EDNA E. GLARUM

LAMAR/RALEIGH, N.C. - Graveside services for Edna Earl Glarum, 89, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church Cemetery, conducted by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

Mrs. Glarum, most recently a resident of Outlook Pointe in Raleigh, N.C., and formerly of Capital Towers, also of Raleigh, passed away Sunday, April 7. She was employed by the Wake County Schools as a cafeteria manager for almost 20 years, retiring in 1975.

She is survived by her son, Emil Ray (Amy) Glarum; one brother, Roy Grooms of Timmonsville; two sisters, Martha Moody of Timmonsville and Vivian Searcy of Travelers Rest; and two grandchildren, Sharon and Chris. She was predeceased by her husband, Emil Glarum in 1979.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Alzhemer's Association, Eastern NC Chapter, 400 Oberlin Rd., Raleigh, N.C. 27605.

CAROL F. HUMPHRIES

DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Carol Frances Lambert Humphries, 52, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial followed in Grove Hill Cemetery, conducted by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

Mrs. Humphries died Sunday, April 7, 2002, in a Florence hospital after a sudden illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Cecil Edgar Lambert and Margaret June Clements. She worked at G.E. Medical Systems in Florence for 30 years. Mrs. Humphries enjoyed shopping, crocheting and taking cruises. She was a former member of Epworth United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and attended the First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include her husband, James Henry "Jimmy" Humphries of the home; one son, Christopher James Humphries of Darlington; one daughter, April Michelle (Stephen) Bailey of Darlington; one brother, Franklin Harold (Laura) Lambert of Florence; one sister, Jo Cecile (Ronnie) Sawyer of Darlington and other close family members, including Tommy (Sandy) Humphries and Randy Humphries.

Memorials may be made to First Pentecost Holiness Church, 598 W. Broad St., Darlington, SC 29532.

ROBERT H. COOK SR.

DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Robert H.Cook Sr., 91, were held at 3 p.m on Sunday, April 7, 2002, in the Kistler Chapel. Burial followed in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

Mr. Cook died Friday, April 5, in a local hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County and was the son of the late Louie Chandler and Mildreth Louise Galloway Cook. Mr. Cook was employed with Young's Pecans for several years, as well as Sav-Way in Darlington. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid fan of the Altanta Braves.

Survivors include two sons, Olin F. "Billy" (Anna) Cook Sr. and Clyde Winston (Dianne) Cook, both of Darlington; a daughter, Tobie Ann Reynolds of Darlington; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Cooke of Darlington; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Frances Cook, in 1989; two sons, Raymond A. Cook and Robert H. Cook Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Marie Cook, and a son-in-law, Edward H. "Buck" Reynolds Sr.

IVER H. KLEIN

A memorial service for Iver Hunter Klein was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Dr. Hunter Stokes' home at 2424 Parkland Drive, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Pietila of Central United Methodist Church, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home of Florence.

Mr. Klein died on April 5. He was the son of the late Nicholas C. Klein and Ida Dowling Hunter Klein. He was born in Bamberg County, in October 1910. He was a retired civil engineer.

Mr. Klein is survived by a first cousin, J. Jackson Stokes, MD, of Altanta, Ga., and three second cousins in Florence, Drs. Hunters R. Stokes Sr., J. Howard Stokes Jr. and D. Parker Stokes.

The family requests that memorial gifts be directed to the charity of one's choice.

LA FONDA SELLERS

SOCIETY HILL - Funeral services for La Fonda Renee Sanders Sellers, 30, were held Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at New Hopewell Baptist Church. The Rev. Calvin Daniels officiated with burial in the church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home. Mrs. Sellers died Friday, April 5, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of Jessie and Doretha Sanders. She was a graduate of St. John's High School and was first a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and later joined New Hopewell Baptist Church. She was first employed with Society Hill Health Clinic and later worked with Carolina Bank of Society Hill.

Surviving, other than her father and mother, both of Society Hill, are her husband, Stevie Sellers of Society Hill; a daughter, Ladisha Sellers; two sons, Leon Sellers and Stevie Sellers Jr., all of Society Hill; a sister, Kimbery Hughes of Darlington; her maternal grandmother, Sally Burns of Society Hill; mother and father-in-law, Eddie and Patricia Sellers III of Society Hill; and paternal grandparents, Eddie and Florrie Sellers, also of Society Hill.

EASPHERT PEOPLES

McBEE - Funeral services for Easphert Peoples, 87, were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2002, at Mt. Elon United Methodist Church in Jefferson. The Rev. Joseph Frazier officiated with burial in the church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Peoples died Thursday, April 4, in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late Pat Brown. She received her education in Chesterfield County public schools and was a member of Mt. Elon United Methodist Church, and later she joined Galilee Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Frances Summer and Willene Austion, both of Baltimore, Md.; three sons, James Louie Peoples and Henry (Ricky) Peoples, both of McBee, and Steven Peoples of Hartsville; two sisters, Mary Lee Brown of New York, N.Y., and Blanche Massey of Monroe, N.C.; two brothers, Paul Brown of Jefferson and Ivory Brown of Lexington, N.C.; an aunt, Lenora Brown of Jefferson; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

PHIPHINE THOMAS

LAMAR - Funeral services for Phiphine "Phi" Thomas will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 10, 2002, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles K.Wilson, officiating. Burial will take place in the Sandy Bluff United Methodist Church Cemetery with professional services directed by Hines Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thomas died Saturday, April 6, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Lee County near Bishopville. She was one of five children born to the late Clarence and Mary Jane Reed. She was educated in the Lee County public schools. She was married to Eddie Thomas and together they raised six children. Mrs. Thomas worshipped at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church of Lee County and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her husband, Eddie Thomas; four daughters, Sandra (Ricky) Lucas of Lamar, Amanda Adams, Shirley Reed and Bernetha Reed, all of Hartsville; two sons, Ulysses (Columbia) Adams Jr. of Henderson, N.C. and Henry (Mamie) Reed of Bridgeport, Conn.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

ARTHUR LEE HAMMONDS

DARLINGTON - Arthur Lee Hammonds died Friday, April 5, 2002, in the VA hospital in Columbia after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home. The family is receiving friends at the residence, 124 Reid St., Darlington.

TRANNIE M. WINDHAM

LAMAR - Funeral services for Trannie Mae Freeman Windham, 81, will be held at 4 p.m. today, April 10, 2002, in Lamar Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow in Zion Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel.

Mrs. Windham died Monday morning, April 8, in her residence after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, the daughter of the late Tom and Fannie Windham Freeman. She was a housewife and a member of Lamar Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are her husband, C. W. Windham of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Carolyn) Jones of Lamar and Ms. Wendy Windham of Hartsville; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Tina Windham; one brother, Gerald Freeman of Asheville, N.C.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Windham was preceded in death by a son, Steve Windham, and two sisters, Doris Watford and Grace Knotts.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

LEILA SHELLEY BYRD

DARLINGTON - Graveside funeral services for Leila Shelley Byrd, 91, will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 10, 2002, in Florence Memorial Gardens, directed by Belk Funereal Home.

Mrs. Byrd died Sunday evening, April 7, in her residence after an illness. She was born in Mullins, the daughter of the late Julius and Mary Ann Brown Shelley. She was married to the late Henry Kelly Byrd. Mrs. Byrd was a retired employee of Dixie Cup and a member of Central Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Joe E. (Sue) Byrd of Florence; a daughter, Syble B. (Ted) Sessoms of Darlington; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Fleetwood Locklair of Lamar; and one brother, Curtis Shelley of Kokomo, Ind.

Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by a son, Milton Byrd.
