Faye Ricks

DILLON — Faye Ricks, 43, passed away June 2, 2000.
Born in Dillon, she was a daughter of Mary Smith Ricks and the late Jessie Tillman Ricks. She was a building permit secretary for the City of Greenville, N.C. and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother of Dillon; a daughter, Cassie Mozingo of Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, Kenneth Ricks of Florence and Jesse Ricks of Greenwood; and a sister, Betty Hubbard of Lumberton, N.C.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. today in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Kannaday’s Funeral Home is in charge.

Susan O. Williams

GREENWOOD — Susan Ouzts Williams, 84, formerly of Kirksey, passed away June 5, 2000, at National Health Care of Greenwood.
Born in Edgefield County, she was daughter of the late Goode Mobley Williams Sr. and Sue Ouzts Williams. She graduated from Lander College and taught school for 41 years. She taught in Chesterfield and Sumter counties and Ridge Spring and retired from Greenwood High School, where she taught typing for many years. She was a member of Mt. Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Max (Sarilla ) Gulledge of Greenwood and a brother, Jack P. Williams of Columbia.
Graveside services will be at 3 today in Mt. Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family is at the home of her sister, 127 Crescent Road, Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 108 Mountain Creek Road, Troy S.C. 29848.

Nellie Beddingfield

NINETY SIX — Nellie Duncan Beddingfield, 79, of 108 Berry Drive, widow of Dewey Beddingfield, passed away June 8, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, which is in charge.

Billy L. Spearman

GREER — Billy Lucion “Bill” Spearman, 68, of 205 Justin Drive, husband of Joyce N. Spearman, passed away June 8, 2000, at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Fred L. and Nellie Babb Spearman. He was a member of Abney Memorial Baptist Church in Greenwood.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Wanda Spearman of Greer and Cindy Burgess of Piedmont; two brothers, H.E. “Bud” Spearman of Greenville and Jack Spearman of Anderson; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 3:30 Saturday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, with entombment in Remembrance Mausoleum.
Visitation is from 2:30-3:30 Saturday at the funeral home.
The family is at 302 Timber Lane Road.

'Nickey' Wells

NINETY SIX — Thomas Nicholus “Nickey” Wells Jr., 63, of 104 Draper St., husband of Janice Ouzts Wells, passed away June 8, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Visitation is from 2-3:30 Sunday at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, which is in charge.

Margaret Wiley

ABBEVILLE — Margaret Bartlett Wiley, 81, of 1263 McDill Road, widow of Melvin P. Wiley, passed away June 7, 2000, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Julius Earle and Celestia Riley Bartlett. She was a homemaker and a member of Sharon United Methodist Church. She also attended Congregational Holiness Church.
Survivors include a son, Robert Earle Wiley of Satellite Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Lavinia Clement and Bonnie Morris, both of Abbeville; a sister, Jane Bartlett of Winterville, Ga.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Saturday at Sharon United Methodist Church, with burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Lavinia Clement, 63 Left Link Road, Abbeville.
Memorials may be made to Sharon United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 246 Sharon Church Road, Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

Sallie Black, 100, ex-teacher

SALUDA— Sallie Edwards “Mrs. Sallie” Black, 100, a former teacher, passed away April 28, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Widow of O.W. Black Jr., she was born in Saluda County, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clark Edwards. She attended Winthrop College and taught in the public schools of Cheraw, Bennetsville and Chesterfield before returning to Saluda County in 1930. She then taught in Batesburg and Saluda schools. After 1932, she helped her husband run their cattle business at The Circle B Ranch. She joined Red Bank Baptist Church in 1937 and served as a children’s Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years and as a director of children’s church. She was the Sunbeam leader, director of the Ridge Association and the WMU at the church for many years. She also worked with the Training Union and BYPU. She was a member of the Saluda Gardens Club, the WCTU and LTL, and served as a substitute teacher and lunchroom supervisor.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Harriet Black Davis of Kings Mountain, N.C.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were at 11:30 a.m. today at Red Bank Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Ramey Funeral Home.

Kathryn Elizabeth Henderson Capici

HILTON HEAD ISLAND — Kathryn Elizabeth Henderson Capici, 77, wife of Anthony J. Capici, passed away April 29, 2000, at her home.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. Henderson and Kate Calvert. She moved to Hilton Head Island in 1972. She retried as an executive secretary with Palmetto Electric and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Weldon (Ronnie Capici) Wall and Mrs. Phillip J. (Kathryn Capici Porter); a brother, Charles A. Henderson of Columbia; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. William Rumsey.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Respite and Resource, 50 Pope Ave., Hilton Head Island, S.C. 29928.
The Island Funeral Home is in charge.

Marie Claxton, 100, retired teacher

GREENWOOD — Marie LeVerne Smith Claxton, a retired school teacher, passed away April 29, 2000, at the Martha Franks Retirement Center, Laurens, at the age of 100.
The widow of M.L. Claxton, she was born in Rocky Ford, Ga., a daughter of the late Dr. Charles Oslin Smith and Mary L. Benedict. She attended Oglethorpe University, taught in Atlanta public schools and was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. She was a charter member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Atlanta, and the Aliae Sunday School Class of the church.
Living in Greenwood since 1953 and formerly of 429 Pennsylvania Ave., she was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenwood and the Benson Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Mount Ariel Chapter of NSDAR, the Greenwood Woman’s Club and the Daffodil Garden Club.
She was the last member of her immediate family. Survivors include nieces and a nephew.
Graveside services will be at 3 Wednesday in Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, conducted by Willard D. Smith.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Leon W. Crouch

BATESBURG — Leon Walter Crouch, 91, widower of Sarah Hann Crouch, passed away April 29, 2000.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Frank W. and Annie Winn Crouch. He worked with the South Carolina Highway Department Engineers from 1928-42 and with the U.S. Engineers from 1942-44. After serving in the Army during World War II, he returned to form Crouch Brothers Farm and Construction. He served on many Saluda County agricultural committees and was named Saluda County Cattleman of the Year in 1993. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, L. Edwin Crouch of Batesburg; a daughter, Mrs. Martin (Linda) Lightsey of Staunton, Va.; a brother, Frank W. Crouch of White Rock; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barr-Price Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Marty Nason. Burial will be in Ridge Crest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are William C. Bodie, Lex Boozer, Ellis Stockman, Fowler Cary, J.F. Wise, Ronnie Howey, Jean Wise and Calvin Jones.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 2220, Batesburg-Leesville, S.C. 29070.
Barr-Price Funeral Home, Batesburg-Leesville, is in charge.

Sam Guilford Jr.

ABBEVILLE — Sam Jefferson Guilford Jr., 65, of 107 Rosemont Terrace, husband of Lottie Jean Ayers Guilford, passed away April 30, 2000, at his home.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Odell Lagroone

GREENWOOD — Odell Lagroone, 72, of 410 Owens, passed away April 29, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Herbert and Sarah Ann Payne Lagroone. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a brother, Tom Lagroone of Greenwood; three sisters, Eula Oesby and Kattie M. Benson, both of Baltimore and Mattie Klugh of Abbeville; and a nephew reared in the home, Randy McBride.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, conducted by Elder O.A. Klugh. Burial will be in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are nephews and nieces.
Visitation is at the home of a niece, Aretha Tompkins, 220 Sylvan Road, Avondale subdivision, Greenwood.
Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge.
