Tweedie Ann Devlin

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Tweedie Ann Durst Devlin, 71, of 75 Wendover Road, widow of Gus M. Devlin, passed away Dec. 15, 2000, at an Asheville hospital.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., she was a daughter of the late James West and Claudia Haselden Durst. A graduate of Lander College, Greenwood, she worked for the Asheville-Buncombe Library System from 1961 until the late 1980s. She was a member of the Home and Garden Club and the DAR, and a member of Oak Forest Presbyterian Church for 43 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Ann Foster) Marriner of Atlanta; a son, James Durst Devlin of Decatur, Ga.; a granddaughter; and a sister, Claudia Durst Johnson of Albany, Calif.
Memorial services will be at 2 Sunday at Oak Forest Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James E. Aydelotte.
Visitation is at the church after the services.
Memorials may be made to Oak Forest Presbyterian Church, 880 Sand Hill Road, Asheville, N.C. 28806 or to the Presbyterian Home for Children, 80 Lake Eden Road, Black Mountain, N.C. 28711.

Irene Fortner

WARE SHOALS — Irene Madden Fortner, 87, of Indian Mound Road, widow of Edgar Douglas Fortner, passed away Dec. 14, 2000, at Hillcrest Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Glenn Leland and Rainey Lollis Madden. She was a member of Ware Shoals West Main Street Church of God.
Survivors include a son, William Thomas Fortner of Greenville; three daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Patsy) Cothran of Ware Shoals, Mrs. James (Merlin) Sims of Fountain Inn and Mrs. David (Sybil) Hamby of Belton; two sisters, Ollie Mae Wells and Christine Cothran, both of Ware Shoals; five brothers, David Madden of Spartanburg, Horace Madden and Woodrow Madden, both of Ware Shoals, Joseph Madden of Laurens and the Rev. Truman Madden of Simpsonville; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Sunday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Larry Watson and the Rev. T.T. Madden. Burial will be in Mount Gallagher Baptist Church Cemetery, Indian Mound Road, Ware Shoals.
Pallbearers are Curtis Wells, Mike Hamby, Faron Cothran, Barry Sims, Mike Madden and Marty Madden.
Visitation is from 1:30-3 Sunday at the funeral home.
Family members are at their respective homes.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Ned Owen

ELGIN — Ned Owen, 75, widower of Faye Fortner Owen, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000.
Born in Westminister, SC., he was a son of Loudora Dixon Owen, formerly of Greenwood, and the late Ross S. Owen.
The Rev. Owen was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, who received five major battle star awards.
He was a member of Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church for 22 years. A clergyman for more than 50 years, Owen also ministered in Mississippi, Alabama and elsewhere in South Carolina.
Owen retired from the ministry in 1993 and lived in Elgin.
Survivors include his mother; sons L. “Skip” Owen, James “Jimmy” Ross Owen, R.A. “Rick” Owen, all of Elgin, and William Dennis Owen of Charleston and Billy Alvin Owen of Gilbert; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Owen was predeceased by a daughter, grandson and two brothers.
Services will be at 1, Saturday, Dec. 16 at Highway Pentecostal Church, conducted by the Rev. George C. Cashwell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers include the Rev. Owen’s grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Memorials may be made to Highway Pentecostal Church, 2290 Heath Pond Road, Elgin, S.C. 29045.

Harry Sparks

GREENWOOD — Harry Wilson Sparks, 84, of 312 Ridgeway Drive, husband of Louise Cullum Sparks, passed away Dec. 14, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pacolet, he was a son of the late John Hallman and Mildred Scott Sparks. He retired from the Army and had served in Saipan during World War II. He was also a retired letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He was appointed to the Board of Registration by former Gov. Dick Riley and was a charter member of North Side Baptist Church and the Greenwood Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Kay S. Carter of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Charles V. Sparks of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. James O. (Christine) Bolton of Greenwood; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 Sunday at Blyth Funeral Home, with Dr. Jeff Lethco and the Rev. Steve Watson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are nephews and grandsons.
Honorary escorts are members of the Yeldell Sunday School Class, the Men of North Side Baptist Church, along with Ed Jordan, Joe Ligon, Carl Sanders, Harry Davis, Maurice Pridmore, Fred Alewine and Warren Cox.
The family is at the home
Visitation is at the funeral home from 6-8 tonight.
Memorials may be made to North Side Baptist Church Building Fund, 409 Northside Drive, Greenwood, S.C. 29649.

GREENWOOD — Services for Chris Williams of 1 Lakeside Drive, Greenville, formerly of Greenwood, will be conducted by the Rev. R.C. Oglesby on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 3:30 at Antioch Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Moton, Ezel Sanders, Kevin Brooks, Codel Holloway, Sloan Griffen, James Reynolds and Steve Griffen.
Flowerbearers will be aunts and cousins.
The body will be in the church at 2:30 and visitation is at the funeral home from 6-7 on Saturday.
The family is at the home of his mother at 106 Myrtle Street, Magnolia subdivision, Greenwood.

Adelle Henderson Belcher

NEWBERRY — Adelle Henderson Belcher, 98, formerly of 415 Mathis Road and Anna Maria Nursing Home, widow of Simon Otis Belcher Sr., passed away Dec. 16, 2000, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Born in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Betsy Brown Henderson. She was a former member of St. Vaughnville Crossroad Baptist Church and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Izola Wilson of Greenwood; a step-daughter, Mattie Tatum of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. James Key and assisted by Minister Gregory Hughes. Burial will be at Evening Star Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 11.
Pallbearers will be United Methodist Men.
Flower bearers will be United Methodist Women.
Visitation is from 7-8 tonight at Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc.
The family is at the home of her daughter, 115 Biscayne Drive.

Harold S. Butler

CLEARWATER — Mr. Harold S. Butler, 76, of 54 South St., widower of Mrs. Bobbie Sue Mark Butler, passed away Dec. 15, 2000 in Aiken.
Born in Ware Shoals, he was a son of the late Olin Butler and the late Gussie Davenport Butler. He was retired from Thurston Motor Lines with 26 years of service. He was a member of Clearwater First Baptist Church and a member of Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Self and Faye Berry, both of Clearwater; a brother, Paul Butler of Hodges; a sister, Frances Agnew of Greenwood; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 Monday at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley, conducted by the Rev. John Bolin. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens at 2:30 Monday.
Visitation is from 5-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Troy Gunter, Roy McKie, Olin Butler, Mike Butler, Marion Butler and Joe Cumbee.
Memorials may be made to Clearwater First Baptist Church, P.O. Drawer “B”, Clearwater S.C., 29822.

Lillian Wall Johnson

FRESNO, Calif. — Lillian Wall Johnson, 58, of 6316 N. Barcus St., wife of Boy D. Johnson, passed away Dec. 9, 2000, at Kaise Hospital in Fresno, Calif.
Born in Plum Branch, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Vivian Wilkie Wall. She was a sales representative and a member of Friant Foothill Bible Church.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kim Cox of Greenwood and Angie Ellis of Fresno; a brother, Foy Wall of Greenwood; a sister, Elizabeth Wall Quarles of Greenwood.
Graveside services will be at 3 Monday at Overbrook Cemetery, McCormick.
Pallbearers will be nephews of the family.
Friends may call the funeral home from 1-2:30 Monday prior to the service.
