CINDY BECKHAM

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Cynthia “Cindy” Rose Bekham, 51, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at First Church of God with interment following in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Beckham died Thursday, Sept. 5. She was born in Florence County, daughter of Hazel Suggs Rose and the late Robert Rose. She was a 1970 graduate of St. John's High School, a housewife and member of Central Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Robert J. “Bobby” Beckham Jr.; her son, Robbie Beckham; her daughter, Brittney Beckham; also three brothers, Bobby Rose, Denny Rose, both of Darlington, and Ben Rose of North Myrtle Beach.

Memorials are suggested to the Beckham Children Education Fund, c/o Darlington County Bank, PO Box 502, Darlington, SC 29540.

NANCY FAYE TEAL

WADESBORO, N.C. — Funeral services for Nancy Faye Tolson Teal, 52, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at Browns Spring Baptist Church in Patrick with interment in the church Cemetery, directed by Miller–Rivers–Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield.

Mrs. Teal died Thursday, Sept. 5. She was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late Boyd Murphy and Ada Etheleen Winburn Tolson. She was an employee of Anson Shirt and a former employee of Unity Knitting Mill. Mrs. Teal was preceded in death by a brother, Boyd Thomas Tolson, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Byrd.

Surviving are her husband, Luther Wayne Teal of the home; two sons, Toby Teal of Patrick and Kelly Eugene Teal of Wadesboro, N.C.; two daughters, Kerry T. (Dale) Gibson of Chesterfield and Angela Teal and friend Jody Jones of Hartsville; one grandson, Devon Devoid Gibson of Chesterfield; and one sister, Ann T. Lawrence of Hartsville.

JIMMIE BLACKWELL

McBEE — Funeral services for Jimmie Reddy Blackwell, 93, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, in the chapel of Norton Funeral Home in Hartsville with the Rev. Charlie Short officiating. Burial was in the Union United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Blackwell died on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002. She was born in South Carolina, a daughter of the late James and Blanche Jones Reddy. She was a member of Union United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Louise Anderson of Ft. Washington , Md., and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. (Buck) Miller.

Memorials may be made to the Union United Methodist Church, 4273 Union Church Road, McBee, SC 29101.

ALLEANE M. LEWIS

DARLINGTON — Graveside services for Alleane McQueen Lewis, 80, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at Mechanicsville Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Pastor Frankie Tanner and directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lewis died Thursday, Sept. 5, in a local nursing home. She was born in Robeson County, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Olin and Mamie Sessoms McQueen. She was a member of Mechanicsville Baptist Church. Mrs. Lewis worked for a number of years at B.C. Moore's as a sales clerk.

Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by two brothers, S. J. McQueen and Marvin McQueen, and one sister, Gladys Hayes.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest Lewis of Darlington; one brother, Chester (Mary) McQueen of Darlington, and one sister, Ruby McQueen Isgett of Darlington.

ANN NEWSOM

BISHOPVILLE — Private funeral services for Ann Elizabeth Newsom, 58, will be held by the family. Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to the Lee County Humane Society.

Mrs. Newsom died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Ira B. and Elma Stokes Newsom.

Surviving are her sister, Carolyn Sue Benton of Ft. Myers, Fla.; brother, Richard Newsom of Charlotte, N.C.; nieces, Nikki Seybold and Suzanne Newsom.

OTIS BEATY

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Otis “O.B.” Beaty were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Tabernacle Holiness Church with Bishop C. L. Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Faith Memorial Gardens directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.

Mr. Beaty died Monday, Sept. 9, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Boykin and Lucinda Bonaparte Beaty. He attended the Darlington County public schools. At an early age he joined New Hopewell Baptist Church. Years later he joined Tabernacle Holiness Church. He worked for 23 years as an orderly at Southland Hospital, then he was a taxi cab driver until his health declined.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Ross Beaty of the home; 10 children, Luvenia (Freeman) Goodson, Levern (Phillys) Black, Lillie Mae (Jerome) Adams, Henry (Mary Lee) Ross, Shirley (Willie) Love, Otis Beaty Jr., Debra Beaty, Mary (Rodney) Robinson, all of Darlington, Sammie Lee (Barbara) Beaty of Hackensack, N.Y., and Mary Ann Johnson of New York; two brothers Isaiah Beaty and Willie Joe Beaty, both of Darlington; a sister, Lucille Sims of Hartsville; 25 grandchildren; and 22 great–grandchildren.

CARROLL B. DAVIS

ELGIN — Funeral services for Carroll Brock Davis, 62, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at North Trenholm Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Paul Ballard. Interment followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park Northeast, Elgin. Memorials may be made to the “Pathway to Faithfulness” Building Fund of North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 N. Trenholm Rd., Columbia, SC 29206, or the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210. Greenlawn Funeral Home was in charge.

Mr. Davis died Tuesday, Sept. 10. Born June 26, 1940, in Hartsville, he was the son of Madeline Brock Davis and the late John Mangum Davis. He was a member of the M. J. Brady Sunday School Class of Trenholm Baptist Church and was an insurance representative with United Insurance Co. of America.

Survivors include his mother of Hartsville; his wife, Dianne Smith Davis of Elgin; daughter, Stephanie (Kevin) Hiers of Crestview, Fla.; a son, Christopher Davis of Elgin; and a brother, Martin Davis of Hartsville.

JAMES B. BRADLEY

Funeral services for James Burlington Bradley, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 13, 2002 at Jerusalem Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Bradley died Sunday, Sept. 8. He was born in Lee County, a son of the late James and Mariah Bradley. After attending Darlington County public schools, he entered the U.S. Army where he served four years during World War II. After his military service, he returned to Darlington County and entered Morris College where he earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and gifted skills. With a high interest in teaching, he worked and encouraged many students to study the sciences. The majority of his teaching career was in the Allendale County School System where he retired after 37 years of service.

After retiring, he returned to Darlington County where he became a very faithful servant and lifelong member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and leader in the church, and worked tirelessly for nearly 17 years as the Sunday school superintendent with a desire to raise participation levels in the church's school program. He also worked as a member of the Church Board, the Men's Club, various community projects and supported many programs to fund Morris College scholarships.

Mr. Bradley was married to the late Pearline Breland Bradley for 51 years.

Surviving are three children, James Winard Bradley (late Glenda) of North Myrtle Beach, Lindell Anthony (Linda) Bradley of Fairfax, Va., and Diane Bradley (Hubert) Smart of Stewartsville, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Damon (Patricia) Karen, (Lewis Pfister), Lindell Jr., Kelcey, James, Ashli, Jessica and Susai; a special nephew, Ernest (Frances) Bradley and a host of nieces, nephews, brothers–law, cousins, and other relatives.
