Frank Burt Jr.

EDGEFIELD — Frank Burt Jr., 54, husband of Rena B. Burt, passed away Dec. 7, 2000.
Born in Edgefield County, he was the son of Mattie Padgett Burt and the late Frank Burt Sr. He was a member of Willow Spring Baptist Church and the Sons of Aide. He was an employee of International Paper.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lisa Butler and Pamela Burt; a son, Steven Burt; two sisters, Mary Hammonds and Sarah Baldwin; four brothers, George, Albert, James and Willie Burt; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Sunday at Willow Spring Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Butler & Sons Funeral Home is in charge.

Clarence D. Morris

GREENWOOD — Clarence David Morris, 83, of 514 Circle Drive, widower of Mary Lott Morris, passed away Dec. 8, 2000, at Willow Creek Nursing Center in Iva.
Born in Johnston, he was a son of the late Ed and Mattie Rhoden Morris. He was retired from the Greenwood Packing Plant and was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Kadosh AFM Lodge, Johnston and New Market Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Senior Adult Men’s Sunday School Class.
Survivors include three daughters, Dondra Cook, Janice Howle and Martha Humphries, all of Greenwood; two sisters, Ruth Clark of Johnston and Ruby Trotter of Ward; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Sunday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Wiles. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mike Morris, Jack Reel, Dan Moseley, Donald Morris, Ronnie Gary, Dickey Morris, and Morris Holmes.
Honorary escorts will be the men of New Market Baptist Church.
Visitation is from 1-2 Saturday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Martha Humphries, 104 Portsmouth Road, Wellington Green.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646 or to New Market Baptist Church, 906 Ninety Six Highway, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Margaret Postell

CALHOUN FALLS — Ms. Margaret Postell, 63, of 226 Seneca Circle, passed away Dec. 7, 2000, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Calhoun Falls, she was a daughter of the late Mayes and Rosa Dawson Postell. She was retired from J.P. Steven Textile Plant and a member of Glovers AME Church of Calhoun Falls.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Postell of the home; three sons, Terry Postell of the home, Charlie Postell and Rodney Postell, both of Calhoun Falls; three sisters, Rosa Dawson, Sallie Mae Wilson and Mrs. Willie Mae Belcher of Calhoun Falls; five brothers, Robert Postell and Clyde Postell, both of Calhoun Falls, Mayes Postell Jr. and Frank Postell of Philadelphia and John Albert Postell of Danburg, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be announced by Friendly Funeral Home of Calhoun Falls, which is in charge.

Cal Strom

GREENWOOD — Calvin Brainard “Cal” Strom, 66, of 115 Devon Park, husband of Carolyn Casselman Strom, passed away Nov. 19, 2000.
Born in Detroit, Mich., he was a son of the late Arthur and Ruth Haugh Strom. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan and formerly owned a home heath care equipment sales business. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, a member of Golden K and was a Master Gardner with the Men’s Garden Club.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Susan Houk of Morganton, N.C. and Kay E. Strom of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; a brother, Peter Strom of Calif.; two sisters, Cynthia Lake of Va. and Kathryn Aemosegger of Mich.
Memorial services will be at 2 Sunday at St. Mark United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Ken Timmerman. A private family burial will be at Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church Building Fund, 550 By Pass 72 NW, Greenwood, SC 29649.

Irene Petterson Young

GREENWOOD — Irene Petterson Young, formerly of 820 Gage St. and NHC of Greenwood, widow of Tommie Young, passed away Dec. 8, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ella Williams Petterson. She was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church, the Missionary Society, Ladies Auxiliary and the past president of WMU.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Young of Greenwood; and three grandchildren.
The family is at the home of her son at 1308 Drew Ave.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

Catherine Ross Holmes

PROMISED LAND — Catherine Moore Ross Holmes, 76, of 218 Morton Road, widow of Robert M. Holmes, passed away July 2, 2000, at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Bessie McClinton Moore. She was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, a former member of the gospel choir of the church and the Norris Turner Group, and a member of Women’s Aide Society No. 87. She was formerly employed by the Old Nantex Manufacturing Co. and retired from Self Memorial Hospital. She was twice married, first to the late Emanuel Fate Ross.
Survivors include six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Benjamin Moore of Philadelphia, Robert “Stick” Wright and R.H. McClinton, both of Greenwood.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

John C. Jeter

GREENWOOD — John C. Jeter, 73, of 1004 Pine Forest Drive, husband of Lizzie M. Jeter, passed away July 2, 2000, at his home.
Born in Rogersville, Tenn., he was a son of the late John H. and Lizzie Cross Jeter. He retired from the University of South Carolina, working with heating and air, and retired from the Army. He was a member of the DAV and Sandridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Glenn C. Jeter of Laurens; two daughters, Edith Jean Norris of Blythewood and Bonnie J. McManus of Ninety Six; three sisters, Ella Helton of North East, Md., Goldie Silcox of Greenwood and Shirley Novak of Mount Morris, Mich.; 10 brothers, Henry Jeter of Smithsburg, Md., Herman Jeter and Danny Jeter, both of Lennon, Mich., Nelson Jeter of Mountain City, Tenn., L.C. Jeter of Blythewood, J.R. Jeter of Ohio, Harvey Jeter of Piney Flats, Tenn., David Jeter of Hagerstown, Md., Kenneth Jeter of Holly, N.Y., and John Ferreal of Bristol, Tenn.; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Morton Belk and the Rev. Chuck McManus. Burial, with military rites, will be at 2:30 Wednesday in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Columbia.
Visitation is from 6-8 Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Louise Rowe

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Louise Sullivan Rowe, 87, passed away July 1, 2000.
Born in McCormick, S.C., she was a member of Saint Mary on the Hill Catholic Church and was the oldest living Full Covenant member of the Alleluia Community, Third Order Lay Carmelite. She retired as a collection manager and from Augusta National Golf Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Marie Rowe and an adopted daughter, Ann Strozzo, both of Columbus, N.C.; and a sister, Agnes O’Tuel of Augusta.
A Mass was conducted at 9 a.m. today at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with burial in Westover Memorial Park.
Poteet Funeral Home is in charge.

Golden T. Belcher

ABBEVILLE — Services for Golden Thomas Belcher, of Woodview Apartments, No. 93, will be at 1 Friday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Al Green. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers are church officers and friends of the family.
Flower bearers are members of the Missionary Society and friends of the family.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Mamie L. Belcher-Dean, 22 Sawmill Acres, Abbeville.
Brown and Walker Funeral Home is in charge.

Gerene Hall

ABBEVILLE — Gerene Williams Hall, 78, wife of Almon R. Hall, passed away July 5, 2000, at Morgan County Hospital in Madison, Ga.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Preston M. Motes Sr.

COLUMBIA — Preston M. Motes Sr., 90, retired Army colonel, widower of Julia H. Motes, passed away July 4, 2000.
Born in Mountville, he was a son of the late Jesse H. and Rosa Fuller Motes. He graduated from Clemson University, the U.S. Army War College, the Command and General Staff College and the Armed Forces Staff College, where he served as a member of the faculty. He served in the Army for more than 34 years, retiring in 1965. Commissioned in 1931, he was assigned to the 327th Infantry, 82nd Division. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and in the U.S. Army Headquarters Fourth Corps Area, Atlanta, Southwest Pacific Theatre, Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines, where he received Four Battle Stars. He also served in the Quartermaster Generals Office, Washington , D.C., Headquarters U.S. Army Europe, Quartermaster Fourth U.S. Army, Fort Sam Houston, Texas , Quartermaster Headquarters U.S. Army Continental Army Command, Fort Monroe, Va., and as commanding officer at New Cumberland Army Depot, New Cumberland, Pa. His many decorations included the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star.
After retirement from the Army, he served as vice president of Harrisburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Harrisburg, Pa., retiring in 1973.
He was a member of the Military Order of the World Wars, the Retired Officers Association, Cross Hill Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite Bodies, Fort Jackson Chapter National Sojourners and Jamil Shrine Temple. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Columbia Post 6, Fort Jackson Officers Club and Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church of Columbia.
Survivors include a son, Preston M. Motes Jr. of Salt Lake City; two daughters, Julia E. Lewis of St. Louis and Rosa Lee Marinak of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a brother, W. Fuller Motes of Mountville; a sister, Caroline M. Rasor of the Martha Franks Home of Laurens; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Asbury United Methodist Church, conducted by Dr. Noble Miller. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 7-9 Friday at Greenlawn Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
Greenlawn Memorial Funeral Home is in charge.
