James A. Wilder

CULLMAN, Ala. — James A. Wilder, 70, of 2149 Second Ave. S.W., husband of Bernice Kirk Wilder, passed away Aug. 17, 2000.
Born in Greenville, S.C., he was a son of the late James E. Wilder. He was an Army and Air Force veteran and a commercial trucking broker.
Survivors include his wife of Greenville; a son, Mike Wilder of Easley, S.C.; a brother, Clifton J. Wilder of Taylors, S.C.; three sisters, Irene Smith of Alabama, Barbara Gray of Florida and Sarah Losh of Waterloo, S.C.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be announced by The Wood Mortuary, Greer, S.C., which is in charge.

Bessie Lee Aiken

DONALDS — Bessie Lee Davis Aiken, 78, of Route 2, Box 507, Mount Lebanon Road, widow of Richard Calvin Aiken, passed away Aug. 19, 2000, at her home.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Brown and Mary Aiken Davis. She was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Abbeville County.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond Aiken of Iva and Melton Aiken of Donalds; a daughter, Mentha Lee Aiken Smith of Donalds; a sister, Mary Davis Aiken of Abbeville; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Wednesday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Richard Harkness and the Rev. Jerry Aiken. Burial will be in Mount Zion AME Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers are grandsons.
Flower bearers are nieces and grandchildren.
Visitation is Tuesday evening at the home.
Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood, is in charge.

Rebecca Cockrell

GREENWOOD — Rebecca Ouzts “Becky” Cockrell, 60, of 1510 E. Scotch Cross Road, wife of Tom P. Cockrell, passed away Aug. 20, 2000, at her home.
Visitation is from 7-9 Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Charles E. Farr

LOWNDESVILLE — Charles Edward Farr, 47, passed away Aug. 19, 2000.
He was a graduate of T.L. Hanna High School and a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a brother, John F. Farr Jr. of Anderson.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. today in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family is at the home of John F. and Evelyn Farr Jr., 1020 Brookhollow Road, Anderson.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, Heritage Fund, 515 S. McDuffie St., Anderson, S.C. 29624.
The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson, was in charge.

Helen Hill

GREENWOOD — Helen Scoggins Hill, 67, of 204 Augusta Circle, wife of James T. “Tom” Hill, passed away Aug. 20, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late William Albert and Sadie Rowe Scoggins. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Greenwood College of Commerce. She was a former secretary with Mathews, Mount Lebanon, Tranquil, Galloway and Kinards United Methodist churches. A charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, she served as church historian, a teacher in the Ladies Bible Class and was a member of the UMW. She was also a former Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, James E. Hill of Florence and W. Steven Hill of Spartanburg; a sister, Mrs. Troy (Barbara) Hudgens of Greenwood; two brothers, John R. Scoggins of Brookline, N.H., and Victor E. Scoggins of Greenwood; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 3:30 Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Steven Todd and the Rev. John G. Hipp. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Ken Bisek, John McCray, Grady Bearden, Bobby Jones, Buddy Gatlin, Jim Lambeth, Billy Ginn and James Rowland.
Visitation is from 2-3:30 Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home in Augusta Fields.

Harriet H. Marshall

ANDERSON — Harriet Ann Horton Marshall, 76, of 1209 Stonehurst Drive, wife of John McCall Marshall, passed away Aug. 15, 2000.
Born in Belton, she was a daughter of the late John Aiken and EmMae Tate Horton. She graduated from Greenville Women’s College in 1946 and retired from Varennes Elementary School in Anderson. She also taught at Woodfields Elementary School in Greenwood. She was a past treasurer of Colonial Dames of the 17th Century.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Clinton (Martha) Taylor of Anderson; two brothers, J. Wright Horton of Greenville and John A. Horton of Durham, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
Private graveside services were held Saturday in Magnolia Cemetery, Greenwood, with the Rev. Ken Timmerman officiating.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, S.C. 29621.
Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, was in charge.

Mildred Strickland

HONEA PATH — Minnie Mildred Brooks Strickland, 85, of 18 Polly St., widow of John Otto Strickland, passed away Aug. 20, 2000, at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in Wilkes County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late James Luke and Minnie Lou Little Brooks. She was a charter member of Austin Road Baptist Church and a member and Past Worthy Matron of Honea Path Chapter 159, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Tildon Strickland of Honea Path; two daughters, Gayle McClellan of Honea Path and Betty Evans of Greenwood; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4:30 Tuesday at Austin Road Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Joe Thomas and Mr. Rickey{* cq *} Evans. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Pruitt Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Austin Road Baptist Church, 1619 Austin Road, Honea Path, S.C. 29654.

Patricia White

ANDALUSIA, Ala. — Patricia Eversfield White, 85, of 405 Henderson St., formerly of Greenwood, S.C., passed away Aug. 19, 2000, at an Andalusia hospital.
Born in Birmingham, she was a daughter of the late Eugene D. and Norma Hebbelyn Mays. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Andalusia.
Cryptside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Edgewood Memorial Mausoleum, Greenwood, conducted by Dr. John Livingston. The body will be placed in the mausoleum at 10:30.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, is in charge.

James Delford Williams

NINETY SIX — James Delford Williams, 74, formerly of 110 Joseph Road, passed away Aug. 19, 2000, at Magnolia Manor in Greenwood.
The family is at the home of Bessie Mae Louden, 115 Edgewood Circle, Ninety Six.
Services will be announced by Daniel and Sons Funeral Service, which is in charge..

Joe Willis

WATERLOO — Joe Dickson Willis, 41, of 241 Ridgewood Harbor, husband of Patti Lowe Willis, passed away Aug. 19, 2000.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of Billy Frank Willis Sr. and Jo Ann Dickson Willis. He graduated from Calhoun Falls High School and Lander University, Greenwood. He was operations manager for Ware Shoals Industries and a member of Coronaca Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his parents of Calhoun Falls; a daughter, Ashlea Marlene Willis of the home; and a brother, Billy Willis Jr. of Abbeville.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Coronaca Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Tester. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Lowe, 118 Kirby Lowe Drive, Waterloo.
Memorials may be made to Coronaca Baptist Church, 300 Highway 246 North, Greenwood, S.C. 29646.
