GREENWOOD — Jeannie Marcelle Cleveland Newman, 65, of 1413 Ninety Six Highway, widow of Harley P. Newman, passed away June 6, 2000, at her home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Lucy Newman, 538 Circle Drive.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Peggy Raines

NORTH CHARLESTON — Peggy Forrest Raines, 82, widow of Mansle E. Raines Sr., passed away June 4, 2000.
Born in Saluda, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Lyde Crawford Forrest. She was a retired registered nurse.
Survivors include a daughter, Phoebe Gombar of North Charleston; two sons, James Raines of Hanahan and Mansle Raines Jr. of Charleston; a sister, Phoebe Duffie of Saluda; a brother, James Forrest of Columbia; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 today at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, with burial in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Carolina Memorial Funeral Home is in charge.

Dick Shirley

GREENWOOD — James H. “Dick” Shirley, 74, of 211 Frances St., Fairforest, widower of Mary Shumate Shirley, passed away June 6, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Clarksville, Ga., he was a son of the late James Moses Shirley and Pearl S. Crane. He retired from Greenwood Mills Executive Office and from the Navy, where he served during World War II. He was a member of Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay S. Boozer of Ninety Six and Linda Shirley of the home.
Services will be at 4 Thursday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Scott Cloninger and the Rev. Bobby Davis. Burial, with full military rites, will be in Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Derick Kidd, Dale Shay, John Campbell, Shane Mattison, James D. Smith and the Rev. Jerry Catoe.
Visitation is from 3-4 Thursday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church, 104 Lebanon Church Road, Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Ethel Walker

ABBEVILLE — Ethel Effie Mae Walker, 75, of 819 Haigler St., widow of Henry Walker, passed away June 3, 2000, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in McCormick County, she was a daughter of the late Sally Quarles and John Wardlaw Sr. She was a textile worker, a homemaker and a member of Grace AME Church.
Survivors include seven daughters, Loretta Gambrell of Greenville, Mrs. Larry (Vivian) Rice of Greenwood, Henrietta Walker and Virginia Walker, both of Abbeville, Johnnie Boddie of Austell, N.C., and Mrs. Charles (Inez) Lucas and Cornelia Walker, both of Columbia; a son, Leroy Walker of High Point, N.C.; five sisters, Carrie Lee of Newbridge, Conn., Robbie Wardlaw, Mrs. Leroy (Francis) Townson , Rebecca Leonard and Mrs. Charles (Josephine) Bailey, all of High Point; four brothers, John Wardlaw Sr., Bobby Wardlaw, Issac Wardlaw and James Odell Wardlaw, all of High Point; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 Thursday at Grace AME Church, with burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Abbeville Mortuary is in charge.

Margaret Wiley

ABBEVILLE — Margaret Bartlett Wiley, 81, of 1263 McDill Road, widow of Melvin P. Wiley, passed away June 7, 2000, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Thelma E. Attaway

FLORENCE — Thelma Easler Attaway, 61, of 2329 Claussen Road, wife of Milton Attaway, passed away June 6, 2000, at her home.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Walter P. and Pauline Easler. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Florence.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Phyllis) Brown of Florence; a son, Mark Attaway of Florence; three sisters, Mrs. Bill (Hazel) Stewart and Mrs. J.W. (Maud ) Taylor, both of Gilbert and Mrs. Charles (Judy) Nichols of Saluda; and a grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home, Saluda, with burial in Travis Park Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Church, 2990 Pamplico Highway, Florence, S.C. 29505.

Bobby Escoe

TALLAHASSE, Fla. — Robert Gerald “Bobby” Escoe, 63, of 1758 Oak Ridge Road, passed away June 6, 2000, at his home.
Born in Carlton, Ga., he was a son of the late Guy and Addie Hanley Escoe. He was a Navy veteran and a retired service station operator in Tallahassee.
Survivors include two sisters, Pauline E. Banes of Greenwood, S.C., and Lutrell E. Phillips of Comer, Ga.
Services will be at 2 Friday at Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. Hal Lane. Burial will be in Meadow Baptist Church Cemetery in Comer.
The family is at the home of a sister, Mrs. Willie (Pauline) Banes, 417 Stevens St., Greenwood,
Visitation is from 7-8 Thursday at the funeral home.

Moses Gray

DUE WEST — Moses Gray, 79, of 75 Mount Lebanon Church Road, husband of Azalee Marshall Gray, passed away June 4, 2000, at his home.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Lewis and Queen Esther Martin Gray. He was a member of Flat Rock AME Church, Abbeville County, a former employee of Erskine College and a construction worker.
Survivors include his wife of the home; five daughters, Mary Frances Clement and Mrs. Ruby Lee Burris, both of Anderson, Esther Rowena Beaufort of Philadelphia, Elizabeth Davis of Baltimore and Katherine Moses of Columbia; eight sons, Henry Clinkscales and Calvin Eugene Gray, both of Belton, John Allan Gray of Anderson, Odell Ellis, Leon Dotson and Douglas Dotson, all of Due West, Preston Ellis of Greenville and Jimmy Ellis of Baltimore; five sisters, Ethel Burton of Level Land, Queen L. Brownlee of Anderson and Marie Killingworth, Lula Mae Stewart and Alice Martin, all of Philadelphia; three brothers, Elihue Martin, Jessie Martin and Willie D. Martin, all of Philadelphia; 60 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Saturday at Flat Rock AME Church, conducted by the Rev. R.C. Harkness, the Rev. Bobby Johnson, the Rev. W.A. Cleveland and Pastor Faye Evans. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Visitation is from 7-7:30 Friday at Holloway’s Funeral Home, Belton.
The family is at the home and at the home of a daughter, Mary Frances Clement, 624 E. Orr St., Anderson.

GREENWOOD — Services for Orlando Mandrell “Lando” Morton, of 1011 Parkland Place Road, Lot 7, will be at 2 Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church, McCormick County, conducted by the Rev. R.C. Holloway, assisted by the Rev. Randy Holloway. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Ricky Saxon, Ervin Morton, Cory Morton, Ostric Holloway, Charles Morton and Stanley Darnell Leach.
Flower bearers are Christina Morton, Tabitha Carter, Tiera Carter, Janice Saxon, Jackie Saxon, Shakeia Saxon, Latavia Dunlap and Shannon Hackett.

Survivors include a daughter, Lucy Newman of Greenwood; five sons, Billy Newman, Allen Newman, Coley Newman and Keith Newman, all of Greenwood and Palmer Newman of McCormick; a sister, Frances C. Whatley of Greenwood; a brother, Paul Cleveland of Annapolis Junction, Md.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Friday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Lethco. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Ray Simpson, John Greenway, Mike Martin, Jimmy Haynes, Tracy Plyer, Randy Plyer, Larry Simpson and Jeffery Whitfield.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
