JOHNNY HUNTLEY

DARLINGTON – Graveside services for Johnny Huntley, 73, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Grove Hill Cemetery directed by the Rev. Timothy W. Coker and directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

Mr. Huntley died Thursday, March 28, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, the son of the late William Bryan and Lucy Gardner Huntley. He was a member of Central Baptist Church. Mr. Huntley served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Perfection Gear Company for many years prior to its closing and later retired from ESAB in Florence. He enjoyed playing pool and looked forward to drinking coffee with his friends at Takis Restaurant each morning. Johnny enjoyed cooking and was well known around Darlington for his famous fried turkeys. He loved his family and grandchildren. Johnny enjoyed fishing, especially with his grandson and buddy, Christopher.

Survivors include his wife, Polly J. Huntley of the home; one son, John G. "Skip" (Jenny) Huntley Jr. of Brunswick, Ga.; one daughter, Demetria (Steve) Ehlman of Darlington; one brother, Billy (Anne) Huntley of Greenville; and four grandchildren, Brad, Christopher, Anna-Lauren and Audi.

Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 512 Spring Street, Darlington, SC 29532.

WILLIAM F. SPORTS JR.

DARLINGTON – Funeral services for William Franklin "Bill" Sports Jr., 83, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2002, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Florence Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Sports died Thursday, March 28, at his residence after an illness. A retired S.C.L. Railroad employee, Mr. Sports was born in Darlington County, the son of the late William F. and Lena Daisey Baskins Sports. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was affectionately known as "PaPa" by many people. Mr. Sports was a lifetime member of the Railroad Retirement Club, a lifetime member of Black Oak Hunting Club, and a member of American Legion Post #160. Mr. Sports was also a member of Mechanicsville Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Fannie Belle Munn Sports of the home; a son, Johnnie Wayne (Judy) Sports of Darlington; four grandchildren; Amy (Robin) Taylor, Dawn Sports, Robert (Jessica) Sports and Donna (Gene) Lamb; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Michelle, Wayne, John, Robert Jr., Michael and Shade; a sister, Annie Mae Watford of Darlington; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sports was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Bob Sports; and two sisters, Nettie Cox and Elizabeth Lewis.

Memorials may be made to Mechanicsville Baptist Church, 2401 Cashua Ferry Rd., Darlington, SC 29532.

RUSSELL TODD ADAMS

DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Russell Todd Adams, 26, were held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2002, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Adams died Friday evening, March 29, 2002, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Darlington County, the son of G. Ray and Ernestine Lane Adams. He was employed as a truck driver for NUCO2. Mr. Adams was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed the outdoors.

Surviving in addition to his parents of Darlington are three sisters, Jill A. (Jasen) Hasty and Kristi (Scott) Webb and Brett Adams, all of Darlington; and a nephew, Grayson Webb.

WILLIE JACKSON

LAMAR – Willie Jackson died Monday, April 1, 2002, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after an illness. The family will receive friends at 221 Pearl Street. Hines Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

INFANT HOLLOMAN

Private graveside services for infant Carley Marie Holloman were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Boswell officiated, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Carley died Friday, March 29. She was the daughter of James Allen and Chasity Watford Holloman Jr.

Surviving are her parents of Hartsville; brother, Dakota Holloman of Hartsville; paternal grandparents, Jimmy and Sue Holloman of Hartsville; maternal grandparents, Ricky and Annette Watford of Oates; paternal great-grandmother, Kathryn Holloman of Hartsville; maternal great-grandparents, Willard and Elmer Watford of Lamar.

DANTZLER C. TYNER

COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Dantzler C. "Danny" Tyner, 45, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2002, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Tyner, a nurse at McLeod Regional Medical Center, died Friday, March 29, in Columbia. He was born in Darlington County, the son of the late Eugene and Mildred Mixon Tyner. He graduated from Lamar High School, attended Clemson University, and graduated from Midlands Technical College. Mr. Tyner was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mitch and Rita Tyner and Tim and Cheri Tyner, all of Darlington; a niece, Danielle Tyner and a nephew, Jason Tyner.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 102454, Atlanta, Ga. 30368-2454.

EVA B. MARTIN

DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Eva Blackmon Martin, 87, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002, at the Church of God of Prophecy with interment following in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martin died Friday, March 29, in a Florence hospital. She was born in Darlington County, the daughter of the late W.A. and Ethel Brazell. She was married to the late Claude E. Blackmon and then to the late Daphus Martin. She was a retired textile worker of Camden Cotton Mill and was a member of Church of God of Prophecy.

Surviving are a son, Jimmie (Louise) Blackmon of Darlington; two daughters, Peggy McKenzie of Darlington and Barbara Coe of Hawthorne, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Billy (Peggy) Blackmon; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by a son, Billy Blackmon, and a daughter, Shelby Jean Blackmon.

INFANT ONEAL

Graveside services for Lainie Bell Oneal, infant daughter of Lee Ann Morrison and Bud Oneal, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the New Market Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Surviving are her parents of Hartsville; a brother, Tristan Oneal of Hartsville; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Morrison of Hartsville. Paternal grandparents are Alfred Oneal and the late Mary Bell Oneal; maternal great-grandparents are Vivian Dennis of Darlington and Jessie Woods of Hartsville.
