Ruth S. Pruitt

LAURENS — Ruth Spearman Pruitt, 77, of 525 Hanson Circle, widow of Claude B. Pruitt, passed away Oct. 27, 2000, at Laurens County Hospital.
Born in Williamston, she was daughter of the late Adolphus E. and Lillie Simpson Spearman. She retired from Laurens Shirt Plant and was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Beattie Spearman of Greenwood and a sister, Jean S. Burts of Laurens.
Services will be at 3 today at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of her sister, 1503 W. Main St.
Memorials may be made to Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, 499 Chestnut Ridge Road, Laurens, S.C. 29360.

Willie James Turner

GREENWOOD — Willie James Turner, 60, of 109 McAdams Road, husband of Catherine Anderson Turner, passed away Oct. 28, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Ninety Six, he was a son of Lola Peterson Turner and the late Eugene Turner. He was a member of Youngs Chapel Baptist Church and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Greenwood; a son, Brady Anderson of Hephzibah, Ga.; a daughter, Charlene Turner of Greenwood; three sisters, Earlie Mae Turner of Greenwood and JoAnn Turner and Clara Turner, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; and four grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Myra E. Brown

GREENVILLE — Myra E. Brown, 75, of 28 Heard Drive, wife of Grover Miller, passed away Oct. 1, 2000.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late James C. Ellenburg and Lessie Horton. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, James K. Lovell of Greenville, Marion K. Lovell of Easley and Vincent L. Brown of Spartanburg; a sister, Angel Padgett of Lloyd, Fla.; a granddaughter and a niece of the home, Christy Smith and Robin Musick; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Wednesday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, with burial in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Joyce Chavis

NORTH — Joyce Rice Chavis, 65, of 628 Cook Road, widow of William “Bo” Chavis, passed away Oct. 1, 2000.
Born in Birmingham, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Donald and Annie Watson Rice. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church and retired from Stone Manufacturing.
Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Graham and Cathy Fulmer, both of Lexington and Barbara Rutland of Cope; three sons, Ricky Chavis of North, Micky Chavis of Neeses and David Chavis of Salley; two brothers, Melvin Rice of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Walter Rice of Kinards; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church, Orangeburg, conducted by the Rev. William Welch and the Rev. Charles Carpenter. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home.
Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home is in charge.

Walter Josey

ANTREVILLE — Walter Josey, 83, of 619 Keowee Road, husband of Sallie Todd Taylor Josey, passed away Oct. 1, 2000, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Faith, N.C., he was a son of the late Lafatte and Lillie Coble Josey. He was a Marine Corps World War II veteran and retired from National Automatic Sprinkler Co. with 35 years of service. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; five children; a brother; a sister; and a number of grandchildren.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. today in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson, conducted by the Rev. Niki Ballew.
The family is at the home.
The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson, is in charge.

Kenneth W. Lishka

BATESBURG-LEESVILLE — Kenneth Wayne Lishka, 37, of 105 Camelot Court, husband of Cheryl Oswald Lishka, passed away Oct. 1, 2000.
Born in Aiken County, he was a son of John and Betty Corley Hall. He was an engineer with ABB of Duluth, Ga., and attended East Side Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents of Saluda; his wife of Batesburg-Leesville; two sons, Christopher Wayne Lishka and Kenneth Justin Lishka, both of Batesburg-Leesville; two brothers, Harvey Lishka of Aiken and John Hall of Pomaria; two sisters, Lorie Kapiton of Hudson, Fla., and Valerie Bradley of Saluda; maternal grandfather, Adam B. Fulmer of Graniteville; and paternal grandfather, John Hall Sr. of Anderson.
Services will be at 2 Wednesday at East Side Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bryan Parris. Burial will be in Graniteville Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Milton Shealy Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Hoyt Shead

AIKEN — Hoyt Shead, 54, husband of Brenda Faye Stewart Shead, passed away Oct. 1, 2000.
Born in Statham, Ga., he was a son of the late John Virgil and Mary Francis Patrick Shead. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Angela Gunter of Aiken; a brother, Lewis V. Shead of Ridge Spring; and a sister, Katherine Mathews of Aiken.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Central Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Shellhouse Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 1511 Wire Road, Aiken, S.C. 29805.

Marvin Shumpert

WATERLOO — Marvin Shumpert, of Route 1, 853-A Blakely Road, passed away Sept. 29, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
He was employed by J.P. Stevens Co., Watts Plant.
Survivors include a son, Marvin Shumpert III of Mountville; four daughters, Audrey Leake, Teresa Shumpert, Beverly Shumpert and Crystal Shumpert, all of Mountville; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 Wednesday at Smyrna AME Church, Waterloo, with burial in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of Edith F. Shumpert and Audrey Leake, 906 Mountville Road Extension, Mountville.

Julia E. Wylie

DUE WEST — Julia Eleanor Wylie, 91, passed away Oct. 1, 2000.
Born in Chester, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Ambrose Miller Wylie and Elizabeth Hardeman Wylie.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Wylie Brownlee of Charlotte; and a brother, W. Brown Wylie of Lancaster.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 Thursday at Due West Retirement Center. Graveside services will be at 4 Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mary Grace Yelton

GREENWOOD — Mary Grace Quick Yelton, 79, formerly of Center Street, passed away Oct. 2, 2000, at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center in Laurens.
Visitation is from 6-8 Wednesday at Blyth Funeral Home.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, which is in charge.

James T. Addison Sr.

JOANNA — James Templeton Addison Sr., 86, of Joanna Hereford Farms, husband of Sadie Chandler Addison, passed away Oct. 2, 2000, at Laurens County Hospital.
Born in Ninety Six, he was a son of the late John Lemuel and Beulah Templeton Addison. He was a graduate of Presbyterian College and a member of Kappa Alpha order and the Scotsman Club. He was a member and Elder Emeritus at First Presbyterian Church, Clinton, and a former member and elder at Joanna Presbyterian Church. He provided food service for Joanna Mills from 1938-64, served as a School District 56 board member for 30 years and was a cattle farmer and a member of the board of directors for American Federal Bank.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, James T. Addison Jr. of Clinton; two daughters, Jenny Sease of Salem, Va., and Ann Addison Platt of Statesboro, Ga.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3 today in Rosemont Cemetery, Clinton.
Visitation is at the home.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, East Carolina Avenue, Clinton, S.C. 29325 or to a charity of one’s choice.
Gray Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge.
