HONEA PATH — Ruth Elvira Turner Harris, 87, formerly of 105 Maryland Ave., widow of John Madison Harris, passed away May 14, 2000, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Services will be announced by Pruitt Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Dick Hartman

GREENWOOD — Richard Oliver “Dick” Hartman, 80, of Elliott St., husband of Nell Dorsey Hartman, passed away May 14, 2000, at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Visitation is from 6-8 Tuesday at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Loraine Heindl

HODGES — Loraine Foster Heindl{* cq *} , 84, of 2958 Old Douglas Mill Road, widow of Ralph Robert Heindl, passed away May 14, 2000, at her home.
Born in Harrodsburg, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Era Gladys Chilton Foster, She was an Army veteran and a retired registered nurse.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Heindl of Greenwood and Kenneth Heindl of Kapolei, Hawaii; a daughter, Barbara Heindl of Hodges; a sister, Sara Maxine Foster Anness of Harrodsburg; a brother, Arthur Caldwell Foster, of Richmond, Ky. and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3 Wednesday in Long Cane Cemetery.
Visitation is from 1:30-2:30 Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Harris Funeral Home is in charge.

Andrew R. Johnson

LAURENS — Andrew Ray “Doc” Johnson, 79, of 201 King Dixon Drive, husband of Frankie Blackwell Johnson, passed away May 14, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late John S. and Mattie Burnett Johnson. He was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carolyn Sandy Johnson of Columbia; a son, Todd Atkins of Hodges; a granddaughter reared in the home, Robin Parker of Laurens; four other grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Tuesday at Laurens Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial in Wood Memorial Park, Duncan.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Kennedy Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Laurens Pentecostal Holiness Church, 26 Wallace St., Laurens, S.C. 29360.
The Kennedy Mortuary is in charge.

GREENWOOD — Lillian Evlue Barnes Kolar, 75, of 104 Rockcreek Drive, wife of Frank Kolar Jr., passed away May 14, 2000, at her home.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, which is in charge.

SALUDA — Johnny Quarles, 52, of Route 3, Box 247, passed away May 13, 2000.
Services will be announced by Palmer Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Carrie L. Sheppard

GREENWOOD — Carrie Lou Tolbert Hackett Sheppard, 85, of 117 Radden Court, widow of James Sheppard, passed away May 13, 2000, at her home.
Born in McCormick County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Ed and Bertha Anderson Tolbert. She was first married to the late Ernest Hackett Sr. She was a member of Bethlehem Church of God Holiness, where she was a mother of the church.
Survivors include three sons, Edward Hackett Sr. and Willie “Bill” Hackett, both of Greenwood and Ernest Hackett Jr. of the home; five daughters, Bertha Hackett of Queens, N.Y., Clementine Bryant, Betty J. Laster and Mary Alice Lake, all of Greenwood and Tenessa Kersey of Hodges; three sisters, Elizabeth Richardson of Queens, Mamie Bosket and the Rev. Dora Ann White, both of Greenwood; 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Tuesday at Bethlehem Church of God Holiness, conducted by Presiding Elder Carter T. Peek, assisted by Elder Joe Warren. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are grandsons and granddaughters.
Honorary escorts are deacons and mothers of the church.
Visitation is at the home.
Parks Funeral Home is in charge.

Robert Lee Autry

ST. LOUIS — Robert Lee Autry, 70, formerly of Greenwood, S.C., passed away April 11, 2000, in St. Louis, Mo.
Born in Union, S.C., he was a son of the late Claudius Pascal and Nina Bell Wilson Autry.
Survivors include four sons, Robert P. Autry, Charles F. Autry, Roger L. Autry and Joseph Autry, all of St. Louis; a daughter, Nina Lucy Autry Parmely of St. Louis; four sisters, Ann Bousseum of St. Louis, Margaret Stewart of Orange, Calif., Elsie L. Ashley of Greenwood and Mary Jean Kanaly of Perry, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial graveside services were held Monday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Greenwood. The Rev. James Tollison officiated.
McLaughlin Funeral Home, St. Louis, was in charge.

Minnie E. Barnett

GREENVILLE — Minnie Evelyn Cooke Barnett, 85, formerly of 102 Sunshine Ave., widow of Henry A. Barnett, passed away May 15, 2000.
Born in Jacksonville, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Minnie Capps Cooke. She was a retiree of Piedmont Industries, a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Henry H. Barnett of Antreville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3 today in Springwood Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Harold Walters.
Visitation is after the services.
The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive, is in charge.

DesDemonia Cartledge

WASHINGTON, D.C. — DesDemonia “Dessie” Cartledge, 90, of Grand Park Nursing Home, passed away May 13, 2000, at D.C. General Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Hillary and Fannie Lewis. She was a retired practical nurse with Brewer Hospital and Self Memorial Hospital, both in Greenwood. She attended Old Mount Zion Baptist Church and Macedonia Baptist Church, Greenwood. She was a member of Daughters of Elks, Daughters of Isis and the Women’s Aide Society.
Survivors include a son, Anthony L. Cartledge of Springfield, Va.; a daughter, Ethel B. Thompson of Greenwood; eight grandchildren, two reared in the home, Deborah Thompson of Washington , D.C. and Herman Thompson of Greensboro, N.C.; 22 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be announced by Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood, which is in charge.

R. Lowell L. Coker Sr.

BAMBERG — Richard Lowell Coker Sr., a former McCormick County School superintendent, passed away May 13, 2000, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia.
Coker, 69, headed McCormick schools from 1984-88, preceding Superintendent Charles Parnell. He later was superintendent in Bamberg County.
He was the husband of Harriet Ham Coker. Born in the Hebron Community of Williamsburg County, he was a son of the late John Lewis and Mae McElveen Coker.
He attended Spartanburg Methodist College and received a bachelor of science degree from Wofford College. He did post-graduate studies in education at The Citadel and received a master’s degree from Appalachian State University. He was a member of the National Education Association, the S.C. Educational Association and Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen Robinson of Houston; two sons, Richard L. Coker Jr. of Columbia and Christopher J. Coker of Orangeburg; two brothers, W. Emory Coker of Lake City and Thurman L. Coker of Cades; and six grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 4 today at Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jim Dennis. Entombment will be in Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Bamberg County Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mary Jane Maxwell, 108 Elizabeth St., Bamberg.
Cooner Funeral Home is in charge.

'Dee Dee' Fendley

McCORMICK — Barbara Denise “Dee Dee” Fendley, 38, of Route 2, Dowtin Road, wife of Curtis E. “Gene” Fendley, passed away May 15, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Charles K. Ray and Barbara McManus Ray. She attended Greenwood schools and was a business graduate of Piedmont Technical College. She was office manager and bookkeeper for B&B Maintenance Contracting and a former employee of F.L. Aerospace.
Survivors include her husband of the home; her father of Orange City, Fla.; her mother of Greenwood; three daughters, Casey Denise Lamb Bond of Greenwood, Amy Lee Fendley of Aiken and Jennifer Marie Fendley of Travelers Rest; two sons, Steven Eugene Fendley of Lincolnton, Ga. and James Austin Fendley of the home; a brother, Charles T. Ray of Orange City; two stepbrothers, David E. Pattison of Ossipee, N.H. and Otis Spencer Pattison of Deland, Fla.; a stepsister, Lisa Roberts of Bath, Maine; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 3:30 Wednesday at Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, conducted by the Rev. Fred Smith and the Rev. Terry Ray. Burial will be in Troy Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.
