Charlie Walker

WARE SHOALS — Charlie A. Walker, 84, of 15 Honea Path St., widower of Audie Fisher Walker, passed away Aug. 22, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Iva, he was a son of the late Perry and Emma Adams Walker. He was a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church and a retired employee of Riegel Textile Corp.
He was the last member of his immediate family. Survivors include a grandson and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Leon Jones and the Rev. Robert Emory.
Visitation is at the graveside after the service.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Christina Blanchett

ABBEVILLE — Christina Willis Blanchett, 92, formerly of 405 Byrnes Ave., widow of Glenn Blanchett, passed away Aug. 23, 2000, at Anna Maria Nursing Home in North Augusta.
Born in Troy, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Melrose Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Alvin Hodges.
Visitation is from 7-8 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hedden, 235 Wilton Road, Abbeville.
Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1007, Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

Ruben Bowie Sr.

CALHOUN FALLS — Ruben Bowie Sr., 67, of 102 Florence St., husband of Melvene E. Bowie, passed away Aug. 23, 2000, in Hodges.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Andrew and Mamie Thomas Bowie. He was a laborer and a member of St. Paul AME Church, Abbeville.
Survivors include his wife of the home; seven daughters, Derlene Coleman and Dorothy Rapley, both of Abbeville, Geraldine Bowie of Calhoun Falls, Beverly Brownlee of Hodges, Bridgette Jones of Fayetteville, N.C., Debbie Wright of Lincolnton, Ga., and Valarie Bowie of Atlanta; five sons, Ruben Bowie Jr. and Norris Gray, both of Abbeville, Michael Bowie of Iva, Herman Bowie of Atlanta and Wayne Bowie of Calhoun Falls; a sister, Georgia Jennings of McCormick; three brothers, J.W. Bowie and Solomon Bowie, both of Abbeville and Lucious Bowie of Philadelphia; 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Richie Funeral Home, Abbeville, which is in charge.

James O. Cade

CALHOUN FALLS — Services for James Odell Cade, of 221 Seneca Circle, will be at 2 Saturday at Glovers AME Church, conducted by the Rev. R.L. Johnson and the Rev. Johnnie Waller. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are Bennie Burns, Steve Mickson, Derrick Burns, Willie Little Jr., Rodney Postell and Tyrone Tillman.
Flower bearers are nieces and friends of the family.
The family is at the home.
Friendly Funeral Home is in charge.

David A. Gregg Sr.

STARTEX — David A. Gregg Sr., 80, of 44 N. Main St., passed away Aug. 23, 2000.
He was a son of the late Theodore and Gertrude Price Gregg.
Survivors include two daughters, Lola G. Phillips of Greer and Joyce G. Shirey of Greenwood; three sons, Paul D. Gregg of Spartanburg, David A. Gregg Jr. of Startex and David B. Gregg of Clinton, N.C.; a sister, Anne Campbell of Inman; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Friday at Tucapau Baptist Church, with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 2-3 at the church.
Memorials may be made to Tucapau Baptist Church Building Fund, 4 Chestnut St., Startex, S.C. 29377.

Pauline C. Leverette

GREENWOOD — Pauline C. Leverette, 56, of 1227 Florida Ave., formerly of 6668 Mount Zion Blvd., Atlanta, widow of James P. Leverette, passed away Aug. 23, 2000, at the home of a daughter.
A daughter of the late Luther and Polly Wells Leverette, she attended McCormick public schools and was a member of Pine Grove AME Church and Pine Grove Gospel Chorus.
Survivors include three sons, James Leverette Jr. and Bernard A. Leverette, both of Atlanta and Roscoe Leverette of Norfolk, Va.; five daughters, Bernita Kelly of Savannah, Ga., Cheryl Ware and Tammy Leverette, both of Atlanta, Luncinda Leverette of McCormick and Shelia Wright of Greenwood; two sisters, Jessie M. Smalls of McCormick and Alice Crawford of Atlanta; three brothers, Luther Crawford of Elberton, Ga., George Crawford Miami and John Crawford of McCormick.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Luncinda Leverette, Kelly-Freeman subdivision, McCormick.
Services will be announced by McCormick Memorial Chapel, which is in charge.

Paul F. Shaw

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Paul F. Shaw, 75, of Westfield Avenue, husband of Doris Desautels Shaw, passed away Aug. 22, 2000, at Southern Maine Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of the late James Henry and Lizzie Holsemback Shaw. He graduated from Greenwood High School and served in the Navy on the destroyer escort USS Farquar in the North Atlantic and the Pacific. He was an operating engineer with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 4, Boston and a member of St. Andre’s Church. He participated in Tri-City golf tournaments.
Survivors include his wife of Biddeford; a daughter, Carolyn Jaspar of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; two sons, William Shaw of Biddeford and Matthew Shaw of Columbia, Mo.; two sisters, Martha Pace of Greenwood and Ruth Spearmen of Abbeville; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Andre’s Church, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 Friday at Hope Memorial Chapel.
Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., is in charge.

Fern Tingle

FORT MILL — Hazel Fern Bennett Tingle, 53, passed away Aug. 22, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Survivors include two sons, Darrell Allen Tingle of Greenwood and Michael Shane Tingle of Texas ; two sisters, Patricia Crane of Greenville and Elizabeth Ford of Fort Mill; and two granddaughters.
Services will be at 2 today at First Baptist Church of Fort Mill, with burial in Unity Cemetery.
Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge.

Bob Yarborough Sr.

AIKEN — Robert Eugene “Bob” Yarborough Sr., 65, husband of June G. Yarborough, passed away Aug. 22, 2000, at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of the late John Thomas and Ruth Worthington Yarborough. He retired as senior vice president of Security Federal Savings Bank in Aiken and served in the Air Force, receiving the Good Conduct Medal. He received a degree in business from Lander University, Greenwood. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and a former member of Sertoma and Jaycees.
Survivors include his wife of Aiken; a son, Robbie Yarborough of Greenville; a daughter, Ruthie Graham of Dublin, Ga.; two sisters, Grace Boland of Greenwood and Dorothy Crawley of Chesapeake, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Friday at George Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Eddie Leopard and the Rev. Chuck Byrd. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bill Aiken, Will Aiken, Gene Sellers, Kirk Boland, Jake Pride Cox and C.W. Bladon.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Roy Ballard

NINETY SIX — James R. “Roy” Ballard, 80, of 233 W. Main St., widower of Betty Ballard, passed away Aug. 5, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late Will B. and Mattie Masters Ballard. He was a retired dispatcher with the Ninety Six Police Department, a World War II Army veteran and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include a son, Shawn Ballard of Calhoun Falls; a daughter, Sheila Ballard Reedy of Greenwood; three sisters, Ersale Kizer of Greenwood, Margaret Boone of Callison and Mary Lomax of Ninety Six; and a brother, Johnny Ballard of Ninety Six.
Services will be at 4 today at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Davis. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Neil Lomax, Gary Yochem, Mike Hall, Richard Hallman, Lelan Amick and Barry Hartman.
The family is at the home.
