James ‘Big Bubba’ Williams

NINETY SIX — James Delford “Big Bubba” Williams, 74, formerly of 110 Joseph Road, passed away Aug. 19, 2000, at Magnolia Manor in Greenwood.
Born in Ninety Six, he was a son of the late Devigor Williams Sr. and Alice Davis Williams. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Ninety Six.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Mae Louden of Ninety Six and Mrs. Ethel Turner of Orangeburg.
Services will be at 2 Wednesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James W. Price, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Joseph Caldwell. Burial will be in Ninety Six Community Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Flower bearers are nieces.
Visitation is at the home of Bessie Mae Louden, 115 Edgewood Circle, Ninety Six. The family will also receive friends at the church social hall after the services.
Daniel and Sons Funeral Service is in charge.

Joseph W. Barden

NORTH AUGUSTA — Joseph Woodrow “Red” Barden, 83, husband of Edith Hughey Barden, passed away Aug. 22, 2000.
Born in McCormick, he was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta, where he was a deacon and usher. He was also secretary/treasurer for T.J. Lyon Bible Class and a member of Acacia Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John Randolph Barden; a daughter, Beverly Barden Castellano; three sisters, Daline Barden Augeri, Janette Barden Martin and Harriett Barden Dunagan; and a grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Old Sanctuary, First Baptist Church of North Augusta, with burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Rowland Funeral Home.
Rowland Funeral Home is in charge.

Nora B. Brown

WARD — Nora Lee Bartley Brown, 80, of Route 1, Richland Springs Community, widow of Lamar W. Brown, passed away Aug. 22, 2000, at Lexington Medical Center.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Beulah Trotter Bartley. She was a homemaker and a member of Richland Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheri Lee Hall of Ward; two stepsons, Larry Brown of Stephens, Ga., and Jerry Brown of Washington ; five sisters, Katie Jacobs and Catherine Feaster, both of West Columbia, Estelle Rodgers and Jessie Long, both of Ward and Sarah Adams of Saluda; three brothers, Sam Bartley of Ward, Robert Bartley of Johnston and Henry Bartley of Satellite Beach, Fla.; and a grandson.
Services will be at 2 Thursday at Ramey Funeral Home, Saluda, conducted by the Rev. Steve Jones. Burial will be in Good Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Allison Hall Saluda High School Marching Band Memorial Fund, 400 W. Butler Ave., Saluda, S.C. 29138.

Wilbur Brown

GREENWOOD — Wilbur Kenneth Brown, 78, of 113 Stoker Road, husband of Bernice Still McDowell Brown, passed away Aug. 22, 2000, at his home.
Born in Chuckey, Tenn., he was a son of the late Jessie and Mollie Marshall Brown. He retired from Western Union and was a World War II Army veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church and attended Pine Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Kenneth M. Brown of Monroe, N.C., and Gary L. Brown of Harrington, Pa.; three stepsons, Roger McDowell of Ninety Six, Billy McDowell of Greenwood and Clyde McDowell of Hartwell, Ga.; six sisters, Bertrum Collette and Jewell White, both of Stephens City, Va., Thelma Queen of Afton, Tenn., Helen White of Woodstock, Va., Jean Griffith of Malvern, Pa., and Nell Stittler of Honeybrook, Pa.; three brothers, Jack Brown and Hartsell Brown, both of Stephens City, and Herbert Brown of Strasberg, Va.; six grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Thursday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Barry Butler. Burial will be at 4 Friday in Green Hill Cemetery, Buena Vista, Va.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

James O. Cade

CALHOUN FALLS — James Odell Cade, 59, of 221 Seneca Circle, husband of Bobbie Mae Belcher Cade, passed away Aug. 22, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Mount Carmel, he was a son of the late Charlie and Hattie Anderson Cade. He was a retired employee of Westpoint Pepperell Textile Plant, Calhoun Falls, and a member of Glovers AME Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Barbara Ann Cade of Calhoun Falls; two sons, James F. Cade and Jackie H. Cade, both of Calhoun Falls; two sisters, Roxie A. Little of Calhoun Falls and Cecille Sloan of Washington , D.C.; a brother, Charlie Cade Jr. of Calhoun Falls; and four grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Friendly Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Leonard 'Boom' Carter Jr.

GREENVILLE — Leonard “Boom” Carter Jr., 28, of 105 Cavalier Drive, passed away Aug. 18, 2000, in Greenville County.
Born in Greenwood, he was son of Leonard Carter Sr. and Lucille Carter. He was employed by J & J Barber Shop in Greenville and was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church, Greenwood, and Matrix Motorcycle Club.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Robert Carter, of Piedmont; his father of Greenwood; three sisters, Ponda Watford of Charleston and Bridgette Carter and Sharon Carter, both of Greenwood; two brothers, Leonard “Precious” T. Carter of Greenwood and Rayfany Carter of Greenville; and a grandmother, Sallie Dunlap of Greenwood.
Services will be at 1 Thursday at Morris Chapel Baptist Church, with burial in Evening Star Memorial Gardens, both in Greenwood.
The family is at the home of Robert and Lucille Carter, 207 Kennedy Lane, Piedmont.
S.C. Franks Chapel of Remembrance, Greenville, is in charge.

J. Walter Davis

GRAY COURT — James Walter Davis, 79, of 98 Old Highway 76, husband of Janie Lou Knight Davis, passed away Aug. 22, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Fate and Cleo Darby Davis. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired supervisor with Asten Press Inc. of Clinton. He was a member of Friendship Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder, a deacon, a Sunday school superintendent and a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, James Todd Davis of Inman; and a brother, Roy Davis of Ware Shoals.
Services will be at 4 Friday at Friendship Presbyterian Church, Laurens, conducted by the Rev. Reuben Wallace and Earl Eckerson. Burial, with military honors, will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 Thursday at Kennedy Mortuary.
The family is at the home.

Mary P. Kennedy

WATERLOO — Mary Poole Kennedy, 71, of 294 Rest Road, formerly of Beattie Street, widow of Landrum W. Kennedy, passed away Aug. 21, 2000, at her home.
Born in Cherokee County, she was a daughter of the late John Martindale and Janie Riddle Poole. She attended New Beginnings Baptist Church of Waterloo and retired from Laurens Glass Corp.
Survivors include two sons, James D. Kennedy and Landrum T. Kennedy, both of Laurens; a daughter, Rhonda J. Childs of Waterloo; two brothers, Jesse Lee Poole of Gray Court and Carl Poole of Laurens; four sisters, Carrie Lou Fuller and Permila Cannady, both of Laurens, Lib Riddle of Gray Court and Ethel Beasley of Wetumka, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 Thursday at New Beginnings Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jack E. King Sr. and the Rev. John Abrams. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The body is at the home of her daughter, 294 Rest Road, Waterloo, where visitation will be from 7-9 tonight.
Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Matthew H. Shealy Jr.

LEXINGTON — Matthew Harold Shealy Jr., 75, husband of Sandra W. Shealy, passed away Aug. 22, 2000.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Matthew Harold and Debbie Ann Snelgrove Shealy. He was a Mason and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Woodman of the World. He was the retired owner and operator of Shealy’s Phillips 66.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lonnie Welch Shealy and Melvin Welch Shealy, both of Lexington; and two sisters, Mildred Durden of Lexington and Dot Collum of Batesburg.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Barr-Price Funeral Home, with burial in Woodridge Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 10-11 Thursday at the funeral home.
