Ben C. Wicker

PROSPERITY — Ben Chevis Wicker, 83, husband of Sarah Kinard Wicker, passed away May 24, 2000, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Ben R. and Nellie Livingston Wicker. He was a retired employee of Cannon Construction Co., a former volunteer fireman with St. Philip’s fire department, and a member of Woodmen of the World. He was a member of St. Philip’sLutheran Church, where he was a member of the Lutheran Church Men and the Adult A Sunday School Class and a former member of the congregational council.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Walter R. (Judy) Johnson of Florence and Mrs. Eddie (Becky) Salazar of Prosperity; three sisters, Mrs. Ray (Helen) Gilliam of Newberry, Mrs. Clifton (Nell) Shealy of Greenwood and Mrs. Pinky (Betty Jean) Evans of Pennsylvania ; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 Friday at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, Newberry, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home, Newberry.
Memorials may be made to St. Philip’s Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, 2461 St. Philip’s Church Road, Newberry, S.C. 29108.
McSwain-Evans Funeral Home, Newberry, is in charge.

Martell Javares Brown

McCORMICK — Services for Martell Javares Brown, of 272-B Church St., will be at 2 Saturday at Mount Zion AME Church, conducted at the Rev. Issac Booker, assisted by Elder Melvin Searles. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
An additional survivor is a paternal grandmother, Frances Bridges.
The family is at the home and at 911 Drennon St., both in McCormick.
McCormick Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Mable L. Burton

GREENWOOD — Mable Louise Burton, 69, of 115 Redwood St., widow of Charlie Burton, passed away May 26, 2000, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.
A daughter of the late Frank and Jennie Robinson Johnson, she was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church, Eastside Community Club and the Woman’s Aid Society No. 55.
Survivors include a son, Larry Burton of Columbia; a sister, Lela Payne of the home; and two grandchildren.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Ivan Corley

GREENWOOD — Ivan Eugene Corley, 59, of 103 Woodbine Court, husband of Mary Southerland Corley, passed away May 24, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Charlotte, N.C., he was a son of Margaret Hinton Corley and the late A.F. Corley. He graduated from Hillcrest High School, Simpsonville, in 1959 and attended Clemson College. He formerly served in the Army Reserves, Greenville Unit and was a self-employed realtor and a former member and past president of the Greenwood Home Builders Association. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Greenwood; two daughters, Ann-Margaret McClary of Spartanburg and Tonya C. Brock of Birmingham, Ala.; and a brother, William Howard Corley of Greenwood.
A family graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Oakbrook Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. John H. White.
Memorial services will be at 2 Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Pallbearers are Gene Arthur Culbertson, Carroll Culbertson, Lee Natvig, Gilbert Porter, Curtis Clark, Gene Culbertson, Charles Sperry, Buddy Nix, Ted Martin and Tony King.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home in Cherokee Hills.
Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2330 Cokesbury Road, Greenwood, S.C. 29649 or to the American Heart Association, Columbia Office, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, S.C. 29260.

Cornealia V. Dean

NEWBERRY — Cornealia Victoria Dean passed away May 22, 2000.
Born in Newberry County, she was a daughter of William and Ruth Gilliam. She was a teacher’s aid with GLEAMS Headstart.
Survivors include a son, Dwayne Dean III of Newberry; two sisters, Edna Boyd of Kinards and Cynthia Burns of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Harvey Gilliam of Washington , D.C.; and maternal grandmother, Kittie Jackson of Newberry.
Services will be at 2 Saturday at Upper Mount Olive AME Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Wilson Funeral Home is in charge.

James L. Harrison

McCORMICK — James Lee Harrison, of Route 1, husband of Moline Prince Harrison, passed away May 25, 2000, at his home.
Born in McCormick County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Sallie Bennett Harrison. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he was an organizer of the Usher Board. He attended public schools in McCormick and retired from the Army, serving during World War II. He was twice married, first to the late Elizabeth Harrison.
Survivors include his wife of the h home; four sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Louvenia) Prince of McCormick, Carrie E. Harrison of Greenwood, Annie C. Tompkins of Detroit and Mrs. Willie (Juanita) Givens of Charleston; a stepson, Tarrence Kelly of McCormick; and two grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Infant Austin Holladay

GREENWOOD — Austin Kaine Holladay, infant son of Billy Eugene Cantrell Jr. and Karen Holladay, passed away May 24, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Greenwood.
Survivors include his mother of the home; his father of Greenwood; maternal grandparents, Patsy Lowe Holladay of Waterloo and John H. Holladay of Honea Path; maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lowe and Marcella Holladay of Honea Path and Doc Holladay of Greenwood.
Memorial services will be at 7 tonight at the home of Larry and Pam Kidd, 213 Chipley Road. The Rev. Carroll Harris will officiate.
The family is at the home of Larry and Pam Kidd, where they will receive friends from 6-7 tonight.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.

James R. King

HARTWELL, Ga. — James Randall King, 46, of 462 S. Forest Ave., passed away May 25, 2000, at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, S.C.
Born in Anderson, he was a son of Ruby Glenn Holmes King and the late Hubert R. King. He was an employee of Dundee Mill in Hartwell.
Survivors include his mother of Hartwell; two sons, James N. King and Wesley V. King, both of Piedmont, S.C.; and a sister, Pauline Stephens of Abbeville, S.C.
Services will be at 2 Saturday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, S.C., with burial in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at the mortuary.
The family is at 106 Crawford St., Piedmont.
Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, is in charge.

David E. Norman

GREENWOOD — David Eugene Norman, 48, of 585 Maxwell Ave., passed away May 26, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Mildred Gilliam Norman and the late Harvey Lee Norman. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a construction worker with Dobbs Construction Co.
Survivors include his mother of the home; a son, David Jones of Atlanta; two daughters, Daveana Jones of Atlanta and Tammy Michelle Reed of Greenwood; three brothers, Clarence Gilliam, Harvey Lee Norman Jr. and Larry Darnell Norman, all of Greenwood; a sister, Peggy Norman of the home; and three grandchildren.
Services will be announced by Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

Vera W. Norris

SALUDA — Vera Williams Norris, 80, of 106 Bonham Ave., widow of Luther Virgil Norris, passed away May 24, 2000, at Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Sophia Williams. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, the Ever-Ready Club and the Women Home Aide Society. She was a retired employee of Saluda School District, where she worked as a cook at Saluda Elementary.
Survivors include a son, Luther W. Norris Jr. of Batesburg; three daughters, Paulette N. Bush and Rosetta N. Lott, both of Saluda and Vera L. Norris of Philadelphia; a sister, Iola Hayes of Baltimore; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Sunday at Antioch Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. R.C. Oglesby, pastor. Burial will be in Mount Moses CME Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
The family is at the home.
Butler and Sons Funeral Home is in charge.
