Marie W. White
GREENWOOD — Services for Marie W. White, of 132 Russell St., will be Sunday at 2:30 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Raymond Adams, assisted by Dexter Cannon. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30.
Pallbearers are White’s nephews.
Flower bearers are White’s nieces.
The family is at the home of White’s sister, Eula Mae Cannon, 128 Russell St., Greenwood.
Parks Funeral home is in charge.

Hugh Beasley
HODGES — Hugh Alton Beasley, 97, formerly of Pickens Creek Road, widower of Ora Faith Mitchell “Fay” Beasley, passed away Aug. 19, 2001, at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in Lavonia, Ga., he was a son of the late James F. and Elizabeth Evans Beasley. A 1929 graduate of Furman University School of Law, he founded the Beasley Law Firm in Greenwood in 1929, and later retired from The Beasley and Beasley Law Firm with his son, the late John F. Beasley. He was a former Eighth Judicial Circuit Solicitor, serving from 1936-52. He also served as a Navy flight commander during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Beasley Cassels of Montgomery, Ala.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3 Saturday at First Baptist Church of Lavonia, Ga., by Dr. Larry Finger.
Visitation is from 2-3 Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Lavonia, P.O. Box 47, Lavonia, Ga. 30553.

Preston Bosdell
GREENWOOD — William Preston Bosdell, 83, of 124 E. Laurel Ave., widower of Ollie Holsomback Bosdell, passed away Aug. 21, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late William Addison and Mary Lou Edwards Bosdell. He retired from the Army National Guard and had served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 20, the Greenwood Country Club, the Piedmont Seniors Golf and a member and inactive deacon of South Main Street Baptist Church, where he taught Junior Sunday School Class for 40 years. He was also a volunteer with Self Memorial Hospital for 23 years and with the Junior Golf Program.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Linda) King of Savannah, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Lavinia Carpenter and Mrs. Olin H. (Gladys) Lawson, both of Greenwood; and a brother, Francis H. Bosdell of Clemson.
Services will be conducted at 3 Wednesday at South Main Street Baptist Church by the Revs. David Patterson, Richard McWhite and David Corbett. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers are Chip Crawford, Jason Crawford, Joe Gilbert, Vance Wells, Al Bosdell and Jack McDowell.
Honorary escorts are active and inactive deacons of the church, members of Greenwood Country Club Senior Golfers, retired members of the S.C. National Guard, Lawrence Breazelle, Nick Anagnost, Ben Harvin, Tommy Pendley, John McCravy and Joe Mathews.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to South Main Street Baptist Church Building Fund or the Ollie H. Bosdell Trust Fund, P.O. Box 1093, Greenwood, S.C. 29648.

Ansel Colson Jr.
SALUDA — Ansel Colson Jr., 62, of 301 No. 4 Greenwood Highway, passed away Aug. 19, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Walterboro, he was a son of the late Ansel Colson Sr. and Evelyn Warren Colson. He was employed with Greenwood Mills, Durst Plant.
Survivors include two brothers, John A. Colson of Saluda and Tommy Ackerman of Walterboro; and a sister, Betty Robertson of Round O. Graveside services are at 3 Wednesday in Travis Park Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Louie Murray.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.

Fannie Mae Harrison
GREENWOOD — Fannie Mae “Granny” Harrison, 92, widow of George Gordon Harrison Sr., passed away Aug. 21, 2001, at her home.
Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late William Robert and Josephine Ferquron Reynolds. She was a member of Living Waters Tabernacle.
Survivors include two sons, Charles William Harrison of the home and Robert G. Harrison of Lake Greenwood; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Harrison Lakeside Cemetery, Old Laurens Road, by the Rev. R.E. Harrison. Grandsons are pallbearers.
Visitation is from 7-9 Wednesday at Parker-White Funeral Home. The family is at 4818 Old Laurens Road.

‘Bunk’ Monroe
GREENWOOD — John Francis “Bunk” Monroe, 90, of 238 Grace Terrace, husband of Verena Peterson Monroe, passed away Aug. 20, 2001, at his home.
Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late John Francis Sr. and Minnie Kay Latimer Monroe. He was a Greenwood High School graduate and a retired employee of H.D. Payne Oil Co., serving for 60 years. He was a former volunteer with the Greenwood City Fire Department for more than 45 years and a member and former usher of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Julia) Gordon and Mrs. Horace (Caroline) Whitmire Jr., both of Greenwood; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 Wednesday at Blyth Funeral Home by Dr. J. William Harris. Private family burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Tripp Whitmire, John Whitmire, Mike Cate, Douglas Benjamin and Dane Gordon.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Elizabeth M. Owen
EDENTON, N.C. — Elizabeth Moody Owen, 81, of the 1300 block of Paradise Road, widow of Robert L. Owen, passed away Aug. 19, 2001, at Chowan Hospital.
Born in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Theodore L. and Sara Ennalls Willoughby Moody. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Prophet’s of Rawanda, Morehead City.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lou Strohl of Edenton; a son, Robert E. Owen of Greenwood, S.C.; a sister, Carolyn Burbage of Baltimore; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sept. 15, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Prophet’s of Rawanda, by the Rev. John Grayson. Inurnment is in the church niche.
Memorials may be made to one’s local food pantry or to Habitat for Humanity.

NINETY SIX — Ruthie Leigh Fellows Potts, 75, of 5711 Highway 178 South, passed away Aug. 21, 2001, at National Health Care in Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville, which is in charge.

Josephine P. Slye
DONALDS — Josephine Picolo Slye, 70, of 3879 Highway 20, passed away Aug. 20, 2001, at Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville, which is in charge.

Otis D. White
PLUM BRANCH — Otis D. White, 88, of Witetown, widower of Lucile Spence White, passed away Aug. 20, 2001, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Plum Branch, Old Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Willie and Mary Long White. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retiree of Rocky River Mill.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Plum Branch Cemetery by the Rev. James Wiley.
The family is at the home of Mrs. Eva Williamson, Chestnut Ridge Road.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Strom Funeral Home.

John Winkler
GREENWOOD — John Henry Winkler, 78, of 307 Jackson St., widower of Vivian Shirley Winkler, passed away Aug. 19, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late John Wesley and Maggie Lackey Winkler. He was a high school graduate, a World War II Army veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired from Greenwood Mills, Plant No. 5, and was more recently employed by Gary Russ Chevrolet. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Johnny C. Winkler of Gaffney; two sisters, Mary Medlin of Greenwood and Ann Johnson of Abbeville; and two granddaughters.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blyth Funeral Home by the Rev. E.A. Cooper. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Tim Young, Curtis Mobley, Ronnie Carver, Warren Winkler, Jimmie Dennis, Henry Brown, Fred Raines, Hank Medlin and Jackie Shirley.
Visitation is from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
