DAVID KELLEY
Funeral services for Mr. David Kelley were held on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at 4 p.m. at St. John United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. Kelley died on Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning. He was born in the farming community of Darlington County, one of eight children of the late Heyward and Merchentile Littles Kelley. He was a farmer for most of his life and later he was employed with the Hartsville Fertilizer Mill and later with the Hartsville Oil Mill where he worked faithfully and retired after 25 years. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife; Mamie Kelley of the home; three daughters, Patricia (Jessie) McCall, Dale (Robert) Arthur and Teresa Hardaway, all of Hartsville; three sons, David (Betty) Kelley Jr. of Biloxi, Miss., Phillip (Johnnie Mae) Kelley of Darlington, and Dyrall Kelley of Columbia; 19 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
KATHERINE KALE
Funeral services for Katherine Frye Kale, 91, were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at the Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Bob Cline officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kale, widow of Allen Kale, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002. Born in Carthage, N.C., she was a daughter of the late John Ashley and Katherine Jackson Frye. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Deborah Sunday School class and the Current Missions Circle.
Surviving are her brother, Robert Edward Frye of McLean, Va.; sister, Mary Ruth Boroughs of Asheboro, N.C.; step–granddaughter, Kathy Kale Crawley of Hartsville; step–great–grandchildren, Kale Byerly and Cole Crawley; 25 nieces and nephews.
MAMIE B. WILSON
Funeral services for Mamie Bishop Wilson, 94, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Aug. 28, 2002, at Jerusalem Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wilson died Sunday, Aug. 25. She was born April 8, 1908, in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Horace E. and Jennig Goodson Bishop. She received her education in the public schools of Darlington County. Mrs. Bishop was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, the Missionary Society Circle No. 2 and was retired from Byerly Hospital.
Surviving are three daughters, Rachael C. Dixon of Darlington, Mamie E. Vernon and Carolyn E. Wilson–Snell, both of Hartsville; two sons, Johnnie Wilson Jr. of Baltimore, Md., and Samuel E. Wilson of Queens, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren, a host of great–grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
LEROY VENSON
BALTIMORE, Md. — Funeral services for Leroy Venson, 76, formerly of Hartsville, were held Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2002, at St. Joseph Free Will Baptist Church in Baltimore, Md., with burial in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, directed by March Funeral Home.
Mr. Venson died Wednesday, Aug. 21, after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of late Raymond and Lela Venson. He received his education in the public schools of Darlington County and was baptized and joined Green Hill Baptist Church. After several years in the U.S. Army, he moved to Baltimore, Md., and was with Bethlehem Steel Co. from which he retired. In later years he joined St. Joseph Free Will Baptist Church where he was a deacon of the church, a member of the male chorus and an active member of the James Armstrong United Male Chorus in Fellowship.
Surviving are two daughters, Lillie of Connecticut and Roberta of Baltimore; adopted daughter, Joanne Baxter; four sisters, Reatha Samuels of Connecticut, Lela Baxter and Ruby Fisher, both of Baltimore, and Inez Mack of Hartsville; two brothers, Willie of Maryland and Raymond Jr. of Connecticut; and 12 grandchildren.

EUNICE G. SIMS
JAMAICA, N.Y. — Eunice Gainey Sims, 65, formerly of Society Hill, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in a New York hospital after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
BILLIE JEAN BLACKMON
Funeral services for Billie Jean Howle Blackmon, 53, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Swift Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Howard Allen and Peter Rivera will officiate with burial in Swift Creek Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening, Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Blackmon died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002. Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of Jean Henderson Howle and the late William Howle. She was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church, a graduate of the University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina Law School. She was a former public defender and was an assistant solicitor. At the time of her death she was in private practice.
Surviving are her husband, Wallace Leslie Blackmon Jr. of Hartsville; step–daughter, Katie Blackmon of Greenville; mother of Darlington; sister, Ann Easterling of Darlington; brother, Danny Howle of Darlington. She was preceded in death by her brothers, David and Michael Howle.

ALFRED J. LEUCHT
McBEE — Funeral services for Alfred Joseph Leucht, 73, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ed Griggs will officiate with burial in St. Paul's United Methodist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening, Friday, Aug. 30, from 6–8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Leucht died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002. Born in Worcester, Mass., he was a son of the late Alfred R. and Celina Waring Leucht. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and in WWII.
Surviving are his wife, Faye Gainey Leucht of McBee; sisters, Millicent E. Primeau of Worcester, Mass., Dorothy P. Hoffner of North Eastham, Mass.
HERBERT WHITE

Mr. Player died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Emory Olin and Carrie McElveen Player Sr. He attended Hartsville High School and Palmer College. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, Moose Lodge No. 1770 and Hartsville Masonic Lodge No. 173. He served in the U. S. Air Force. He was a barber since 1960 and was retired from Daniel Construction Co.
Surviving are his son, Michael Player of Augusta, Ga.; daughters and sons–in–law, Karen and David Baynham and Lynn and Dwayne Miller, all of North Augusta, Ga., Debbie and Rick Maybee of Evans, Ga., Linda Player of Odgen, Vt.; brother, Terrell Player of Hartsville; sister, Norma Lee Howle of Ridgeway; and five grandchildren.
MINNIE BRADDOCK

Mrs. Braddock, widow of James William Braddock, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Annie Lee Braddock King. She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church and retired from the Hartsville Cotton Mill.
Surviving are her son and daughter–in–law, Lex and Nellie Braddock of Columbia; daughter and son–in–law, Evelyn B. and E. J. Dixon of Hartsville; sisters and brother–in–law, Mary K. and Frank Crowley of Hartsville, Nancy K. Blackmon of Hartsville; seven grandchildren; and 12 great–grandchildren.
