Socrates Lee Greene Jr.

COLUMBIA — Socrates Lee Greene Jr., of 207 E. Hampton Way, passed away April 29, 2000.
Born in Charleston, he was a son of Socrates Lee and Sandra Boozer Greene.
Survivors include his parents, a brother, Chris Davis and two sisters, Candace Greene and Chloe Greene, all of the home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James C. Boozer of Greenwood, Trudie Greene-Trappier and Daniel Blunt; and a great-grandmother, Jane Crosson.
Services will be at 3 Wednesday at First Nazareth Baptist Church, Gervais Street, with burial in Lincoln Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Leevy’s Funeral Home, Taylor Street, is in charge.

Sam Guilford Jr.

ABBEVILLE — Sam Jefferson Guilford Jr., 65, of 107 Rosemont Terrace, husband of Lottie Jean Ayers Guilford, passed away April 30, 2000, at his home.
Born in Hartford, Ala., he was a son of the late Sam Jefferson Guilford Sr. and Mary Louise Carter Guilford. He graduated from Auburn University in 1957 and retired from the management department at Milliken Textiles. He was a member of Abbeville First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Sam Jefferson Guilford III of Abbeville; two daughters, Jeanne Ware of Abbeville and Jill Kagley of Greenwood; three sisters, Louise Laye of Headland, Ala., Charlotte MacDonald of Mobile, Ala. and Martha Hatcher of Hartford; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 Tuesday at Long Cane Cemetery, conducted by the Revs. Rieney Koschel and David Evans.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Greenwood Christian School, 2026 Woodlawn Road, Greenwood, S.C. 29649.

Murray A. Kneece

AIKEN — Murray A. Kneece, 68, of 75 Mixon Road, husband of Mozelle Fox Kneece, passed away May 1, 2000, at his home.
Born in Aiken County, he was a son of the late James W. and Allie Altman Kneece. He retired from the Coast Guard and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of VFW Post 10601 and the American Legion Post in Columbia.
Survivors include his wife of Aiken; two sons, Jim Kneece of Aiken and Gene Busbee of Greenwood; seven daughters, Donna Smith of Clearwater, Amy West, Vickey Beckham, Lois Kneece and Carolyn Anderson, all of Greenwood, Cheryl Porterfield of Ludwici, Ga. and Lynn DeLoach of Warner Robins, Ga.; two sisters, Girlie Cushman of Windsor and Mildred Lowe of El Chentro, Calif.; two brothers, Ethridge Kneece of Trenton and Leroy Carroll of Pontiac; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 Wednesday in Aiken Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Mark Watford and the Rev. Kenneth DeLoach.
Pallbearers are Curtis Canty, Robert Kneece, Eddie Cook, Cleve West, James Barron and Gene Busbee.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Napier Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Mary Mathis

TRENTON — Mary Alice Edwards Mathis, 87, of 401 Church St., passed away May 1, 2000, at her home.
Born in Johnston, she was a daughter of the late Van E. Edwards Sr. and Dora Deloach Edwards. She was a homemaker and a former member of Country Gardeners Garden Club. She was a member of Episcopal Church of Our Saviour.
Survivors include a daughter, Cathryn M. Brice of Trenton; a son, Eugene C. Mathis Jr. of Albany, Ga.; a sister, Helen E. Herlong of Johnston; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 4 Wednesday in Ebenezer Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, Trenton or St. Joseph Hospice.

Leonard Napp

LEXINGTON — Leonard Napp, 75, husband of Vivian Ross Napp, passed away April 24, 2000.
Born in Yonkers, N.Y., he was a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Andreckek Napp and a World War II Army veteran, serving in Europe. He received a master’s of science degree in music education from Columbia University, New York City, in 1950 and taught music in Florida and Georgia. He also worked as a manager with W.T. Grant in Crisfield, Md., and in other retail sales positions. He moved to Columbia in 1969 and served as the Canteen Officer for the Dorn VA Hospital until 1971.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Barry Ross Napp of Newport News, Va.; two daughters, Barbara Napp McLeod of Greenwood and Lori Roberta Napp of Vero Beach, Fla.; and three grandsons.
Graveside services were Monday in Florence National Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Stephen Todd of Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Dorothy Raines

HONEA PATH — Dorothy Mervis Clemmons Raines, 59, of 1315 Chiquola Ave., wife of Glen Raines, passed away May 1, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Donaldsonville, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Jeff and Verdie Lena Avirett Clemmons. She was a homemaker and attended Broadmouth Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Edward Ray Raines of Donalds and Thomas Raines and Franklin Raines, both of Woodfin, N.C.; a daughter, Lena Jane Raines of the home; four brothers, Kenneth Clemmons of Chicago, Donald Clemmons of Barto, Fla., Harry Clemmons of Liberty, Texas , Thomas Clemmons of Marion, N.C.; and 15 grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 Wednesday at Honea Path Church of God of Prophecy, conducted by the Rev. Barry Sutton. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 3.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Pruitt Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Alfred Reaves

MONCKS CORNER — Alfred Reaves, 48, husband of Vera Mae Reaves, passed away April 27, 2000.
Born in Moncks Corner, he was a son of Oliver and Louise Manigault Reaves.
Survivors include his wife; children, Maier Reaves of Lawton, Okla., Laquana Reaves of Greensboro, N.C., Alrecho Reaves of Paris Island, Marvin Reaves of Greenwood and Mark Reaves and Alfred Reaves Jr., both of Moncks Corner; and four brothers.
Services will be at 2 Wednesday at Anderson Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-8 tonight at Tew’s Funeral Home.

John W. Butler

EASTOVER — John Westley Butler, of 1117 Old McGraw Road, husband of Eliza Butler, passed away May 19, 2000.
Born in Saluda, he was a son of the late Richard and Lucille Jackson Butler. He was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, Saluda, and a retired foundry worker.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert A. Butler of Columbia; four daughters, Lucille Williams of Eastover, Carol Anderson of Walcott, Conn., Sylvia Butler of Dallas, Ga. and Joan Butler of Hopkins; a brother, Charles Butler of Saluda; five sisters, Bessie Weaver and Mable Simmons, both of Saluda, Dillie Shepard of Newberry, Popie Williams of Oak Park, Mich. and Albertha Gallman of Waterbury, Conn.; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 Wednesday at Daughters of Zion Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 3-9 today at J.P. Holley Funeral Home.

Carl E. Long

SILVERSTREET — Carl E. Long, 79, formerly of Silverstreet, widower of Catherine Bowers Long, passed away May 21, 2000, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late L. Edgar and Fannie Harmon Long. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara L. Stanford of Chesapeake, Va. and Beth L. Dills of Rock Hill; a son, Larry Long of Clinton; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Silverstreet Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 5-6:30 today at Whitaker Funeral Home.

Earl D. McCullough

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Earl D. McCullough, 66, husband of Jane Francis McCullough, passed away May 21, 2000, at the City Hospital.
Born in Ninety Six, S.C., he was a son of the late Ernest and Lila Howard McCullough. He retired as a retail manager of McCrory’s, Berkeley Plaza Shopping Center and was a Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Michael McCullough of Enola, Pa., Timothy McCullough of Martinsburg and Samuel McCullough of Fairfax, Va.; a daughter, Susan McCullough of Martinsburg; two sisters, Arlene Watson of Pelion, S.C. and Virginia Harris of Ninety Six; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Harold O. Snyder. Burial will be private.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
