Jack Davis

ABBEVILLE — William Jackson “Jack” Davis, 75, of 621 Noble Drive, husband of Betty Perry Davis, passed away Oct. 3, 2000, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late John Oliver Davis Sr. and Lucy Horton Davis. He retired from Milliken Co., Abbeville Plant, with 42 years of service and was a member of Abbeville Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Lynn D. Proctor of Waterloo and Lisa D. Brown of Ansonville, N.C.; three brothers, John R. Davis of Donalds and Ralph Davis and Franklin Davis, both of Abbeville; three sisters, Florene D. Lewis and Mary D. Taylor, both of Abbeville and Lucy D. Blanchett of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 3:30 Thursday at Abbeville Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Ray Massey. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Visitation is from 2-3:15 in the church sanctuary.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Abbeville Pentecostal Holiness Church, 109 Barnett St., Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

David Foxworth

WINNSBORO — Lawrence David Foxworth, 95, widower of Lillie Ellenburg Foxworth, passed away Oct. 2, 2000.
Born in Lone Star, he was a son of the late Henry B. and Annie Haigler Foxworth. He was a member of Stephen Greene Baptist Church and a retired employee of UniRoyal Inc.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Eldon (Eleanor) Boyce of West Columbia and Mrs. John (Evelyn) Smith of Edenton, N.C.; two brothers, John D. Foxworth of Dalton, N.Y., and W.F. Foxworth of Ware Shoals; a sister, Diane Slavic of West Columbia; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 today at Stephen Greene Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Taylor Wells. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Yancy L. Hite Jr.

AIKEN — Yancy Love Hite Jr., 82, husband of Emelia “Millie” Blachut Hite, passed away Oct. 2, 2000.
Born in Johnston, he was a son of the late Yancy L. Hite Sr. and Manila Merchant Hite. He was a retired foreman for Jet Foods in Garfield, N.J.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Y. Hite of Scranton, Pa.; two daughters, Geraldine DeVito of Sussex, N.J., and Dona Marie Hite of Warwick, N.Y.; two brothers, Earl Hite Sr. and Theodore Hite, both of Aiken; two sisters, Lorrie Storey and Pearl Day, both of Aiken; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Aiken Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at George Funeral Home.

Ernest Hughes

GREENWOOD — Ernest Hughes, 82, of 114 Segers Drive, widower of Salina Mitchell Hughes, passed away Oct. 3, 2000, at Magnolia Manor.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late James William and Minnie Poore Hughes. He was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church and retired from Anderson Construction Co.
Survivors include a son, James E. Hughes of Anderson; three sisters, Pauline Landreth of Greenwood, Selma Payton of Belton and Mary Barnes of Anderson; two brothers, Haynie Hughes of Anderson and James Hughes of Marietta, Ga.; a great-grandchild and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. J.B. Abercrombie. Burial will be in Mount Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Mike Miller, Ronnie Townsend, Ronnie Landreth, Bobby Payton, Charles Payton and Charles Vaughn.
Visitation is from 7-9 Thursday at the funeral home.
Family members are at their respective homes.

Charles E. Layton

NEWBERRY — Charles E. Layton, 70, of 519 Boundary St., husband of Mary Ellen Clamp Layton, passed away Oct. 3, 2000, at his home.
Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late Ernest H. and Dessa Minor Layton. He graduated from Newberry College and received a master’s degree in education from Clemson University. An Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he retired from the Newberry County school system where he served as principal at Little Mountain and Gallman Elementary schools. He also taught at Seneca High School. He was a member of O’Neal Street United Methodist Church, and he and his wife were directors of Cherry Hill Camp Ground, U.S. Forest Service, for 19 years.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Charles E. Layton Jr. of Saluda and Lew Layton of Newberry; two daughters, Mary Hawkins of Newberry and Lynn Beckwith of Clemson; a sister, Sue Layton Davenport of Newberry; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 Thursday at O’Neal Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Sam Marcengill. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at Whitaker Funeral Home.

E. Hugh O’Neil

ABBEVILLE — Earl Hugh O’Neil, 66, of 303 Washington St., passed away Oct. 2, 2000.
Born in Raleigh, N.C., he was a son of Mildred Lee Hooten O’Neil and the late Earl O’Neil. He was owner and operator of The Emporium. Of the Christian faith, he assisted with counseling of prisoners at the Abbeville County Farm and was a member of the Kairos Ministry.
Survivors include his mother of Abbeville.
Memorial services will be at 4:30 Thursday at Erskine College Chapel, Due West, conducted by the Rev. Jennings Hucks and the Rev. Jim McManis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbia.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, S.C. 29621.

Edna A. Outz

ELBERTON, Ga. — Edna Anderson Outz, of 109 Auld Ave., widow of Arthur Boyd Outz Jr., passed away Oct. 3, 2000, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
Born in Elbert County, she was a daughter of the late Henry Clayborn and Sara Elizabeth Clark Anderson. She was a homemaker and a member of Dove’s Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Rhodes of Elberton; two sons, Ronald Outz of Elberton and Arthur Boyd Outz III of Lavonia; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Thursday at Dove’s Creek Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Marshall Tribble, the Rev. Kent Barrett and the Rev. Bill Eaton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are Marc Rhodes, Daniel Outz, Clay Outz, Perry Cooper Outz, Pete Anderson, Lanier Anderson, Hal Bruce Haynes, Neal Gaines, Bobby Breedlove and Furman Trotter.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Berry Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Daniel Outz, 1335 Grady Cleveland Road, Elberton.

Robert W. Shaw

WARE SHOALS — Robert W. Shaw, 95, widower of Ida Tumblin Shaw, passed away Oct. 1, 2000, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, N.C.
Born in Lowndesville, he was a son of the late George Weston and Rosa Jane Loftis Shaw. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Greenwood, and a retired employee of Riegel Textile Corp.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. William B. (Jane Shaw) Nunnery of Cary, N.C., with whom he lived; a sister, Bertha Embler of Greenwood; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Thursday at Parker-White Funeral Home, conducted by Father Richard Harris. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is at Greenwood Memorial Gardens after the burial service.
The family is at the Inn on the Square, Greenwood.

Raskey Smallwood

SALISBURY, N.C. — Raskey Smallwood, 89, of 835 Bonanza Drive, widower of Amie Wilbanks Smallwood, passed away Oct. 3, 2000, at Rowan Regional Memorial Hospital in Salisbury.
Born in Banks County, Ga., he was a son of the late Jape and Georgia Brown Smallwood. He was a retired employee of Greenwood Mills, Greenwood County, S.C., and a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and Siloam Baptist Church, Ninety Six, S.C.
Survivors include a daughter, Beatrice S. Hall of Salisbury; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Steve Crittendon.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 373, Ninety Six, S.C. 29666.
