DELMUS KELLEY

Graveside services for Delmus Kelley, 68, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Kellytown Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Anderson officiating, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mr. Kelley died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Jacob Graham and Janie Irene Grantham Kelley. He was a member of Kellytown Baptist Church.

Surviving are his brothers, Frank Kelley of Hartsville, Heyward Kelley of Florence, Robert Kelley of McBee, Jennings Kelley of Lugoff; and sister, Martha K. Benson of Hartsville.

LOUISE J. GOODMAN

CARY, N.C. – A memorial service for Louise J. Goodman, 66, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road in Cary, N.C.

Mrs. Goodman passed away at her home on Thursday, Feb. 14. She was a native of Hartsville and the daughter of the late William C. and Minara Braddock Johnson. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, David and Jill Goodman; granddaughter, Reece Goodman; a sister, Carolyn Norton of Hartsville; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 11 S. Boylan Ave., Raleigh, N.C. 27603.

CEPHAS C. HOWELL

DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Cephas Cole Howell, 80, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Indian Branch Cemetery with Masonic rites.

Mr. Howell died Friday, Feb. 8, in a Darlington nursing home. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Wallace and Pauline Howell. He was a retired farmer, merchant and deputy sheriff. Mr. Howell served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. He was a Shriner, Mason, Jolly Jeepster, charter member of Darlington Moose Lodge, member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of Indian Branch United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Clara Bell Hill Howell of Darlington; one daughter, Marilyn Hare of Lugoff; three grandchildren, Billy Mozingo of Aiken, Bunny Mozingo Kelly and Todd Mozingo, both of Darlington; one brother, Jack Howell of Hartsville; one sister, Ruth Odom of Darlington; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Indian Branch Building Fund, c/o Cecil James, P.O. Box 224, Darlington, SC 29540.

EDNA B. THOMPSON

DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Edna Brewer Thompson, 71, were held at 3:30 p.m in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson died Thursday, Feb. 7, in her residence after an illness. She was born in Fairmont, N.C., the daughter of the late Roy and Mamie Smith Brewer. She was educated in the Florence County schools, was a homemaker and owner of a ceramic shop. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and was a Reach Out Leader and member of the Winsome Sunday School class.

Surviving are her husband, Billy A. Thompson of Darlington; two sons, David Thompson of the home and Gordon (Margie) Thompson of Darlington; two daughters, Terri Foster and Debbie (Glenn) Hanna, both of Darlington; four grandsons, Wayne Thompson, Neel Thompson, Billy Hanna, and Rusty Foster; one great grandchild, Blake Thompson; and two brothers, Charles "Buddy" Brewer of Warner Robbins, Ga., and Earl Brewer of Columbia. Also surviving is a special friend, Annette Baldwin.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by twins, a daughter, Sherry Thompson, and son, Terry Thompson; brothers, Bill Brewer and Bobby Brewer, and sisters, Marie Brewer, Louise McManus and Elizabeth B. Scarborough.

Serving are pallbearers were Rusty Foster, Wayne Thompson, Neel Thompson, J. J. June, Wesley Watford and Jonathan Taylor.

JOHNNIE McNEIL SR.

LAMAR – Johnnie McNeil Sr. died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, after an illness. The family will receive visitations at the residence, 2625 Whipperwill Rd. Hines Funeral Home of Lamar is in charge of all arrangements.

JOHN B. HUTCHINSON

Funeral services for John Blease Hutchinson, 85, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlotte Walters officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mr. Hutchinson died Sunday, Feb. 10. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late John Charles and Ellen Gainey Hutchinson. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Hartsville Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Evelyn Burden Hutchinson of Hartsville; four sisters, Maggie Howle, Katherine Rivers, Lenell Anderson, all of Hartsville, and Louise Pritchard of McBee; two brothers, James Grover and James Luther Hutchinson of Hartsville.

Memorials may be made to the Eastside Christian Academy, 911 East Home Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550.

FANNIE E. SEGARS

SOCIETY HILL – Funeral services for Fannie E. Segars , 73, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at New Hopewell Baptist Church. Burial was in the church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Segars died Saturday, Feb. 2, in Brooklyn, N.Y., after an illness. She was born in Marlboro County, a daughter of the late Willie and Penelope Cokely. She received her education in the New York City Public School System and was employed as a seamstress for many years in the clothing industry. She was a member of Nebo Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y., and on the usher board and choir.

Surviving are five children, Charlene (Joseph) Knight, Cassandra (Leroy) Conyers, Derry (Leslie) Segars, Louella (Desmond) Morris and Carlotta (Dale) Segars-Cunningham; a brother, William Cokely; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

ROBERT W. JACKSON

Robert Wayne Jackson, 60, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at his residence after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

LARRY ELLERBEE

Funeral services for Larry Ellerbee, 49, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial was in St. John United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Ellerbee, died Thursday, Feb. 7, in McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born May 3, 1952, in Darlington County, a son of Robert and Lillie Berta McDonald Ellerbee. He attended St. John United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Lamar High School.

Surviving other than his mother and father, both of Darlington, are his wife, Carolyn Timmons Ellerbee of Hartsville; a son, Larry (Amelia) Ellerbee of Florence; four sisters, Shirley (Aberon) Belin and Lorraine Ellerbee, both of Hartsville, Shelby E. McElveen and Roxie Ellerbee, both of Darlington; three brothers, Johnny (Mae) Ellerbee of Hartsville, Bobby Ellerbee and Leroy (Evan) Ellerbee, both of New York, N.Y.; his paternal grandmother, Sylvia Ellerbee of Greensboro, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

ROSA BELL BENNETT

Mrs. Rosa Bell Bennett died on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends at the residence, 416 Lincoln Ave. Hines Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
