Mozella Butler Bivens
SALUDA — Mozella Butler Bivens, 79, passed away Aug. 25, 2001 at the Saluda Nursing Center.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Emma Mobly Butler. She was a member of the Mt. Enon Baptist Church where she was a member of the senior choir.
She was a retired social worker from New York state.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Butler, of Saluda; a sister, Annie J. Harper, of Columbia.
Services are Wednesday at 1 at Mt. Enon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny C. Gantt officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
The family is at the home of her brother, Robert Butler, of 305 North Bouknight Ferry Road, Saluda.
Butler and Sons Funeral Home is in charge.

Marion S. Dorn
EDGEFIELD — Marion Stella Dorn, 83, passed away Aug. 26, 2001, at Edgefield Health Care Center.
A homemaker and retired clerk, she was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Shelby D. Price of Abbeville; a son, Billy Dorn of Edgefield; two sisters, Dorcas Griffis of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Felecia Sands of Georgia; a brother, David Dorn of Columbia; and a grandson.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in McKendree United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Jim Bennett.
Friends may call at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Danny C. Evans
CALHOUN FALLS — Danny C. Evans, 54, of 2229 Seneca St., husband of Shelda Harman Evans, passed away Aug. 25, 2001, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Aaron T. and Myrtle Hawkins Evans. He was owner of Danny’s Fireworks and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; and two sons, Cray Evans and Nicholas Evans, both of the home.
Services will be conducted at 5:30 today at Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Revs. Gene Poole and Lawrence Johnson. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.
Visitation is from 4:30-5:30 today at the church.

Barbara Burris Hanna
LOWNDESVILLE — Barbara Burris Hanna, 68, of 217 Lucille St., wife of Marshall B. Hanna, passed away Aug. 25, 2001.
Born in Iva, she was a daughter of the late William Thomas and Annie Alexander Burris. She was a homemaker and a member of Lowndesville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Marshall Lynn Hanna of Lowndesville; two brothers, William T. Burris Jr. and Thomas E. Burris, both of Iva; two sisters, Norma Craft of Iva and Jettie Frances Nelson of Anderson; and four grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 4 Tuesday at Lowndesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Fred E. Griggs. The body will be placed in the church at 3. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home.

Hettie J. Holmes
COLUMBIA — Hettie J. Holmes, 88, widow of Robert Holmes Jr., of Manor Care Nursing Home, formerly of 3018 Hettie Drive, Blackstock, passed away Aug. 25, 2001, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia.
A daughter of the late Joseph and Sallie Harrison Hemphill, she was a member of Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church, Blackstock.
Survivors include two sons, Ezekiel J. Hemphill Sr. of Columbus, Ohio, and Dr. W.T. Holmes of Greenwood; three daughters, Sallie M. Brown and George Ann Breazeale, both of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Louise B. Holmes of Columbia; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 Tuesday at Love Presbyterian Church, 221 Columbia St., Chester, by Dr. W.T. Holmes, assisted by pastors Samuel W. Moore and John D. Murdock. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Burial is in Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Blackstock.
Denton Funeral Home, Chester, is in charge.

Bobby Holsonback
PASCAGOULA, Miss. — Robert David “Bobby” Holsonback, 58, of 1603 Telephone Road, passed away Aug. 24, 2001.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a son of the late Robert Milton and Willie Sue Gambrell Holsonback. He attended Lander College and was a convenience store manager. A Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a member of Abney Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include his stepmother, Daisy Holsonback of Greenwood; and a brother, Harold Holsonback of Matthews, N.C.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Stephen Owens.
Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood, is in charge.

P.M. Moss
GREENWOOD — Services for P.M. Moss will be conducted at 3 Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. John R. Brightharp, pastor, assisted by the Revs. William H. Booker, Henry Gilchrist and John H. Starks and Bishop Roosevelt Moton. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Honorary escorts are deacons of the church.
Flower bearers are ushers and members the Missionary Society of the church. Visitation is from 7-8 Tuesday at Robinson & Son Mortuary.
The family is at the home of his sister, Clinton and Betty Holloway, 408 Spring Valley Road.

Gordon Payne
GREENWOOD — Gordon N. Payne, 84, of 1116 Phoenix Road, widower of Eulie Mae Still Payne, passed away Aug. 25, 2001 at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Hartwell, Ga, he was a son of the late Charlie Sanford and Cora Welborn Payne. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the military police and a retired employee of Riegel Textiles in Johnston with 42 years service. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Preston Payne, with whom he made his home, Richard K. Payne of Greenwood and George L. Bryan of Gray Court; a daughter, Mary Helen Bryan Able of Greenwood; a sister, Polly Camerato of Plainsville, Conn.; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Blyth Funeral Home by the Revs. Joseph Curtis and Hayes Riddle. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are George L. Bryan Jr., James Gordon Payne, Richard K. Payne Jr., Jonathan Smith, Bryan Christopher Able, Edward Kevin Able and Charles Michael Collins.
Visitation is at the funeral home from 7-9 tonight.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Payne, 1419 E. Durst Ave.

PERRY — Eddie Pugh, 77 passed away Saturday, August 25, 2001 at his home. Services will be announced by Butler and Sons Funeral Home of Saluda.

Jerome M. Spearman
HODGES — Jerome Montgomery Spearman, 58, husband of Alfreda Small Spearman, of 304 Virgin Drive, passed away Aug. 26, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of Lillie Harris Spearman and the late Jerome Spearman. He was a retired educator with Greenwood School District 50 and an Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam conflict. He was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, where he served as Pro-tem of the Steward Board, a member of the Finance Committee, a Sunday School teacher, local lay president and member of the Male Chorus and class leader and public relations director for the Abbeville-Greenwood District of A.M.E. Church. He was also a member of 100 Men in Black. He graduated from Brewer High School Class of 1962 and South Carolina State University and received a master’s degree in mathematics from Clemson University. He was founder and manager of the Greenwood Astro Baseball Team, and founder of the Greenwood County Baseball League. He was owner of Spearman Photography and was presently working as a Student Shadow at Northside Middle School.
Survivors include his wife of the home, his mother of Greenwood, a son, Kedric J. Spearman of Rock Hill, a daughter, LaTonya Spearman Washington of Jefferson, Ind.; a sister, Mildred S. Robinson of Greenwood; and a granddaughter.
Services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church by the Rev. Annette Edwards, pastor, assisted by Elder G.T. Devlin Jr. and the Rev. C.R. Richburg, the Rev. William Moore , Brother Darren Jones , the Rev. George Oliver and the Rev. Larry J. Nelson. The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 a.m. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are John Chiles, the Rev. John Nix, Floyd Gray, Dexter Young, Ben Glover and Ray Freeman, JC Smoot and Ernest Moton.
Honorary escorts are members of the AC Male Chorus, Brewer Class of 1962, 100 Men in Black and Baseball Affiliates.
Flowerbearers are cousins and members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Visitation is at the home Tuesday from 6-8.

Joey Stone
BRADLEY — Joey Benjamin Stone, 39, of 500 Reedy Creek Road, husband of Cynthia Ferguson Stone, passed away Aug. 25, 2001, on Lake Greenwood.
The family is at the home of Cynthia Stone, 2500 Edgefield St., Greenwood, and at the home of his parents, Ben and Kate Stone, 2419 Callison Road, Callison.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Helen Wells
NINETY SIX - Helen Wood Wells, 93, resident of 129 Saluda St., widow of Thomas N. Wells, Sr., passed away August 25, 2001 at Woodruff Health Care in Woodruff.
Born in Greenwood County, May 7, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Lula Beale Wood. She was retired from Greenwood Mills, Ninety Six Plant. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the Greenwood Mills Quarter Century Club.
Mrs. Wells was predeceased by a son, Thomas N. Wells, Jr. and was the last member of her immediate family.
Surviving are two daughters, Myra W. Hancock and her husband Rev. C. Eugene Hancock, of Ninety Six, and June W. Lowery and her husband Harold R. Lowery, of Anderson. A daughter-in-law, Janice O. Wells of Ninety Six, 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Tuesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with Rev. Thomas Cartledge and Rev. Charles Owens offi-ciating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
The family is at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Eugene Hancock, 129 Saluda St. in Ninety Six and will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 Tuesday afternoon.
Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 95 Saluda St., Ninety Six, SC 29666.

Paul S. Willis Sr.
McCORMICK — Paul Singleton Willis Sr., 83, of Route 1, Box 41, widower of Helen Lindley Willis, passed away Aug. 25, 2001, at his home. Born in McCormick, he was a son of the late Charlie and Fannie Singleton Willis. He was the retired owner of the Orange Spot. He was also a former truck driver for Raymond Dunlap Logging Co., a farmer and a member of Republican United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia W. Kelly of McCormick; a brother, Dewey Willis of McCormick; two sisters, Julius W. Jennings of Augusta and Annie W. Lewis of Aiken; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Republican United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bruce Cooley and Dr. Samuel B. George III. Burial is in Overbrook Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jerome Bowick, Wesley Lindley, Junior Gable, G.K. Lindley III, Gary Bentley and Jamie Lindley. Honorary pallbearers are G.K. Lindley, Claude Lindley, Leonard Lindley and Blease Edmunds. Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Strom Funeral Home. The family is at the home of his daughter, Patricia Kelly. Strom Funeral Home is in charge.
