Tommy Lynn Turner

Tommy Lynn Turner, 56, died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at his home.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Thomas Elbert Turner and Margaret Christine Turner Turner.

Mr. Turner attended New Star Community Church of the Nazarene and was a retired carpenter.

Surviving are a brother, Edward Miles Turner of Hopkins and a sister, Martha Gomez of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Griffin.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday at New Start Community Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Dale Turner and Rev. G. W. Harrell officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of his sister, 4025 Ginger Lane.

Memorials may be made to New Start Community Church of the Nazarene, 4686 J. W. Rhames Road, Manning, SC 29102.

Anthony Paschal Bracalente

1923-2009

Anthony (Tony) Paschal Bracalente, 85, husband of Beatrice Jackson Bracalente, died, Friday, January 23, 2009 at Tuomey Healthcare System.
Born in Atlantic City, N. J. he was a son of the late Pasquale Bracalente and Mary Bucci Bracalente.
Mr. Bracalente was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church where he was a former member of the Parish Council and a Eucharistic minister. Formerly a member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a past director of the Shepherd Center. He served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce –manufacturing section and a counselor of S.C.O.R.E. through the Chamber. He worked on the Govenor’s Task Force. He was a former director of the YMCA-YWCA Twinn Program and an active member of the YMCA. He was a former Rotarian. He was a graduate of Drexel University (electrical engineering) and a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He was the former plant manager with Exide Battery for 35 years. He was a WWII veteran where he served in the U.S. Navy, of the 1St Platoon Seabee Unit.
Surviving are his wife (Bea); one son, Chip Bracalente (Zan) of Sumter; three daughters, Donna Bracalente Johnston (Wayne) of Sumter, Jan Bracalente Carlson (George) of Baltimore, MD and Anita Bracalente Sinks (Jerry) of Bloomington, IN; three brothers, Alfred Bracalente (Joann) of San Diego, CA, Emedio Bracalente (Carole) of Williamsburg, VA, Robert Bracalente of Cape May, NJ; four grandchildren, Mary Bennett Bracalente, Charles Robert Johnston, Max Carlson, Andrew Carlson; one step-grandson, Cory Glasscock.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father Charles Donovan, C.Ss.R. officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Don Adee, Roby Kelley, Bobby Beatson, Robert Bradley, Charles Bostic, Leland Brown, Dave Simenson, and John McInnis.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of YMCA Morning Coffee Club.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 486 Chippewa Circle.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church, 611 W. Oakland Avenue,One Faith One Family Fund or the charity of one’s choice.

Frances Cotton Rembert

1939-2009

Frances Cotton Rembert, 69, widow of Porcher Gaillard Rembert, died Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in St. Matthews, she was a daughter of the late Aubrey Cotton and Mary Frances Bracey Cotton.

Mrs. Rembert was a retired teacher at Thomas Sumter School.

Surviving are one son, Philip Gaillard Rembert of Sumter; one daughter, Mary Gaillard Rembert Walsh of Watkinsville, GA; one daughter-in-law, Nicole Jordan Rembert of Sumter; three grandchildren, Sarah Frances Walsh, James Francis Walsh, and Justin Porcher Rembert.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Porcher Rembert.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Vince Halter officiating.

Burial will be in the Old Rembert Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 5 to 7 PM Tuesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 18 English Street.

Louise Lorie Lewis

1922-2009

Louise Lorie Lewis, 86, died Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Charles Haynesworth Lewis and Lorie Ardis Lewis Adams.

Miss Lewis was employed as a Secretary with the U. S. Navy during World War II. In 1947, Louise gave her life as a missionary of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She spent the rest of her life in the ministry and was loved by many.

Surviving are one sister, Marie Ard Hansen and husband Carl of Sumter; two brothers, Robert Obed Lewis of Batesburg and Marvin Shaw Lewis and wife Frances of Laurinburg, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Lewis Kelly; three brothers, Carlisle F. Lewis, Charles H. Lewis, and George E. Lewis.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Mr. George Lee, Mr. Robert Flippo and Mr. Philip Farris officiating.

Burial will be in the Singleton-Lewis Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joe Singleton, Russell Singleton, David Hawkins, Jeffrey Singleton, Loren Purcell, Nate Purcell and Chuck Buchanan.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her sister, Marie Ard Hansen, 2780 Bryant Road or at the home of her cousin, Joe Singleton, 976 Club Lane.

James Euten

1942-2009

James E. Euten, Sr., 66, husband of Deborah Hamrick Euten, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at his home.

Born in Eutawville, he was a son of the late Henry L. Euten and Alice Inez Nesbitt Euten.

Mr. Euten was a member of Lakeside Outreach Ministries. He was a retired roofer and carpenter.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; five sons, Henry Ellie Euten and wife Jan, James E. Euten, Jr. and wife Sarah, Jamie Carson Euten and wife Candida, Christopher Euten all of Sumter, and Keith Euten and wife Judy of Washington ; six daughters, Melissa Lynn Thompson and husband Steve, Sandra Vest and husband Bryan all of Sumter, Linda Barnes and husband Danny of Charleston, Renee Golke and husband Donnie of Forest city, NC, Ann Goforth and husband Robert and Mickey Nance all of Forest City, NC; one brother, Johnny Euten and wife Marie of Sumter; one sister, Martha Haithcock of Sumter; 24 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Griffin officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Hoem and other times at the home, 4490 Questria Drive.

Lt. Col. Ret. USAF Walter Lemieux

1917-2009

Retired (USAF) Lt. Colonel Walter Francis Lemieux, 91, husband of Harriett Meader Lemieux, died Monday, January 26, 2009 at his home.

Born in West Lebanon, New Hampshire, he was a son of the late Walter Lemieux and Julia Jordan Lemieux.

Mr. Lemieux was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and was a U. S. Air Force veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, Walter Joseph Lemieux and wife Lea of New Harmony, UT and William David Lemieux and wife Rose of Bremerton, WA; three daughters, Cheryl Ann Wells and husband Woodrow of Sumter, Pamela Jean Michaelis and husband Darrell of South Middleboro, MA, and Lisa King of Hartsville; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one nephew, James Segalini and wife Ode of Londonbury, NH.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday in the Sumter Cemetery with Father Charles Donovan, C.Ss.R. officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church, 611 W. Oakland Avenue, Sumter, SC 29150.

Leslie Stein Elmore

1961-2009

Leslie Stein Elmore, 47, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Tuomey Healthcare System.

Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, she was a daughter of Anna Franks Stein and the late Donald Arthur Stein.

Mrs. Elmore was a former member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Hillcrest High School. She was formerly employed by Wilson MacEwen Co. and currently employed as staff accountant with Van Bulck and Company, CPAs.
She was a loving daughter, sister and a loving mother to her three children.

Surviving are her mother of Sumter; one son, Brandon Elmore of Sumter; two daughters, Brentney Elmore and Bailey Elmore both of Sumter; one sister, Lisa Barras and husband Frank of Sumter.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Pickens officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her mother, 2081 Tudor St.
