Edward Kilgore
CALHOUN FALLS — Edward Lee Kilgore, 48, of 4785 Highway 72 W., husband of Rhonda M. Manning Kilgore, passed away Aug. 6, 2001, at his home.
Born in Calhoun Falls, he was a son of the late Claude Dewitt and Louise Spence Kilgore. He was an ironworker for C.R. Cotton Construction Co. and a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Adya James of Calhoun Falls; a son, Lee Napier of North Carolina; two sisters, Kathy Grant and Jean Dunn, both of Abbeville; two brothers, Jimmy Kilgore of Calhoun Falls and David Kilgore of Spartanburg; and a grandson.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Latimer Cemetery by the Rev. Jerry Dalton.
The family is at the home of his mother-in-law, Miriam Manning, 145 Fairway Road, Calhoun Falls.

Lisa Marie Pace
DONALDS — Lisa Marie Cassidy Pace, 39, of 8460 Highway 184 Donalds, passed away Aug. 5, 2001, at her home.
Born in Brookhaven, N.Y., she was a daughter of Barbara Brissenden Frost and the late Dennis Frost. She had been an employee of Maxxium Medical in Honea Path.
Survivors include her mother of Las Vegas; a son, Jawn-Paul Hernandez of Donalds; two daughters, Angela Vincent of Rialto, Calif., and Monay Hernandez of Donalds; three brothers, Paul Tierney of Donalds, Shane Frost of Fontana, Calif., and Dennis Tierney of Clinton; and two sisters, Tina Thomson of Las Vegas and Deb Tierney of Ecorse, Mich.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Ware Shoals Cemetery by the Rev. Bruce Chambers.
Pallbearers are Jeff Davis, Paul Tierney, Marshall Miller, Richard Burkes, Larry Griffin and Tony Howard.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Burdell Roundtree
GREENWOOD — Burdell Roundtree, 72, of 109 Oakland St., husband of Julia Roundtree, passed away Aug., 7, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Alex and Mahalia Sullivan Roundtree. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a custodian at Lander University. He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Earl and Claude Roundtree, both of Greenwood; and two sisters, Ollie Roundtree of Greenwood and Emma Mosley of Abbeville.
The family is at the home of his brother at 107 Oakland St.
Services will be announced by Robinson and Son Mortuary.

James W. ‘Bill’ Hilley
CALHOUN FALLS — James William “Bill” Hilley, 70, of 104 Carl St., husband of Rachel Bridges Hilley, passed away Aug. 4, 2001, at his home.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Waymon A. and Hattie Childs Hilley. He was a retired weaver in the textile industry, a member of Lowndesville Pentecostal Holiness Church, and an honorably discharged Korean War Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of the home; and a brother, Thomas Hilley of Calhoun Falls.
Services will be conducted Monday at 2 at Lowndesville Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Scotty R. Willoughby. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Calhoun Falls Funeral Home.

Bob McAlister Jr.
CALLISON — Julian Robert “Bob” McAlister Jr., 72, husband of Maggie “Scottie” Hollingsworth McAlister, passed away Aug. 3, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Julian R. McAlister Sr. and Ida Lee Rush McAlister. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School, a World War II Navy veteran and a retiree of Tom Houston Peanut Co. He was a member of the Omar Temple Shriners and the American Legion and attended Rehoboth United Methodist Church and Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Donnie (Margaret) Whitt and Mrs. Frank (Ann) Workman, both of Greenwood; two sons, Julian Robert “Rob” McAlister III of Callison and Arthur Scott “Art” McAlister of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Russell Brinson of Weaverville, N.C., and Mrs. J.B. McKinney of Greenwood; eight grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 3:30 Monday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Joseph L. Curtis.
Pallbearers are David Whitt, Clark McAlister, Will McAlister, Madison Workman, Tanner Workman and Bill Hollingsworth.
Honorary escorts are Dr. O.M. Cobb, Dr. William Holloway, Dr. Richard Hobson, Jimmy O’Bryant, Joe Dan Elliott, Jack Martin, J.P. Cook, Andrew Cook and Hoyt Hembree.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.

Carrye Mae Ross
GREENWOOD — Carrye Mae Ross, of 518 Marion Ave., passed away Aug. 2, 2001, at Laurens County Hospital in Clinton.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Carrie Sales Ross. She was educated in Greenwood County schools and graduated from North Carolina A&T University. She taught in Greenwood public schools for more than 40 years. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, West Side Community Club No. 1, Club Renaissance, the Negro Business and Professional Women, and a charter member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
She was the last member of her immediate family. Survivors include a niece and nephew reared in the home, Barbara Copeland of Clinton and John R. Susewell of Amityville, N.Y., and a cousin reared in the home, Lucius Ross of Laurel, Md.
An Omega Omega service of Delta Sigma Theta will be conducted at Parks Funeral Home tonight, beginning at 6.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Willie S. Harrison. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are deacons and trustees of the church.
Flower bearers are members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
The family is at the home.

Will Smith
CROSS HILL — Will Irby Smith, 77, of 22 Smith Irwin Road, husband of Lois Parkman Smith, passed away Aug. 3, 2001 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta.
Born in Cross Hill, he was a son of the late Willie Stepp and Dollie Mae Cole Smith. He was a graduate of Cross Hill High School and a World War II Army veteran. He retired from Solutia Inc. (formerly Monsanto), Greenwood. A member of First Baptist Church of Cross Hill and the Men’s Bible Class of the church, he formerly served as Sunday school teacher, Sunday School superintendent, church treasurer and deacon. He was also a member and past Worshipful Master of Cross Hill Masonic Lodge 159 and was past District Deputy Grandmaster of the 13th District. He was a member of the James B. Parrott Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Clinton, and a member of the Laurens Cattleman’s Association.
Survivors include his wife of the home; and three sisters, Mrs. Ollie (Doris) Irwin of Clinton, Mrs. Mike (Agnes) Long of Milton, Fla., and Mrs. Charles (Elaine) Surrett of Ninety Six.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Cross Hill by the Revs. Phillip Wade and Tim Thompson. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 10.
Pallbearers are Larry Wash, Chuck Wells, William Ira Parkman, Robbie Parkman, Mark Parkman and Doug Dilleshaw.
Honorary escorts are members of Masonic Lodge 159, the Men’s Bible Class of the church, along with Bill Noble, Tom Ates, Harvey Foster and Jim Owings.
Visitation is at the funeral home from 7-9 tonight.

Eva Timms
NINETY SIX — Eva Elizabeth Shirley Timms, 78, formerly of 125 Duke St., Ninety Six and Miller Road, Hodges, widow of James Woodrow Timms, Sr., passed away August 3, 2001, at Wesley Commons, Greenwood.
Born November 15, 1922, in Abbeville County, she was the daughter of the late Dewitt Stewart and Ola Jane Johnson Shirley. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to everyone who knew her.
She was retired from Mount Vernon Mills (Riegel), Ware Shoals, and a former employee of Huggins Garment Plant, Due West. She was a faithful member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church, the Bethany Sunday School Class and the Golden Agers of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Surviving is a son, James W. Timms, Jr. (J.W.) and daughter-in-law, Becky of Ninety Six; a grandson, James Richard Timms (Ricky) and his wife, Kimberly of Ninety Six; a granddaughter, Amy Rebecca Timms Shaw and her husband, David of Baytown, TX; two great-grandchildren, Jacob David Shaw of Baytown, TX and Kate Elizabeth Timms of Ninety Six; three sisters, Daucey (Doll) Gambrell of Fountain Inn, Cleo Cooley of Lincolnton, GA and Mary Lindsay of Honea Path; two brothers Fred Shirley of Taylors and Larry Shirley of Donalds. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Woodrow Timms, Sr., July 29, 1987; a son, Larry Monroe Timms, December 16, 1946; two sisters, Effie Bratcher and Edith Freeman; two brothers, W. Harrison Shirley and D.S. Shirley, Jr.
Services will be at 3:00 PM Monday, Walnut Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Rodney Jeanes officiating. Burial will be at Providence Cemetery, Hodges. The body will be placed in the church at 2:00 PM.
Pallbearers: Rick Timms, David Shaw, Tommy Balchin, Lindsey Burnett, Oscar Burnett, Jr., and Keith Butler, Truman Gambrell, Wayne Lindsay.

James R. ‘Honey’ Rhynes
McCORMICK — James Rufus “Honey” Rhynes, 64, of 25 Sandrock Road, passed away Feb. 14, 2001, at his home.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Rufus and Gennelle Settles Rhynes. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, the Springfield Brotherhood and Sandrock Community Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Henry (Angelia) Jones of Batesburg; a stepson, Thomas Gilchrist of Maryland; six sisters, Mrs. Charlie (Lorene) Gilchrist, Mrs. Charlie T. (Cora) Cummings and Annie R. Page, all of Edgefield and Mrs. James (Beatrice) Scott, Mrs. Charlie (Sherry) Adams and Gennette Palmore, all of Saluda; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 Sunday at Springfield Baptist Church, Highway 25, Edgefield, conducted by the Revs. Everrette Chandler, Henry F. Gilchrist and W.H. McCain. The body will be placed in the church at 3. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are nephews and friends.
Flower bearers are nieces and friends.
The family is at the home of a sister, Beatrice and James Scott, 1941 Highway 378, Saluda.
Butler and Sons Funeral Home, Saluda, is in charge.

Rufus Sanders
WARE SHOALS — Rufus Sanders, 69, of Ware Shoals, passed away Feb. 16, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Services will be announced by Robinson-Walker Funeral Service of Ware Shoals, which is in charge.

James T. ‘Red’ Thomas
SALUDA — James T. “Red” Thomas, 81, of Saluda, widower of the late Ella Grace Thomas, has died.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Claudie and Lizzie Lott Thomas. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Saluda and was a veteran of the Army.
Survivors include a son, Ernest J. Thomas of Batesburg-Leesville; three daughters, Helen T. Johnson, Shirlean Thomas and Claudean Jones, all of Saluda; and a sister, Louise Etheridge of Saluda.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethleham Baptist Church.
