Estelle J. Downs
Estelle Jordan Downs, 86, of 1705 Skylyn Drive, Spartanburg passed away Sunday, April 8, 2001 in the Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Malone and Sadie Strom Jordan and widow of the late Hadden 'Skip' Jordan. She was retired from Spartan Undies and a former member of the South Main Baptist Church in Greenwood.
Surviving are one son, Robert L. Williamson of Savannah, GA. Two grandchildren, Dyson Williamson of Mt. Airy, MD and Jill Williamson Kiernan of Charlotte, N.C. Four great-grandchildren, Joey Kiernan, Cayden Williamson, Kristen Kiernan and Shannon Kiernan. One brother, Edward Jordan of Greenwood, SC. Two sisters, Ruby Jordan Scardato of Rochester, NY and Roxie Jordan Bouknight of New Ellington, SC. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marion Jordan and J.W. 'Kitty' Jordan.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lanford-Pollard Chapel conducted by the Rev. John Buchanan and the Rev. Robert C. Morgan. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.
Committal services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Oakbrook Memorial Park in Hodges, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
The family will be at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. J.W. (Louise) Jordan, 114 Brian Drive, Hillbrook.
Lanford-Pollard Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret McMahan
ABBEVILLE — Margaret Strickland McMahan, 78, of 901 Washington St., wife of John Matthew McMahan, passed away April 8, 2001, at her home.
Born in Broadway, N.C., she was a daughter of the late William Henry and Grace Wicker Strickland. She was a homemaker and a member of Abbeville First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the TEL Sunday School Class and the Cheryl Camp Mission Group.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Brenda Grace M. Bragg of Downey, Calif.; a son, John L. McMahan of Greenwood; two sisters, Florence Spence of Wilmington, N.C., and Sarah Matthews of Broadway; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 Thursday at Abbeville First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Reiny Koschel. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-9 Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Abbeville First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 825, Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

Jannie Mae Metcalf
McCORMICK — Jannie Mae Metcalf, 85, of 312 Pine St., widow of Leroy Metcalf, passed away April 5, 2001, at McCormick Health Care Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Charley and Roxanna B. Briggs. She attended Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, Akron, Ohio, and was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Genieva Alexander, Jeanette Doyle, Lisa Scott and Dorothea Williams, all of Akron and Tawanda Nurse of Detroit; a brother, Johnnie L. Briggs Sr. of Bradley; two sisters, Elease Adams and Frances Briggs, both of McCormick; and grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Wednesday at Mount Hermon Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Donald Booker, pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is today at the home of Johnnie Briggs, 5210 McCormick Highway, Bradley.
Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood, is in charge.

Bob Stanley
GREENWOOD — Robert M. “Bob” Stanley, 59, of 1229 Woodlawn Road, passed away April 10, 2001, at his home.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

GREENWOOD — William Orville “Bill” Suber, 51, of 116 Sheldon Ave., passed away April 10, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
The family is at the home.

Louise M. Ellerbe
GREENWOOD — Louise Milne Ellerbe, 82, of 219 Sherard Road, widow of Capt. John C. Ellerbe, passed away April 26, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home.

Gary Foley
WATERLOO — Gary Don Foley, 57, of 513 Bobwhite Drive, passed away April 27, 2001 at his home.
Born in Oklahoma City, Okla., he was a son of the late Charles Raymond and Betty Ann Bills Foley. He was a truck driver for Bobby McKnight and worked as a correctional officer for the Indiana Boys School. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his widow, Yulonda Foley of the home; a son, Charles Foley of Waterloo; a daughter, Kelly Culbreath of Greenwood; a sister, Sherry Hoos of Jacksonville, Fla.; his stepmother, Lupe Foley of Montabella, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Echo Hogan and Georgia Hogan, both of Irving, Texas ; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 Tuesday at Elmwood Cemetery in Ninety Six, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Sealy.
Visitation is from 7-9 at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Tony Glanton
EDGEFIELD — Tony Glanton, 35, of 16 Glanton Drive, passed away April 27, 2001.
Funeral services will be May 1 at 2 at Republican Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Willie Patten. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

GREENWOOD — Charles E. Lear, 63 of 206 Anchor Road, widower of Faye Anne Robbins Lear, passed away April 28, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home.

Helen Litaker
CHINA GROVE, N.C. — Helen Elizabeth Butler Litaker, 71, of 1855 Brown Road, wife of Harold Litaker, passed away April 27, 2001, at the home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Annie Brown Butler. She retired from Stayon Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Thyatira Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include, her husband of the home; a son, Wayne Litaker of Ellenboro, N.C.; two daughters, Diane Tilson of Boone, N.C. and Carol King of Salisbury, N.C.; three sisters, Jesse Mae Prince, Christine White, and Sandra Hasting, all of Greenwood; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 4 today at Thyatira Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Malcolm Bullock. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 3-4 at the church’s parlor.
The family is at the home.

Albert Martin
JOHNSTON — Albert Martin, 50, of 513 Church St. passed away April 26, 2001.
Funeral services will be April 30, at 2 at China Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Willie Patten. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the home of Charlie Martin or at the G.L Brightharp and Sons Mortuary after 2 today.

Wayne Mills
GREENWOOD - Mr. Wayne T. Mills, 48, of 233 East Cambridge Street, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ron Drawdy officiating. Burial was at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Travis Park Cemetery in Saluda, S.C.
Mr. Mills, a native of Aiken, had lived in Greenwood. He was a drywall finisher. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude Deloach Mills.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Harold and Sandra Mills, Thomson; a daughter, Kelly Mills Brown, Greenwood; two grandsons, Kyle and Kendall Brown, both of Greenwood; a brother, Geoffrey Mills, Phoenix City, Ala.; and six sisters: Cindy Hill, Columbia; Charlotte Mills, Piedmont, S.C.; Alana Godwin, Ackworth, Ga.; Teresa Beatty and Michele Minton, both of Thomson and Paula Barr Capac, Michigan.

R.E. ‘Ed’ Padgett
EDGEFIELD — The Rev. R. E. “Ed” Padgett, 82, husband of Margaret Huff Padgett, of Augusta Road, passed away April 27, 2001, at Edgefield County Hospital.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a member of Faith Temple Holiness Church. He pastored in Saluda County for 41 years and founded Faith Temple Holiness Church, where he served until his retirement in 1998.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janice P. Whatley, of Edgefield; two sons, Jimmy Padgett of Edgefield and Robert E. “Bobby” Padgett Jr. of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a brother, the Rev. C. P. “Pat” Padgett of Rutherfordton, N.C.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 on Monday at Faith Temple Holiness Church. Burial will be at Eastview Cemetery in Edgefield.
The family will be at the home and receive friends from 6-8 Sunday at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.
Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home is in charge.

Ruth Dantzler
NEWBERRY - Ruth Dantzler, 72, passed away Friday, July 27, 2001 at the Jesse Frank Hawkins Nursing Home in Newberry. Ms. Dantzler was a daughter of the late Martha Virginia Eakin Dantzler and Lewis Marshall Dantzler of Abbeville.
Ms. Dantzler was a graduate of Abbeville High School and of Columbia College at Columbia, SC. She was a religious education major and she worked at the Will Lou Gray Opportunity School for several years. She was part owner of the Abbeville Credit Bureau until she retired. She was a member of the Methodist faith.
She lived in Greenwood for many years before entering Jesse Frank Hawkins Nursing Home. The family would like to thank the staff of the Jesse Frank Hawkins Nursing Home for the special care given to Ms. Dantzler.
Ms. Dantzler is survived by her sister, Virginia D. Lovelace and brother-in-law, O. Fred Lovelace, Sr. of Columbia; two nieces, Lynn L. Willis and her husband, Dr. Sam Marsh Willis of Irmo, Karen L. Lovelace and her husband, Steven Lee Hyatt, Sr. of Chapin; a nephew, Dr. Oscar Lovelace and his wife, Mary A. Lovelace of Prosperity; great nieces, Virginia Hyatt, Carter Willis, Sarah Hyatt and Erin Lovelace; and great nephews, Ben Lovelace, Hayden Willis, Spencer Lovelace, Luke Lovelace and Lee Hyatt.
Ms. Dantzler donated her body for medical research to the Medical University of SC in Charleston. A private memorial service was held Sunday for the immediate family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hyatt. Dr. Oscar Lovelace was in charge of the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Easter Seals of SC, 3020 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC 29203, the Living Water Foundation, Prosperity, SC or the Jessie Frank Hawkins Nursing Home, 1330 Kinard Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or the charity of one's choice.
