Ruth Harris

HONEA PATH — Ruth Turner Harris, 87, formerly of 105 Maryland Ave., widow of John Madison Harris, passed away May 14, 2000, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Born in Edgefield County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Harmon and Addie Corley Turner. She was a retired nursing aide and a member of Chiquola Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, John M. Harris Jr. of Jacksonville; a brother, John W. Turner of Liberty; and six sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Worthington, Mrs. Doris Stroud and Mrs. Rachael Kirby, all of Greenwood, Mrs. Ethel Cooper of Ocala, Fla., Mrs. Tura Babanol of Tennessee and Mrs. Mazell Caldwell of Honea Path.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pruitt Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. David Tyler. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 10-11 Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of a sister, Mrs. A.C. Caldwell, 105 Maryland Ave.
Memorials may be made to Chiquola Baptist Church Building Fund, 490 Laurel St., Honea Path, S.C. 29654.

Dick Hartman

GREENWOOD — Richard Oliver “Dick” Hartman, 80, of 230 Elliott St., husband of Nell Dorsey Hartman, passed away May 14, 2000, at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in Findley, Ohio, he was a son of the late Oliver Sanford and Bertha Westfall Hartman. He was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan, Delaware, Ohio, a World War II Air Force veteran and a member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood and the Baraca Sunday School Class. He retired from Riegel Textiles after 30 years.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Kathey H. Livengood of Greenville, Mrs. Sam (Connie) H. Hill of Laurens and Mrs. J. Neil (Brenda) Hollingsworth of Lawrenceville, Ga.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. J. William Harris and the Rev. Earl Troglin. Entombment will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers are Tommy Patterson, Jimmy Bannister, Humby Quintanna, Chris Myer, Norman Cockrell, Jones Herring and Johnny Stephens.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Melinda Hendrix

NEWBERRY — Melinda Stroud Hendrix, 54, of 230 Long Boys Trail, wife of Frank S. Hendrix Sr., passed away May 12, 2000.
Born in Clinton, she was a daughter of Mattie Stroud Kyzer and the late Grey Jackson Stroud. She was a homemaker and a member of Saluda First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include her husband; her mother and stepfather, Ezell Kyzer, of Newberry; a son, Frank S. Hendrix Jr. of Greenwood; a daughter, Kimberly Hendrix Bowers of Newberry; a sister, Amelia Stroud Finley of Laurens; a brother, Oliver Kent Stroud of Kinards; and four grandchildren.
Services were Monday at Saluda First Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family is at 3242 Nance St.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2230 Glenn St., Newberry, S.C. 29108 or Saluda First Pentecostal Holiness Church, Highway 178, Saluda, S.C. 29138.

Lillian Kolar

GREENWOOD — Lillian Evlue Barnes Kolar, 75, of 104 Rockcreek Drive, wife of Frank Kolar Jr., passed away May 14, 2000, at her home.
Born in Marshall, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Asa and Goldie Barnes. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Frank Kolar III of Greenwood; a daughter, Shelia Ione Kolar of La Port, Ind.; a sister, Mildred Hyatt of Indianapolis; and three grandchildren.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kolar III, 104 Rockcreek Drive, Chinquapin.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1453, Greenwood, S.C. 29648.

Bessie S. Leopard

NINETY SIX — Bessie Stewart Leopard, 86, formerly of 221 Lowell St., wife of Homer Leopard, passed away May 14, 2000, at Colonial Heights Convalescent Center, Colonial Heights, Va.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Rena Belle Abney Stewart. She retired from Greenwood Mills, Ninety Six Plant. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Homemakers Club and the TEL Sunday School Class and kept the nursery for 20 years. She was twice married, first to the late G. Arthur Gaskin Jr.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Donald S. Gaskin of Colonial Heights and Tony A. Leopard of Greenwood; a stepdaughter, Glendine Lawton of Greenwood; two stepsons, Royce Leopard of Hodges and Homer Leopard Jr. of Greenwood; a half sister, Mrs. Mattie Lou Butler of Ninety Six; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Charles Owens and the Rev. Joe Chapman. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Donald Stewart Gaskin Jr., Derek A. Gaskin, Gary M. Gaskin, John Lawton Jr., Brad Leopard and Lanier Williams.
Honorary escorts are members of the TEL Sunday School Class of Temple Baptist Church, along with Ronnie Fisher, Randy Harvey, Royce McDowell, Dean Haston, Gene Hallman and Pinky Dowis.
Visitation is from 2:30-4 Wednesday at the funeral home.
Family members are at their respective homes.

GREER — Ruth U. Leopard, 78, widow of Robert M. Leopard, passed away May 14, 2000, at Roger Huntington Nursing Center.
Born in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late R.L. Upton Sr. and Maxie Weathers Upton. She was a homemaker and a member of Apalache United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Robert H. Leopard of Dandridge, Tenn.; a brother, Harold A. Upton of Greer; and a sister, Maudia Rector of Abbeville.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 Wednesday in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Ernest Barr.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at The Wood Mortuary.
The family is at the home of Walter H. Stone, 355 Stone Road, Campobello.

Rudy B. Loudermilk

WALHALLA — Rudy Benjamin Loudermilk, 46, of 161 Panhead Road, husband of Kathy Miller Loudermilk, passed away May 12, 2000.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Essie Mae Cushman Loudermilk of West Union; two sons, Edward Boulton and Chris Boulton, both of Seneca; two daughters, Stephanie Boulton and Amy Boulton, both of Seneca; two brothers, Roger Loudermilk of Seneca and Anthony Loudermilk of Walhalla; five sisters, Shirley Nix of McCormick, Shelby Dockery of Travelers Rest, Doris Wilbanks of Mountain Rest, Sheron Donald of Seneca and Pam Welborn of West Union; and two grandchildren.
Services were Monday at Golden Corner Church, with burial in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
The family is at 1401 Main St., West Union.

Frank Martin

TROY — Services for Frank Martin, of Route 1, Highway 28, will be at 1 Wednesday at St. Goodwill Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Frank Williams. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
The family is at the home of a stepdaughter, Agnes McLaughlin and a sister, Eunice Jackson, both of Route 1, Troy.

Johnny W. Quarles

SALUDA — Johnny Wayne Quarles, 52, of Route 3, Box 247, passed away May 14, 2000.
Survivors include a son, Jonathan Quarles of Lexington; two daughters, Leigh Quarles and Kelley Parkman, both of Johnston; seven sisters, Jean Jackson, Virginia Willings and Judy Rawl, all of Johnston, Martha Hamilton of Belvedere, Margaret Herron of Windsor, Faye Forrest of Saluda and Claudine Bolling of Aiken; and a grandson.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Kathleen Beiers

DUNCAN — Kathleen “Katie” Johnson Beiers, of 118 Oak St., widow of Andy N. Beiers, passed away May 15, 2000.
A daughter of Myrtie S. Johnson and the late Joe D. Johnson, she retired from Springs Industries.
Survivors include her mother of Duncan; two daughters, Melanie B. Starnes of Lyman and Gay B. Mullinax of Saluda; a sister, JoAnn Allred of Duncan; and a grandson.
Services will be at 3 Thursday at First Baptist Church of Duncan, with burial in Wood Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 6:30-8:30 tonight at The Wood Mortuary.

Jack B. Gary Sr.

ANDERSON — Jack Bryson Gary Sr., 68, of 2159 Scarborough Road, husband of Wilma B. Gary, passed away May 15, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Martin B. and Eunice S. Gary. He was a retired employee of Clark-Schwebel Inc. and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jacky B. Gary Jr. of Anderson; a daughter, Cheryl Alewine of Honea Path; two sisters, Barbara Motes and Daisy Smith; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 3:30 Thursday at McDougald Funeral Home, with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
