ABBEVILLE — Myrtle Sorrow McCurry, 98, formerly of 120 Hodge St., widow of Eugene Wesley McCurry, died Aug. 9, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Oglethorpe, Ga., she was a daughter of the late George and Susie Sorrow. She was a retired textile employee of Abbeville Mills and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Eugene W. McCurry Jr. of Abbeville; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 Friday in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Darrin Hook.
Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church.
Harris Funeral Home is in charge.

Alma H. Prescott

EDGEFIELD — Alma Hammond Prescott, 85, Aug. 9, 2000, in Augusta, Ga.
Born in Edgefield County, she was a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Hammond Prescott of North Augusta; two daughters, Judy Grubbs of North Augusta and Virginia Yonce of Johnston; a sister, Elizabeth Peeler of Edgefield; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, with burial in Eastview Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at 20 Fox Creek Drive, North Augusta.

Robert ‘Bill’ White Jr.

CLINTON — Robert “Bill” Samuel White Jr., 75, of Route 1, Box 1066, Little Acre Road, husband of Ellen Harrison White, died Aug. 8, 2000.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Samuel Robert and Carrie Brewer White. He retired from Clinton Mills.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert White and Darrell White, both of Clinton; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Friday at Gray Funeral home, with burial in Rosemont Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Laurens County, P.O. Box 178, Clinton, S.C. 29325.
Gray Funeral Home is in charge.

Eva Blanchett

ABBEVILLE — Eva ‘Pansy’ Nixon Blanchett, 93, of 320 Mill St., widow of Clyde D. Blanchett, died August 11, 2000, at Abbeville County Hospital.
Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Lonzo and Etta Powell Nixon. She was a retired textile employee from Abbeville Mills and Shirt Plant. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Clyde W. Blanchett of Abbeville; a sister, Barbara Hubbard of Easley; and 14 grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 today at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville, conducted by Rev. Darrin Hook. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery.
The family is at the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Blanchett, 857 Old Calhoun Falls Road, Abbeville.
Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 100 E. Greenwood St., Abbeville, SC 29620.

Phillip 'S.P.' Callaham

BRADLEY — Phillip “S.P.” Callaham, 74, of 5236 McCormick Hwy., husband of Ethel Williams Woolridge Callaham, died August 12, 2000, at his home.
Born in Willington, S.C., he was the son of Reccie Simmons Callaham and the late James Callaham. He was a member of Tranquil AME Church. He was a World War II Veteran and a retired employee of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forestry, Bradley Division.
Survivors include his mother of Bradley; his wife of the home; four sons, Willie Lee Wideman and Phillip Callaham, both of McCormick, Jammie Lee Callaham of Cokesbury and Charles H. Williams of Bradley; thirteen daughters, Annell Chamberlain, Ruby Pearl Drennon, Jannie Dorn, Carolyn Sibert Phelps, Eppie Louise Lockhart, Willie Mae Hackett, Alice Geneva McKee and Annie Pearl Woolridge, all of Greenwood, Mary Ella Callaham of New York City, Janie Mae Ervin of Tenn., Maggalean Lomax of McCormick, Addie Mae Williams of the home and Liza Ann Woolridge of Bradley; two sisters, Doris Tolbert of Bradley and Ella Jean Ware of McCormick; 39 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Tranquil AME Church, conducted by Rev. Derrick Scott. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
Flower bearers will be the granddaughters.
Visitation will be Monday evening at the home.
Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc. is in charge.

LaQuincy Miller

GREENWOOD — LaQuincy D. Miller, 25, of D2 Foxfield Apts., died August 12, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Herbert and Deloris White Miller. He was a student at Piedmont Technical College and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother and father of Greenville; two daughters, Shekema Smith and Britiany Miller, both of Greenwood; a brother, Contourious Miller of Greenwood; and a maternal grandfather, Leroy White of Greenwood.
The family is at the home of an aunt, Karen White, 3523 Ridge Road, Hodges.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins, which is in charge.

Mary Emma Ross

LAURENS — Mary Emma Ross, 90, formerly of 514 Hackett St., died August 12, 2000, at LaForrest Community Residence, Laurens.
Born in Greenwood County, she was the daughter of the late John Lewis and Mary Williams Ross. She was a retired domestic worker and a member of the Second Damascus Baptist Church.
The family is at the home of a cousin, Carrye Mae Ross of 518 Marion Ave.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Woodrow W. White

ANDERSON — Woodrow Wilson White, 88, of 2923 Mountain View Road, widower of Lena Powell White, died August 12, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, he was the son the late Mr. and Mrs. John M. White. He was retired in textiles and a member of Homeland Park Church of God.
Survivors include three sons, Eugene H. White, Jimmy A. White and Ron D. White, all of Anderson; three daughters, Doris W. Rash, Evelyn W. Williamson, both of Anderson and Carolyn W. Hannah of Greenwood; five brothers, a sister, Ola Lee Webb of Anderson; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 3 Monday at Homeland Park Church of God, conducted by Revs. Milton Hannah and Billy Gillard. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 Monday.
Visitation is from 4-6 today at The McDougald Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of daughter, Evelyn W. Williamson, 108 Pine Forest Drive, Anderson.

Lucretia N. Adams

SILVERSTREET — Lucretia Neal Adams, 79, formerly of 148 Abrams St., widow of Frank Y. Adams, died Aug. 13, 2000, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late John Eddie and Mary Ella Griffith Neal. Se was a retired business agent for Amalgamated Clothing Workers and a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church and the WELCA. She was a charter member of Silverstreet High School Alumni Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Barry (Lisa) Richardson of Pomaria; two sisters, Mrs. Bill (Carrie Lee) Suber of Newberry and Mrs. Wilson (Mary) Cleland of Clinton; a brother, Ellerbe Neal of Clemson; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3 Tuesday in Silverstreet Lutheran Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert E. McCollum.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richardson, 1680 Koon Trestle Road, Pomaria.

Robert Buffington Jr.

GREENWOOD — Robert Samuel “Bob” Buffington Jr., 71, of 2220 Montague Ave., husband of Ruth Cogdill Buffington, died Aug. 12, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Robert S. Buffington Sr. and Olive Rauton Buffington. He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict and retired from Seaboard Coastline Railroad. He was a driver for Piedmont Agency on Aging. He was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church, The God Prospectors Club of America and the Good Sam Club.
Survivors include his wife of the home; five daughters, Karen Ritter, Dessie Stevens and Sylvia Thompson, all of Greenwood, Darlene Vaughn of Honea Path and Sadie Smith of Abbeville; a son, Paul Edward Thompson of Greenwood; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3 today in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Dave Patterson.
Honorary escorts are grandchildren.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Dessie Stevens, Barkwood Subdivision, Calhoun Road East, Lot 44.
