IVA — Lee Anthony Watt, 30, of 1282 Keowee Road, passed away Nov. 6, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of Leo and Annie Ruth White Watt. He attended Dixie High School, Due West, and a member of Flat Rock AME Church, Abbeville County.
Survivors include his parents of the home; and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Ruth Freeman of Anderson and Tarijuana Watt of the home.
Services will be at 2 Saturday at Flat Rock AME Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Visitation is from 6-7 tonight at Holloway’s Funeral Home, Belton.
The family is at the home.

Paul Weathers

WARE SHOALS — James Paul Weathers, 75, 535 Maddox Bridge Road, husband of Berley Ann Horne Weathers, passed away Nov. 8, 2000.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Carl and Eulala White Weathers. He retired from Riegel Textile Corp. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Reedy Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, the VFW, the DAV and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Jim Weathers of St. Mary’s, Ga., and Roland Weathers of Ware Shoals; three stepsons, Bobby Mabrey of Broken Bow, Okla., Scott Mabrey and Tony Gaines, both of Ware Shoals; two brothers, Arthur Lee Weathers of Waterloo and Howard Weathers of Belton; four sisters, Margaret Vaughn of Anderson, Agnes Abercrombie of Fountain Inn, Allie Mae Campbell of Hickory Tavern and Sue Hanks of Honea Path; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Saturday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. James Young and the Rev. Robert Emory. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Jim Weathers, Roland Weathers, Scott Mabrey, Tony Gaines, Randy Hinton, Floyd Walker and Scott Trull.
Honorary escorts are Jack Groet, Dan Patterson, Jim Mattison, Tyson Shewbert, Michael Walker, Charles Walker, Johnny Abercrombie and members of American Legion Post No. 100.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Weathers, Maddox Bridge Road.

Grady Howard Major

IVA — Grady Howard Major, 73, of 88 Pennell Road, husband of Sarah Patton Major, passed away Nov. 9, 2000.
Born in Van Wyck, he was a son of the late Hushel A. and Nora E. Edwards Major. He graduated from Oakley Hall, Rodman, and worked with Seaboard Airline Railroad for 44 years. He moved to Calhoun Falls in 1968, where he was a member of the Eastern Star, a member and deacon of First Baptist Church and one of the first members of the Calhoun Falls Auxiliary Police Department. He was a Mason for 50 years, a treasurer of the Seaboard System Retirement Club and secretary/treasurer of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way Employees for 30 years. He was a golfer and member at High Meadows Country Club and a member of the Friday Senior Bowling League, Anderson.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Dan Major of Iva and Chris Major of Greenwood; four daughters, Susan Botts of Greenwood, Laura Brown and Elizabeth Mullins, both of Columbia and Jennifer McDermott of Greenville; eight grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, and a great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be at 2 Sunday at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home, with private family burial services in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.

James Talmadge Freeman

McCORMICK — Services for James Talmadge Freeman will be at 2 Tuesday at the Shiloh AME Church, conducted by the Revs. Wayne Coleman III and Henderson Louden. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be members of the Sons of Aide Society No. 30.
Flower bearers will be Belinda Adams, Julia Mae Gilchrist, Judy Mortan, Cornelia Wideman, Mamie Chiles, Mary Cunningham, Faye Puckett and Barbara Talbert.
The family is at the home on Mims Drive, McCormick.

Iokay Pressley Davis, 100

ABBEVILLE — Iokay Pressley Davis, 100, a retired school teacher, passed away Nov. 25, 2000, at National Health Care in Greenwood.
She was the widow of Dave Davis and formerly lived at 121 Academy St., Abbeville.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Gertrude Pressley Sullivan. A graduate of Benedict College, she was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
She was the last survivor of her immediate family. Survivors include nieces and a nephew.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens by the Rev. Al Green.
The family is at the home of Ruth Pressley, 111 Orange St., Abbeville.
Brown and Walker Funeral Home is in charge.

Maggie Davis

MOUNTVILLE — Maggie Davis, 99, of 45 J.W. Drive St., widow of George T. Davis, passed away Nov. 23, 2000, at Laurens County Hospital in Clinton.
A daughter of the late Lelious and Mamie Vance, she was the oldest member of Little River Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Maggie L. Conway of the home, Minnie Sarrow of Woonsocket, R.I., Joe L. Simpson of Clinton, Ruby Ivey of Charlotte, N.C., Lillie Mae Garner, Benjamin Moran and Brenda Simpson, all of Washington , D.C., and Lucy Howell of Adelphina, Md.; and 22 grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Little River Zion Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Sanders-Thompson Funeral Home is in charge.

Izona R. Hughes

HODGES — Izona Reed Hughes, 77, of 6214 Highway 25 North, widow of Cecil Hughes, passed away Nov. 26, 2000, at her home.
Born in Anderson County, she was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four sons, William Hughes of Ninety Six, Jerry Hughes of the home, Clifford Hughes of Abbeville and Randall Hughes of Hodges; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Parker-White Funeral Home, Ware Shoals, conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory. Burial will be in Mount Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Johnnie Mae Jones

GREENWOOD — Services for Johnnie Mae Mayes Jones, formerly of 503 Valley Brook Road, will be at noon Wednesday at Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, Epworth, with the Rev. Clyde Cannon officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ivory Goodwin. Burial win be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 11.
Pallbearers are Lester Thomas Jr., Darrelle T. Goode, Tony Garrett and nephews.
Flower bearers are London G. Thomas, Tiffany Goode and nieces.
Ms. Jones, 69, passed away Nov. 24, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenwood County, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Sally Martin Mayes. She was a member of Old Mount Zion Baptist Church and retired from Greenwood Packing Plant.
Survivors include two sons, Sammie Lee Jones of Sanford, Fla., and Melvin Jones of Greenwood; two sisters, Emma Carter of Columbia and Fannie M. Campbell of Greenwood; four grandchildren, three reared in the home, Chantelle, Melvin and Deone Jones; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation is at the home of a granddaughter, Chantelle Jones, 503 Valley Brook Road, Greenwood.

Anne Lear

GREENWOOD — Anne Robbins Lear, 70, of 206 Anchor Road, wife of Charles Lear, passed away Nov. 26, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in York County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Effie Harris Robbins. She was a member of the Catawba Indian Tribe in Rock Hill, where she was known as “Bright Feather.”
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Terry Bodiford of Greenwood; a daughter, Donna Smith of Cleveland, Tenn.; a sister, Esther Miller of Rock Hill; two brothers, Earl Robbins and Flint Robbins, both of Rock Hill; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Earl Owings. Entombment will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Willie Smith

KINARDS — Willie “Wil” Smith, 77, of 8976 Highway 56 South, husband of Louvenia Smith, passed away Nov. 24, 2000, at his home.
Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Roy and Lola Dandy Smith. He was a member of Little River Zion Baptist Church, the Little River Zion Masonic Lodge 526 and the Men’s Aide Lodge 37. He was a World War II veteran and retired from Champion International Co. after 30 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of the home; five daughters, Mrs. James (Willie Mae) Werts Jr. and Brillentine Lindsay, both of Clinton, Carolyn Young of Joanna, Donna Bailey of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Matthew (Betty) Jacks of Kinards; three sons, Henry Smith of Clinton, James Willie Smith of Charlotte, N.C., and Harold Smith; two grandchildren reared in the home, Cassandra Young and Kendrick Lindsay; and a great-grandchild reared in the home, Tiqueisha Young; seven sisters, Corrine Payne, Agnes Anderson, Linda Anderson and Carrie Golden, all of Clinton, Wyonnie Evans, Mattie Baker and Annie Baker, all of Jamaica, N.Y.; a stepsister, Mrs. Queen Knoble of Greenwood; three brothers, Jimmy Dandy of Aiken, Johnny Baker of Jamaica and Robert Leake of Queen Village, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Clara E. Swygert

ANDERSON – Clara Emerson Swygert, 92, of 314 Emerson Bridge Road, formerly of Iva, widow of Ralph Hobart Swygert, passed away Nov. 25, 2000, at Willow Creek Nursing Center, Iva.
Born in the Ebenezer Community, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Newton and Beatrice Smith Emerson. Attending the University of South Carolina and Erskine College, she graduated from Greenville Women’s College (now Furman University) and retired as a teacher from District 3. She was a member of Good Hope Presbyterian Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher in the primary department and a member of the Women of the church.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph H. Swygert of Greenwood and Jacob C. Swygert of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two sisters, Rubye E. Mouchet of Anderson and Eileen E. Jackson of Savannah; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Good Hope Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Joe Bevins and the Rev. Charles L. Evans. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial will be in Iva City Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at McDougald Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Rubye E. Mouchet, 314 Old Emerson Bridge Road.
