Ruth C. Hingos

CROSS HILL — Ruth C. Hingos, 68, of 571 Puckett Ferry Road, wife of David N. Hingos, passed away April 14, 2001, at her home.
Born in Clinton, she was a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Geneva Alice Smith Lowery. She retired as a youth director and flight chief with the Air Force, and held a rating of GS-12. She was district president of the VFW in Minnesota and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Greenwood.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a brother, Fred Lowery of Clinton; and a sister, Shirley Childs of Cross Hill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Greenwood, with burial in Rosemont Cemetery, Clinton.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 Tuesday at Gray Funeral Home, Clinton, with a Christian Wake Service at 8:30.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Laurens, 16 Peachtree St., Clinton, S.C. 29325. Gray Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge.

Dorothy Kipp

FAIR PLAY — The Rev. Dorothy Kipp, 68, of 180 Keese Lane, wife of Dr. John Kipp, passed away April 15, 2001, at her home.
Born in Quincy, Mass., she was a daughter of the late John Bingay and Eva Winifred McCall Hawes. She was a retired minister and a member of the Presbyterian Church USA Ministers.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, John David Kipp of Upper St. Clair, Pa., and Robert Lewis Kipp of Mount Lebanon, Pa.; a daughter, Katherine Louise Kipp of Watkinsville, Ga.; a brother, John Bingay Hawes Jr. of Oviedo, Fla.; a sister, Eleanor Hawes Gale, Colville, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Abbeville Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Revs. John Timmerman, Charles Elliot and John Parks.
Memorials may be made to Abbeville Presbyterian Church or Little Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Eula V. Massey

ABBEVILLE — Miss Eula V. Massey, of 601 Haigler St., passed away April 14, 2001, at her home.
Born in McCormick County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Moses and Ruth Watson Massey. She was educated in Abbeville County public schools and received a bachelor’s degree from Allen University and a master’s degree in education from Hampton University. She was a retired educator from McCormick County schools, with 42 years of service. She was a member of Abbeville Eastern Star No. 236 and St. James AME Church, where she was a member of the senior choir, Missionary Society, Lay Organization and the Steward Board.
Survivors include a daughter, Wanda H. Glover of the home; a sister, Lillie M. Wilburn of Naperville, Ill.; and a grandchild.
Services will be at 1 Tuesday at St. James AME Church, conducted by the Rev. James Thompson. Burial will be in Harbison Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
The family is at the home.

Janie Pauline Phillips

NINETY SIX — Janie Pauline Phillips, 95, of 303 Little Mountain Road, widow of Smith Phillips, passed away April 15, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Tempie Robinson Williams. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she was a former church treasurer, choir member, Sunday school teacher and Missionary Society member. She was also affiliated with Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall. She was a member of the Women’s Aide Society No. 104, the Order of the Eastern Star, Little Mountain Road Community Club, Pyracantha Garden Club, Clemson Extension Homemakers Club and Ninety Six Senior Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah P. Holloway of the home; 18 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

Leola McIntosh Smith

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — Services for Leola McIntosh Smith, of 5445 Lee Road, Apt. 1, will be at 1 Tuesday at Brownoh AME Church, Calhoun Falls, S.C., conducted by the Rev. Vivian Edwards and the Rev. Johnnie Waller, The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Smith passed away April 9, 2001. She graduated from the former Reed Street High School, Anderson, S.C., and was a retired employee of Kase Western Reserve University and a retired cosmetologist.
Additional survivors include three grandchildren.
The family is at the home of John and Earnestine Edmunds, 214 S. Gordon Ave., Calhoun Falls.
Friendly Funeral Home, Calhoun Falls, is in charge.

Tommy Williams

NINETY SIX — Thomas Luther “Tommy” Williams, 54, of 4716 Tillman Territory Road, husband of Patricia Kitchens Williams, passed away April 15, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Dorothy Prince Williams and the late Grady Pete Williams. He retired from Greenwood Mills, Plant No. 5, after 33 years of service and was a member of Faith Temple Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Ninety Six; a daughter, Chrystal Williams-Scott of Ninety Six; three sons, Thomas Grady Williams and Christopher Roy Williams, both of Ninety Six and Brian Charles Williams of the home; two brothers, Russell Williams of Florence and Johnny Williams of Waterloo; two sisters, Judy Baird of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Bernice Williams of Ninety Six; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Faith Temple Holiness Church, conducted by the Revs. Tim Brimm and David Evans. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are Rusty Williams, Clay Wertz, Joel Frazier, A.D. Wertz, Mike Scott and Ken Frazier.
Honorary escorts are members of Faith Temple Sunday School Class, along with Dr. Thomas Pritchard, Dr. Bill Sawyer and Robert Gunnells.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Elliott ‘L’ Clark

SALUDA — Elliott “L” Clark, 76, of 287 Allegro Road, husband of Ammie Dobbs Clark, passed away April 15, 2001, at his home.
Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late James and Lela Brown Clark. He was a member of New Salem C.M.E. Church and the Sons of Aide. He was a former employee of Louis Rich Farm.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, J.L. Clark, Ernest Clark, Jerry Clark and Johnny W. Clark, all of Saluda; six daughters, Dorothy Bush of Washington , D.C., Rosa Watkins, Marzella Frazier, Carzella Cromer, Amy Mathis and Linda Bryant, all of Saluda; two brothers, Willie Clark of Sumter and James Clark Jr. of Washington , D.C.; five sisters, Zera Attaway of Saluda, Ida Bell Roper of Edgefield, Beulah Smith of Johnston, Lannie M. Stevens and Pauline Green, both of Washington , D.C.; 36 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Friday at Willow Springs Baptist Church, Edgefield County, conducted by the Rev. Dr. E.L. Cain, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are nephews and nieces.
The family is at the home.

Allie Mae Deal

GREENWOOD — Allie Mae Anderson Deal, of 554 Goode St., widow of George Deal Jr., passed away April 18, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Guy and Mary Wardlaw Anderson. She was a member of Little Zion A.M.E. Church, where she was a missionary and a steward.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Deal Lake of the home; three brothers, Willie Fred Anderson and David Anderson, both of Greenwood and Guy Russell Anderson of Atlanta; two sisters, Wilhelmenia Cureton and Cora Lee Woods, both of Greenwood; a grandson of the home, Tessel George Deal; and two great-grandchildren. The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Janette Godsey

GREENWOOD — Janette Smith Godsey, 79, of 206 Heritage West, wife of William G. “Bill” Godsey, passed away April 17, 2001, at her home.
Born in Edgefield County, she was a daughter of the late Alvin and Charlotte Park Smith. She was a graduate of Edgefield High School and a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and the Lawton Sunday School Class of the church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, William G. Godsey Jr. of Greenville and C. Donald Godsey of Greenwood; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Larry Jenkins.
Private family burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens before the memorial service.
Visitation is at the funeral home from 7-8 tonight.

‘Peas’ Hamrick

GREENWOOD — Raymond Ross “Peas” Hamrick, 76, of 318 W. Alexander Ave., husband of Betty Pollard Hamrick, passed away April 16, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary Hamrick. He retired from Greenwood Mills, Durst Plant, and was a security guard with Self Memorial Hospital. He was a World War II Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Wanda Finney of Lansing, Mich.; two sisters, Irene Bartley and Evelyn McCary, both of Greenwood; and four grandchildren.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Bill Luquire

NINETY SIX — Willie L. “Bill” Luquire, 74, of 3306 Golf Course Road, husband of Mary W. Luquire, passed away April 18, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Visitation is from 7-9 Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home.

Carl T. Mahon

GRAY COURT — Carl T. “Coot” Mahon, 59, of 110 Crawford Road, Hickory Tavern Community, husband of Alice Adams Mahon, passed away April 17, 2001, at Laurens County Hospital.
Born in Ware Shoals, he was a son of the late Furman and Niza Lindley Mahon. He was a retired supervisor with Laurens Glass, owner and operator of Carl’s Tire and a member of Rabun Creek Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school class treasurer and usher chairman. He was also umpire for the Dixie Girls Ball and a member of the Lyons Club of Hickory Tavern.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Edward Earl Mahon of Pelzer and Randall Scott Mahon of Greenville; two daughters, Angie M. Colquitt of Taylors and Jody Mahon of Laurens; a stepson, Allen Smith of Ware Shoals; a stepdaughter, Deborah Carter of Hickory Tavern; two brothers, Joe Mahon of Greenwood and Bill Mahon of Greenpond Community; two sisters, Helen Hall of Laurens and Mrs. Billy (Dot) Banks of Greenwood; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Thursday at Rabun Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Bill Jeffords and Gerald Crawford. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Furman Mahon, Travis Mahon, Todd Mahon, Henry Mahon, Joey Mahon, John Lee Banks and Mark Taylor.
The family is at the home, where the body will be taken today.
