JOHNS ISLAND — Amos Henley Drawdy, 49, of 2482 River Road, passed away July 23, 2000, at his home.
Born in Colleton County, he was a son of Margaret Ramsey Drawdy Peters and the late Willis Floy Drawdy. He was an equipment operator with Leland Farms and was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, Walterboro.
Survivors include his mother of Walterboro; a son, Shawn Drawdy of Warrenton, Va.; two brothers, Willis Floy Drawdy Jr. of Neodesha, Kan., and Robert Drawdy of Manassas, Va.; a half brother, Jerry Peters of Charleston; three stepbrothers, Lamar Peters Jr. of Bamberg, Dale Peters of Texas and Jimmy Peters of Ehrhardt; a sister, Dr. Rebecca Lee Grigg of Greenwood; and three stepsisters, Grace Suter of Summerville, Gayle Davis of Beaufort and Wanda McLaine of Columbia.
Services will be at 3 Thursday at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Clark Hughes and the Rev. John Carignan. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 6-9 tonight at Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Mount Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3220 Burlington Road, Walterboro, S.C. 29488.

ABBEVILLE — Ellen Dorothy Eakin passed away July 26, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Lyman J. Fossett Sr.

ABBEVILLE — Lyman “Bo” Judson Fossett Sr., 76, of 1383 Highway 20, husband of Evelyn Cochran Fossett, passed away July 25, 2000, at Abbeville Nursing Home.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Lyman Maxwell and Lena Mae Stalnaker Fossett. He was a retired employee of Greenwood Telephone Co. and a member of Abbeville Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Robert Fossett of the home and Lyman J. Fossett Jr. of Abbeville; two brothers, Lee Fossett of Rockingham, N.C., and Jim Fossett of Piedmont; two half brothers, Ray Fossett and Angil Fossett, both of Piedmont; a sister, Virginia Fudge of Inman; a half sister, Bonnie Thomas of Piedmont; and a grandson.
Services will be at 2 today at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. John Kipp. Burial will be in Long Cane Cemetery.
Visitation is from 1-2 today at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of a son, Lyman J. Fossett Jr., 104 Bowie St., Abbeville.
Memorials may be made to Abbeville Presbyterian Church.

Tammy Hill

CALHOUN FALLS — Tammy Greene Hill, 32, of 105 Amanda St., wife of John E. Hill, passed away July 24, 2000, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of Charles W. and Dorothy Young Greene. She was employed in the administration department of Abbeville County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Abbeville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Stephanie Renee Hill and Cassandra Marlain Hill, both of the home; her parents of Abbeville; and a sister, Virginia G. Kidd of Abbeville.
Services will be at 1 Thursday at Abbeville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, with Anthony Davis officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville.
The family is at the home of her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Randall Kidd, 205 Pinckney St., Abbeville.
Memorials may be made to Abbeville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 205 Pinckney St., Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

David D. Jennings

COLUMBIA — David D. Jennings, 78, husband of Katherine Kitchings Jennings, passed away July 24, 2000, at Dorn VA Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late James H. and Allie Mae Johnston Jennings. He served in the Marine Corps from 1942-45, with the Third Marine Division in Bouganville and Guadalcanal. He attended Wilson Teachers College and American University in Washington , D.C. He worked as an assistant sergeant-at-arms and postmaster of the U.S. Senate for 22 years and retired as Richland County Magistrate at Horrell Hill, serving from 1975-88. He was president of the South Carolina Magistrates Association in 1984 and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Columbia; three sons, David D. Jennings Jr. of Fredricksburg, Va., William Johnston Jennings of Simpsonville and John Andrew Jennings of Charleston; a sisters, Leila J. Chappell of Dawsonville, Ga.; a brother, Jack W. Jennings of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; five grandchildren and a step-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Temple Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James W. Salter. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Greenlawn Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church Building Fund, 806 Universal Drive, Columbia, S.C. 29209 or the Alzheimer’s Fund.

Willie Marion Jones

ABBEVILLE — Willie Marion Jones, 79, of 130 Oak Lawn Drive, passed away July 25, 2000, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in McCormick, he was a son of the late Hughey and Louise Tenant Jones. He was a retired maintenance technician with the S.C. Department of Highways, Abbeville. He was a Navy veteran and a member of Cypress Chapel AME Church, where he was a steward.
Survivors include four daughters, Sylvia Jones, Pearly Goodwin, Evelyn Jones and Shirley Jones, all of Abbeville; a grandson and a granddaughter reared in the home, Orlando Jones of Yorktown, Va., and Nicolette Thomas of Abbeville; four brothers, Clarence Jones of Chicago, Hughey Jones of Abbeville and Jason Jones and Alexander Jones, both of Detroit; two sisters, Frances Johnson of Chicago and Allie Mae Jones of Abbeville; 15 other grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Richie Funeral Home, which is in charge.

WARE SHOALS — Kathleen Rogers King, 84, of 17 Sparks Ave., wife of Ashby S. King, passed away July 26, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Parker-White Funeral Home, which is in charge.

William F. Presnell

ROAN MOUNTAIN, Tenn. — William Frank “Shorty” Presnell, 87, of 194 Old Buck Mountain Road, husband of Emma Hamby Presnell, passed away July 21, 2000, at Charles A. Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, N.C.
Born in Carter County, he was a son of the late Abraham Lincoln and Dorothy Harrison Presnell. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Banner Elk, N.C.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Lloyd Presnell of Elizabethton, Dale Presnell of Newland, N.C., and Harry Presnell of Roan Mountain; seven daughters, Frankie Bushey, Phyllis Howell and Luster Meints, all of Greenwood, S.C., Taffey Jo Hoopes of Elk Grove, Calif., Brenda Robinson of Raleigh, N.C., Angela Voigt of Banner Elk, N.C., and Jean Johnson of Forest City, N.C.; 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Tetrick Funeral Home was in charge.

Michael Anthony Simmons

CLINTON — Michael Anthony Simmons, 32, of 101 E. Bluford St., husband of Tammy Boles Simmons, passed away July 24, 2000, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Clinton, he was a son of Jerry and Raye Shelton Simmons, a former employee of Clinton Mills and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his parents of Clinton; and a sister, Melanda E. Lanier of Clinton.
Services will be 3 Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, with burial in Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-9 Thursday at Gray Funeral Home.
The family is at his parents’ home, 307 Gordon St., Clinton.

SPARTANBURG — James Melvin Vines, 82, of 117 Summit Hills Drive, husband of Ellena Kay Vines, passed away July 25, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.

W.T. Davis Blake

ABBEVILLE — W.T. Davis Blake, 55, husband of Marilyn Drayton Blake, passed away July 27, 2000, at his home.
Born in Kingstree, he was a son of the late James Ivan Blake and Inez Davis Blake Jernigan. Formerly of Andrews, he attended the University of South Carolina and served in the Army. He was an insurance agent for Life of Georgia Insurance Co. and a former district manager in Spartanburg. He was a certified life underwriter. He lived in Abbeville for many years and was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, Greenwood, and the United Methodist Men.
Survivors include his wife of Abbeville; a son, Frank Jefrey{* cq *} Blake of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Meredith Drayton Blake and Elizabeth Davis Blake, both of Abbeville; a brother, James Ivan Blake Jr. of Plantation, Fla.; and two granddaughters.
Services will be at 3 today at Mayer Funeral Home, Georgetown, conducted by the Rev. Ken Timmerman. Burial will be in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church Building Fund, 550 Highway 72 Bypass N.W., Greenwood, S.C. 29649.

Essie Lee Ethridge

GREENWOOD — Services for Essie Lee Ethridge, of 104 Spring Valley Road, will be at noon Monday at Springfield Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Andy Young, assisted by Pastor Bobby Chiles and Pastor Jessie Simmons. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is from 6-7 Sunday at Robinson and Son Mortuary.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Teresa D. Henderson, 128 Sample St.

Bill Hawthorne Sr.

ABBEVILLE — Charles William “Bill” Hawthorne Sr., 78, of 117 Bowie St., husband of Grace Smith Hawthorne, passed away July 28, 2000, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Due West, he was a son of the late Charles Lee and Ethel Nickles Hawthorne. He worked for the City of Abbeville Electric Department for 38 years, served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was a member of Abbeville Volunteer Fire Department for 38 years. He was also a member of Clinton Lodge No. 3 AFM, Woodmen of the World and Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Charles William Hawthorne Jr. of St. George, Ga., and Steven S. Hawthorne and Roger C. Hawthorne, both of Abbeville; a daughter, Susan H. Scott of Elberton, Ga.; a brother, Carroll Hawthorne of Due West; three sisters, Mrs. Newell (Mae) Bowie and Mrs. James (Agnes) Latimer, both of Due West and Mrs. Dudley (Dora) Hewitt of Florence; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Sunday at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Darren Hook and the Rev. Mel Arant{* cq *} . Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 6:30-8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
