Helen Polatty
GREENWOOD — Helen Parks Polatty, 77, of 105 Chapman Court, wife of Joseph Mills Polatty, passed away June 4, 2000, at her home.
Born in Dry Pond, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Bunion and Essie Parr Parks. She was a retired supervisor with Parke-Davis Co. She was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church, the Faith Sunday School Class and the Sunrise Seniors.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Ronnie Joe Polatty, Danny Ray Polatty and Keith Mills Polatty, all of Greenwood; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Wilton C. Maxwell, Dave Patterson and David Corbitt. Entombment will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers are Lee Polatty, Danny Polatty Jr., Will Polatty, Frank Polatty, Carroll Brown, Randy Day and John Marcaccio.
Honorary escorts are members of the Faith Sunday School Class of South Main Street Baptist Church, along with the Sunrise Seniors, Dr. Richard Carter, Dr. Michael Bryant, Thomas Bennett, Wilbur Clark, Gyton McAllister, Jim Moore, Jack McDowell and Joe McClellan.
Visitation is from 10-11 Tuesday at the funeral home.

ABBEVILLE — Ethel Effie Mae Walker, 75, of 819 Haigler St., wife of Henry Walker, passed away June 3, 2000, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.

EDGEFIELD — Clarence Williams, 77, of Holmes Street, passed away June 4, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a World War II Army veteran, a member of Edgefield Church of God and a retiree of Milliken Co.
Survivors include six sons, Avery Williams of Orlando, Fla., John Williams, Benjamin Williams, Kenneth Williams, Randy Williams and Ronnie Williams, all of Edgefield; four sisters, Helen Fortescue of Live Oak, Fla., Grace Graham of Ivey and Brenda Wilson and Patsy Newman, both of Columbia; three brothers, Fred Williams of Saluda, Odell Williams of Anderson and Bert Williams of Batesburg; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, with burial in Eastview Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Howard Young
HONEA PATH — Thomas Howard Young, 85, of 1416 Hook Road, widower of Mary Clinkscales Young, passed away June 4, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Henry B. and Lola Davis Young. He was a retired mechanic with Riegel Textiles and was a World War II veteran. He was also a member of Little River Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Hannah of Abbeville; two brothers, Johnny H. Young and Claude Young, both of Greenwood; a sister, Gladys Willis of Donalds; three grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Little River Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Fuller. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Hannah, 2780 Old Douglas Mill Road in Abbeville.

LORIS — James Oliver Beauford, 75, passed away June 5, 2000.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of Eva Mae Nixon Beauford Blanchett and the late Lemuel Oliver Beauford. He retired from the Navy, serving in World War II and the Korean conflict. He also retired as a computer operator with Western Union.
Survivors include his mother of Abbeville; a daughter, Rose Baker of North Myrtle Beach; and a brother, Clyde Blanchett of Abbeville.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Live Oak Memorial Gardens, Charleston.

Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Fannie Collier and the late William Collier.
Survivors include his mother of Greenwood; a son, Dennis Collier of Talbotton, Ga.; three daughters, Gena Frazier and Cynthia Cooper, both of Columbus and Janice Patrick of Talbotton; three brothers, Willie James Collier of Westhaven, Conn., John Collier of Smith’s Creek, Mich. and Roscoe Collier of Greenwood; and three sisters, Sarah Smith of Detroit and Bettye Warren and Pastor Jessie Simmons, both of Greenwood.

ENOREE — Calvin “Jack” Messer, 75, of 2978 Highway 92, husband of Pearl Messer, passed away June 6, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
A son of the late Kaney and Carrie Messer, he retired as a card fixer with Inman Mills after 30 years of service.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Roger Messer and Jerry Messer, both of Enoree; three daughters, Cathy Knighton of Enoree, Judy Gossett of Woodruff and Maxine P. Tucker of Greenwood; a sister, Belve Smith of Union; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Thursday at Cedar Hill Funeral Home, Woodruff, with burial in Mount Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.
