Louis Bates Folley, Jr. and wife Martha of Augusta, Ga. and John Arthur “Jack” Folley and wife Cindy of Mt. Pleasant, S. C.; four grandchildren, Paige Folley Christian of Savannah, Ga., Todd Bates Folley and Victoria Nelson Folley both of Augusta, Ga., and John Arthur Folley, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Otto Halbert Folley, Jr.
Graveside services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday in the Sumter Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Edward McLeod officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Saturday at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

Mary Weatherly Derrick

Mary Eleanor Weatherly Derrick, 65,wife of Donald Derrick, died Monday August 18, 2003 at the Summerville Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Archie C. Weatherly and the late Epsie Bradwell Weatherly.
Mrs. Derrick was a member of First Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Sumter Unit #15.
Surviving besides her husband are two brothers, William A. Weatherly and his wife Betty of Sumter, Archie C. Weatherly and his wife Della of California; a sister-in-law Mary Weatherly of Sumter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert A. “Ashleigh” Weatherly.
Graveside services will be held 4 P.M. Thursday at the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Miller officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of her brother Bill Weatherly, 430 West Calhoun St.

Madlyn Bachus Welsh 92, wife of Rowland Murray Welsh, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, she was a daughter of the late Cornelius Wynard Bachus and the late Alice Ann Horlacher Bachus.
Mrs. Welsh was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and a retired beautician.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; a son, Ronald Murray Welsh of Sumter; a daughter, Linda Ann Welsh Lyons of Sumter; a sister, Maxine Steere of Wichita Falls, Texas ; 4 grandchildren, Christia L. Burgess, F. Brent Lyons, Laura Welsh, and Sherry Welsh; and 2 great-grandchildren, Brianna Lyons and Brooke Lyons.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Wynard Bachus.
Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. LaRue Cook and Rev. Ron Richardson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 2354 Addison Drive.

Alma Lola Johnson Avin, 95, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pinewood, she was a daughter of the late Willie Blanding Johnson and the late Rosa Galloway Johnson.
Mrs. Avin was the oldest member of Pinewood Baptist Church and was a member of the Fidellis Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Young At Heart Senior Citizen Club.
Surviving are four sons, Marshall L. “Roy” Avin and wife Lucille of Manning, William LeGrand Avin of Collinsville, Va., Charles “Buddy” Avin and wife Mildred of Pinewood, and Kenneth A. Avin of Sumter; two daughters, Bessie A. McLeod and husband Cody of Pinewood and Joyce A. French of Portage, Pa.; a sister, Ruby Newton of Florida; 69 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Mildred Timmons and Juanita Richmond and 11 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday at Pinewood Baptist Church with Rev. Bennie Barwick officiating.
Burial will be in the Pinewood Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
Great-grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Saturday at the Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of Buddy Avin, 4930 Pinewood Road and at the home of Bessie McLeod, 3910 Cody Road.
