Robert L. Turner

SALUDA — Robert Lee Turner, 72, of Route 1, Butler Church Road, widower of Nora Deloris Trotter Turner, passed away Nov. 25, 2000, at the VA Medical Center in Columbia.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Robert Matthew and Rosa Belle Rowe Turner. He was a retired employee of Monsanto, an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of the VFW and Butler United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Robert Eugene Turner of Saluda; a daughter, Sandra Kay Coats of Saluda; two brothers, Clyde Turner of Saluda and Tony Turner of Prosperity; five sisters, Gladys Davis, Ruth Blackmon, Evetter Kitchings, Maude Blackmon and Lela Crenshaw, all of Saluda; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Butler United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Ramey Funeral Home.
Ramey Funeral Home is in charge.

Geno White Jr.

GREENWOOD — Geno White Jr., 53, of 216 Beechwood Circle, husband of Vera Lee Holmes White, passed away Nov. 27, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Racheal Lomax White and the late Geno White Sr. He was an Army veteran and a retired welder with Daniel Construction Co. He was a member of Brewer High School Class of 1965 and attended Piedmont Tech, Georgia Tech and Aiken Tech. He was a member of Mount Zion AME Church and a former church trustee.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Promised Land; two daughters, Stephanie J. Edge and Cheryl D. White, both of Greenwood; two brothers, Eddie White of Hempstead, N.Y., and Renard White of Greenwood; a sister, Mary E. Smith of Greenwood; and three grandchildren.
The family is at the home and at the home of his mother, 201 South St., Promised Land.
Services will be announced by Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

Perrin Anderson dies

GREENWOOD — Former county and state leader James Perrin Anderson passed away Wednesday at his home.
Anderson, 99, was named by The Index-Journal this year as one of the Lakelands’ 100 Most Influential People of the Century.
He was the first judge of the newly created Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in the mid-1950s, had few guidelines to organize the office.
That started by making space for the office: two storage rooms in a basement.
According to The Index-Journal story that announced Anderson’s selection among the 100 most influential, Anderson was “acutely aware that his decisions would affect the stability of families, and he never made them lightly.”
Anderson served in the state House of Representatives, the state Board of Education and was chairman of the Greenwood County Library Board.
He was the widower of Sara Quattlebaum Anderson.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home and were not complete by press time.
The family is at the home.

Bill Broome

ABBEVILLE — William “Bill” Broome Jr., 77, of 110 Florence St., husband of Fay Suber Broome, passed away Nov. 5, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late William Ralph Broome Sr. and Mazie Anna Wilson Broome. He was a retired maintenance mechanic with Monsanto Industries and a World War II Army veteran, serving in Italy and receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of Abbeville First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and assistant superintendent of the Sunday School Department.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Sheryl B. Haupfear of Greenwood and Debbie B. Wilson of Abbeville; a son, Stanley Broome of Abbeville; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Wednesday at Abbeville First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rieny Koschell. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Abbeville First Baptist Church, North Main Street, Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

Joe Dickard

WOODRUFF — James Randall “Joe Berry” Dickard Sr., 62, of 100 Cannery Road, husband of Ida Mae Faulks Dickard, passed away Nov. 4, 2000.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James R. Dickard and Tony D. Dickard, both of Woodruff; a brother, Bill Dickard of Woodruff; three sisters, Rachel Maddery of Greenville, Annette Doolittle of Greenwood and Andrea Westmoreland of Ocean Isle Beach; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Lanford Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of James and Tammy Dickard, 12124 Highway 221, Woodruff.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.

Ruby McManus Hill

GREENWOOD — Services for Ruby McManus Hill, of 300-C Margaret St., will be at 2 Wednesday at Willow Springs Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. E.L. Cain, assisted by the Revs. Ronnie Parkman, R.C. Oglesby and Norris Turner. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are friends of the family.
Flower bearers are members of Woman’s Aid Society No. 104.
Honorary escorts are deacons and trustees of the church.
Visitation is at the home of a nephew, Willie Matthews Sr., 804 Olde Pucketts Ferry Road, Greenwood.
Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Lawrence M. Inman Jr.

WHITMIRE — Lawrence Medford “Baldhead” Inman Jr., 68, husband of Mary Elizabeth Davis Inman, passed away Nov. 6, 2000, at Wallace Thomson Hospital in Union.
Born in Lockhart, he was a son of the late Ovie Maness Inman and Lawrence Medford Inman Sr. He retired from Presbyterian College.
Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Emily Smith and Cynthia Williams, both of Kinards and Carol Lindler, Kathy Welch, Sherry Boyter and Candy Inman, all of Whitmire; five sisters, Phyllis Worthy, Alice Wicker, Peggie Puckett, Ida Gilmer and Freda Eubanks; two brothers, L.M. Inman and Robert Inman; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Thursday at Evans Street Church of God, with burial in Whitmire Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 Wednesday at Gray Funeral Home.
Gray Funeral Home, Whitmire, is in charge.

Helen McManus

GREENWOOD — Helen Strom McManus, 84, of Edgefield, formerly of 209 Woodlawn Road, widow of James W. McManus, passed away Nov. 6, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Edgefield County, she was a daughter of the late Thaddeus Edd and Bettie Quarles Strom. She graduated from Edgefield High School and retired from Abney Mills, Grendel Plant, in Greenwood. A member of Abney Memorial Baptist Church, she was a former teacher in the Primary Sunday School Department.
Survivors include three sisters, Betty Carey and Naomie Medlock, both of Edgefield and Peggy Davis of Orlando, Fla.; and three brothers, Edwin Strom, Roy Strom and Harold Strom, all of Edgefield.
Services will be at 3:30 Wednesday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Wiggins. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Eddie Strom, Michael Medlock, Dr. John Carey, Ed Davis, Brooker Strom, Henry Long, Michael Riddle, Dwight Riddle, Fisher Strom and Bobby Eakin.
Honorary escorts are the men of Abney Memorial Baptist Church.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Abney Memorial Baptist Church, Panola Avenue, Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Carl M. Morris

JOHNSTON — Carl Madison Morris, 77, of 800 Mims Ave., husband of Florence Holmes Morris, passed away Nov. 6, 2000, at Edgefield County Hospital.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of George Edd and Mattie Rhoden Morris. He was a retired water plant supervisor for the Town of Johnston and a member of Dry Creek Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald H. Morris of Johnston; a brother, Clarence D. Morris of Iva; two sisters, Ruth Clark of Johnston and Ruby Trotter of Ward; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Wednesday at Bland Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Lowell Clark. Burial will be in Mount of Olives Cemetery.
Visitation is from 6:30-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Bland Funeral Home is in charge.
