Tony Lydell Moore
GREENWOOD — Tony Lydell Moore, 32, of 308 Milford Springs Road, passed away April 23, 2001, in Greenwood County.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Alice Moore Lanier and Ernest Ward. He was of the Baptist faith and was employed with Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Laurens. Survivors include his mother and father, both of Greenwood; his fiancée of the home, Ruby Crawford; a son, Etienne D. Woolridge of Greenwood; two stepsons, Clifford Crawford and Jamar Crawford, both of the home; a daughter, Shandolyn L. Callaham of Cross Hill; a stepdaughter, Shay Crawford of the home; and three brothers, Melvin Moore, Gregory Moore and Jeffery Moore, all of Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Gaines Morrow
LOWNDESVILLE - Gaines Morrow, 87, resident of 150 Bell St., Lowndesville, SC, widower of Lizzie Mae Shaw Morrow passed away Sunday, April 22, 2001 at Magnolia Manor Health Care in Greenwood, SC.
Born in Abbeville Co., SC he was a son of the late Robert Lee and Maggie Gordon Morrow.
He was a retired Textile employee with Rocky River Mills and was a Volunteer Fireman with the Lowndesville Fire Dept. He was also a member of Ridge Methodist Church.
Survivors are: a son, George Morrow, Abbeville, SC; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cornelia M. Pryor.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at 11 AM from the Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Revs. Sam Thomason and Charles Howell officiating.
The body is at the Harris Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 til 7:30 PM Tuesday evening. The family is at the home of his son, Mr. and Mrs. George Morrow, 770 Nation Road, Abbeville, SC.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Harris Funeral Home is in charge.

Lillian Penn
GREENWOOD — Lillian Smith Penn, 85, of 414 Chinquapin Road, widow of Howard C. Penn, passed away April 23, 2001, at Wesley Commons.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Moultrie D. and Elizabeth Davenport Smith. She graduated from Mountville High School in 1933 and received a registered nurse degree in 1936 from Greenwood Hospital Nursing School. She retired as night director of nursing from Self Memorial Hospital in 1980. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class.
Survivors include a son, H. Patrick Penn of Greenwood; and two grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Standley.
Visitation is from 10-11 Wednesday at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Pat and Frieda Penn, 411 Marietta Drive.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 722 Grace St., Greenwood, S.C. 29649; the Greenwood Humane Society, P.O. Box 242, Greenwood, S.C. 29648 or to a charity of one’s choice.
Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.

Ella Mae Wynn
ABBEVILLE — Ella Mae Wynn, 78, of 395 Kay Road, widow of Mack Wynn, passed away April 23, 2001, at Abbeville Nursing Home.
Services will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Marian Browning
SUMMERVILLE — Marian Almeria Bivens Browning, 78, wife of Edmund Simmons Browning, passed away April 1, 2001. Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, Inc., Summerville, which is in charge.

James Arthur Fortune Sr.
GREENWOOD — James Arthur Fortune Sr., 78, of 107 S. University St., husband of Georgiana B. Fortune, passed away April 1, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late John and Lula Nelson Fortune. He was a former employee of Greenwood Packing Plant. He was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, former Sunday School Teacher of the Men’s Class, former Church Treasurer and former custodian of the church. He was also a member of Harmony Lodge #37, Masonic Lodge and a member of Son’s of Aide #55 and a life member of NAACP.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James A. Fortune Jr. of Boston, Mass. and Jerry L. Fortune of the home; three sisters, Johnnie Ruth Pressley, Frances Hubbard and Jessie F. Davidson of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, William Nelson Fortune Sr. of Greenwood and Joe H. Fortune of Camden, N.J.; three grandchildren, one of the home, Demetricus L. Fortune; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Willie “Bill” Gray
GREENWOOD — Willie Gray, 86, of 509 Milwee Ave., widow of Susie McAdams Gray, passed away April 1, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood County, he was the son of the late Russell and Lela Nedwood Gray. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah AME Church and was self employed as a Brickmason and a member of Progressive Masonic Lodge #403.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Gray of Greenwood; and a sister Lonnye G. Daniels of Griffin, Ga.
Graveside services will be at 11 Wednesday at Evening Star Memorial Gardens, conducted by Rev. Moses Miller and assisted by Rev. Jackie Whitted.
Pallbearers will be members of the Progressive Masonic Lodge #403. Honorary Pallbearers will be Scurry Harrison, Harry Williams, Joel Wimms and David Calhoun.
The family is at the home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Pisgah AME Church Building Fund, c/o Thomas Gray, 509 Milwee Ave.
Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Deofia ‘Nick’ Harrison
NINETY SIX — Mrs. Deofia “Nick” Harrison, 85, of 204 Little Mountain Road, widow of Earnest Harrison, passed away March 29, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born and reared in Edgefield County, she was a daughter of the late James R. and Frances C. Harrison. She was a member of Bailey Bethel AME Church, McCormick County, and also attended Mayes United Methodist Church of Ninety Six. Retired from Edgewood Middle School, she was a member of the Women’s Burial Aid Society.
Survivors include four daughters, Aggie C. Harrison Lurk of Charlotte, N.C., Mary O. Harrison Norris of Washington , D.C., Nina Mae Harrison Greene of Greenwood and Emma L. Harrison Williams of the home; a son, James R. Harrison of Greenwood; two grandchildren reared in the home, Sandra Logan and Kim Rapley; three sisters, Sadie Mae Harrison, Janie Ruth Workman and Lila R. Harrison, all of Patterson, N.J.; 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home on Little Mountain Road.
Services will be at 1 Tuesday at Mays United Methodist Church, Ninety Six, conducted by the Revs. Willie J. Key and J.W. Paul, assisted by Rev. Joseph Caldwell. The body will be placed in the church at 12 noon Tuesday.
Visitation is from 5-7 tonight at Daniel and Sons Funeral Service and will receive friends from 7-9 tonight at the home.
Daniel and Sons Funeral Service is in charge.

Elaine Hearst Light
GREENWOOD — Elaine Hearst Light, 35, of 916 Spring St., passed away March 31, 2001.
Born in Greenwood County, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Helen Hearst. She was reared in the home by Matilda Williams and the late James Williams. She was formerly employed by Little Cricket and a member of Old Mount Vine Baptist Church, Epworth.
Survivors include five brothers, James Peterson of Cleveland, Ohio, Clayton Peterson of Chesapeake, Va., Ronnie Hearst of Irmo, S.C., Archie Hearst and Anthony Hearst, both of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Sharon Hearst of Decatur, Ga. and Matilda Burton of Greenwood.
The family is at the home of her husband, 818 New St. and at the home of Matilda Williams, 818 Gage St.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc., which is in charge.

Larry O. Knight
GREENWOOD — Larry O. Knight, 53, of 218 Merriman Ave., passed away April 1, 2001 at Self Memorial Hospital.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Dorothy Anne Fuller Simon
GREENWOOD — Dorothy Anne Fuller Simon, 44, of 131 Russell St., husband of Nathaniel Simon, passed away April 2, 2001, at the home.
Born in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late Curtis Fuller and Mattie Ruth Hurley. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Nathan Jerome Simon of Greenwood; five daughters, Ada L. Simon, Dorothy Jean Simon Bryant, Avis Channell Simon, Tiara Dale and Ciara Dale, all of Greenwood; three brothers, Rufus Fuller, Robert Fuller and William Henry Fuller, all of Greenwood; and two sisters, Annie Mae Washington and Barbara Jean Fuller Rayford, both of Greenwood.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc.

Pressley Simpson
ABBEVILLE — Gerdie ‘Pressley’ Simpson, 74, of Gerdie Simpson Road, passed away March 31, 2001, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Gerdie and Nettie Fisher Simpson. He was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Dewey H. Simpson of Princeton, S.C.; four sisters, Willie S. Prince, Prudence S. Williams and Derrell S. Caldwell, all of Abbeville and Cynthia S. Thomson of Troy.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Mount Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Visitation is from 1-2 Tuesday at Mount Bethel Baptist Church in the Social Hall.
The family is at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

W. Woodroe Spires
MARTINEZ, GA. — W. Woodroe Spires, husband of Ruth Medlin Spires, passed away March 31, 2001.
Born in Lincolnton, Ga., he was the son of Sim R. and Minnie Vickery. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Martinez, Ga. He was a retired Veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Archie Spires of Columbus, Ga.; a daughter, Alabama Phillis Salvry; a sister, Mrs. Marvin (Sarah) Kinney of Greenwood; two grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Martinez, Ga. Poteet Funeral Home, Martinez, Ga., is in charge.

Emma L. Bayne
WARE SHOALS — Emma Lou Lockaby Bayne, 74, of 31 Franks Drive, passed away April 28, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Hovie and Anna Loveland Lockaby. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy B. Smith and Becky B. Smith, both of Ware Shoals; a brother, the Rev. John Lockaby of Greenville; a sister, Vera Betts of Avondale Estates, Ga.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 7 Tuesday night at Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Robert Emory, Mike Smith and John Lockaby.
The family is at the home of Jack and Tammy Smith, 5387 Highway 252, Ware Shoals.
Memorials may be made to of Calvary Baptist Church Youth or Building Fund, 5551 Highway 252, Donalds, S.C. 29638.
