BRIANNA A. WILLIAMS

DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Brianna Alexis Williams, 8, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, in the Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Swift Creek Cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

Brianna died Thursday, June 6, in a local hospital after an illness. She was born in Florence County and was the daughter of David Wilson Wright Jr. and Amy Michelle Williams.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are one brother, David Ethan Williams of the home; maternal grandparents, Ronnie and Elaine Williams of Darlington, and paternal grandparents, David and Gerthine Wright of Hartsville.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Inc., SC Chapter, 1247 Lake Murray Blvd.; Irmo, SC 29063.

TONDA E. MYERS

Funeral services for Tonda Elaine Huggins Myers, 30, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2002, at Gum Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Gardner officiating. Burial was in the church Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Myers was born in Darlington County, the daughter of John Roy and Judy Elaine Huggins. She was a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church. Tonda had a gift of spending time with and helping people with special needs.

Surviving are her parents of Hartsville; husband, Michael Myers; one son, Andrew Myers; one daughter, Chelsa Elaine Myers, all of Hartsville; one brother, Adam Huggins of Hartsville and father and mother-in-law, Sammy (Myrtle) Myers, also of Hartsville. Memorials may be made to the South Carolina School for Deaf and Blind, 355 Ceder Springs Rd., Spartanburg, S.C. 29302-4699 in memory of Tonda Myers.

JOE D. DOUGLAS

DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Joe D. Douglas, 87, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2002, at Florence Baptist Temple with interment following in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Douglas died Friday, June 7, in a Florence hospital.

Mr. Douglas was born in Fackler, Ala., the son of the late Joe and Rosa Smothers Douglas Sr. He was married to the late Lorena Josey Douglas, and together they cared for more than 100 foster children. He then married Leatha Douglas of Scranton. He retired from Darlington Veneer Mill and the Charlotte Observer. Prior to his illness, Mr. Douglas was a resident of Scranton. He was member of Central Baptist Church before moving his membership to Florence Baptist Temple.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Rosa (Jacob) Hudson of Darlington; two sons, Billy Ray (Dot) Douglas of Marion and Donnie Joe Douglas of Florence; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Jesse Douglas of Florence; step-children, Donald Matthews of Lake City, Genelle Hyman of Scranton, Juanita (J.D.) Player of Lynchburg, Kathleen Cox of Pamplico, Joyce (Gary) Pounder of Oxford, Miss., and Vickie (Denny) Buchannan of Goose Creek.

He was preceded in death by daughters Mary Grimsley and Debra Courtney, brother Willie Douglas, and a sister, Lillie Mae Griggs. Memorials are suggested to your local chapter of the American Heart Association.

JERRY W. LEWIS

PATRICK - Funeral services for Jerry W. 'John' Lewis, 50, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2002, at Brown Springs Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

Mr. Lewis died Friday, June 7. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Maxie Brooks and Ruth Isgett Lewis. He was a retired automobile mechanic and was preceded in death by a brother, James Lewis, and a sister, Anne Dixon.

Survivors are his wife, Elaine Dixon Lewis of the home; one daughter, Sandie Lewis O'Neal of Patrick; two brothers, the Rev. Vernon Lewis and the Rev. William Lewis, both of Hartsville, and also three grandchildren.

BRIEN O. POSTON

Funeral services for Brien Oneal Poston, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Jerusalem Baptist Church. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.

Mr. Poston died Saturday, June 1, in a Fayetteville hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Juanita Johnson Poston and the late Eugene Poston. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and continued his education at Florence-Darlington Technical College in the field of nursing. He worked as a nurse's assistant with Honorage Nursing Home in Florence. Mr. Poston was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to his mother, Juanita Poston, are two brothers, Michael Poston of Detroit, Mich., and Dennis (Annette) Johnson of Hartsville; two sisters, Sandra (Anthony) Hudson and Regina Poston, both of Hartsville; six aunts and one uncle.

MILTON A. THOMPSON

FLORENCE - Funeral services for Milton Archie Thompson, 61, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, in the Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel in Darlington. Entombment followed in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Mr. Thompson died Wednesday, June 5, in a Florence hospital after a sudden illness. He was born in Florence County, a son of the late Archie Milton Thompson and Wilhelmenia Huggins Thompson. He worked for Stone Container for 33 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Stone Container Hunting Club and the N.R.A. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Thompson was an avid outdoorsmen and loved messing with old cars. He enjoyed spending time with this family and was proud of all his grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Martha Louise Watford.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce T. Thompson of the home; one daughter, Pamela Ann (Earl) Parnell of Florence; one son, Milton 'Ricky' Thompson of Florence; three step-daughters, Debra Isgett, Teresa Wilson and Karen Galloway, all of Florence; six grandchildren, Doug, Ann, Amanda, Steven 'Ste Ste', Stephanie and Alex; his best friend, David L. Jeffords.

ETHEL M. SANDERS

SOCIETY HILL - Funeral services for Ethel 'Bunch' Milling Sanders will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 12, 2002, at The Greater Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Byron Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sanders died Saturday, June 8, at her residence after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Willie and Challine Williams Milling. She received her formal education in the Darlington County public schools. She was a member of The Greater Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church where she was advisor of the Beginner's Ushers, advisor for The Young Voices of God Children's Choir, member of the Senior Choir, the Women's Club, the What I Can Club, Missionary Society, secretary of the Deaconess Board and Correspondence Liaison for the church. In the community, she was a member of Triumph Chapter No. 128 Order of The Eastern Star, member of Care South Carolina Board, and Parade Chairperson for the Catfish Festival Committee.

Survivors include her husband, Otis Sanders of the home; two children, Valencia (Keith) Brewington of Bennettsville and Reginald (Judy) Sanders of Hartsville; two step-children, Johnny Sanders of Cheraw and Michael (Linda) Sanders of Bennettsville, and Otis Sanders Jr., who preceded her in death; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Gerline Corbett of Florence, Carrie Lunn of Darlington and Ralpheene (Robert) Gregg of Woodbridge, Va.; two brothers, the Rev. Willie C. (Irene) Milling of Darlington and Arthur (Carolyn) Milling of Woodbridge, Va.; a devoted sister-in-law, Dorothy Joyner of Society Hill; a special daughter, Joycelyn Sanders of Society Hill; and a goddaughter, Almeta (Bobby) Bostic of Darlington; nieces and nephews.

The family is receiving friends at the residence at 620 Church St., Society Hill.

JULIA P. JOHNSON SEYMOUR

Graveside services for Julia P. Johnson Seymour, 94, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Magnolia Cemetery. The Rev. Don Purvis officiated, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Seymour died Tuesday, June 25, 2002. Born in Patrick, she was a daughter of the late William Maston and Ella Rowena Pankey. She was the oldest member of Lakeview Baptist Church and was a resident of Bethea Baptist Home.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde and Jessie Johnson of Hartsville, Ralph and Jolynn Johnson of Cheraw, Aubrey and Janice Johnson of Garden City, Arthur and Ellen Johnson of Lugoff, James Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bobby and Marie Johnson of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter, Betty Baker of Orangeburg; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by Arthur W. Johnson, the Rev. James A. Seymour, and a grandson, Billy Johnson.
