Bertha Sue Brown, 103
GREENWOOD — Bertha Sue Brown, 103, of 111 Crescent Drive, widow of James Marion Brown, passed away April 29, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late John Wesley and Ida Davenport. She retired from Abney Mills and Greenwood Mills and was a member of Woodlawn Church of God.
Survivors include a son, James Everett Brown of Greenwood; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Jason Garner, Terry Sherfield and Charles Brown. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
Pallbearers are members of the Men’s Sunday School Class of Woodlawn Church of God. Visitation is from 7-9 Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Rosa Crawford
SALUDA — Rosa Rushton Crawford, 62, of 124 W. Wheeler Circle, wife of Barron E. “Bud” Crawford, passed away April 28, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late James T. and Mable Cockrell Rushton Sr. She retired from Piggly Wiggly in Saluda and was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Bonnie C. Kesler of Saluda; a brother, James T. Rushton Jr. of Greenwood; a sister, Louise R. White of Greenwood; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 today at Red Bank Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Gary Romines. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation is in the church social hall from 1:30-2:30.

Nettie Klugh Ervin
ABBEVILLE — Nettie Klugh Ervin, 73, of 627 Klugh Road, widow of Flaming Ervin Sr., passed away April 29, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of Agnes Campbell Klugh and the late James O. Klugh. She was a member of St. John A.M.E. Church, where she was president of the Missionary Society and president of the Pastor’s Aid Society.
Survivors include her mother of the home; two sons, Anthony Klugh and Curry Gray, both of Greenwood; four daughters, Patricia A. Riley and Barbara J. Martin, both of Greenwood and Althea Klugh and Pamela Klugh, both of Atlanta; seven stepdaughters, Martha White, Katie Mae Bonds, Mattie Hurley, Janie Ruth Anderson and Kathy Thomas, all of Greenwood and Sadie Jackson and Vernester Hernandez, both of Columbia; three sisters, Annie K. Styles and Lealer Cantlow, both of Abbeville and Frances W. Klugh of the home; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood, which is in charge.

Melissa Ann P. Gault
GREENWOOD — Melissa Ann Partain Gault, 32, of 3407 Callison Highway, wife of Gerald Craig Gault, passed away April 29, 2001.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of James W. “Buddy” and Shirley Alexander Partain. She was an employee of Denny’s Restaurant, Greenwood, a 1987 Ninety Six High School graduate and a member of South Greenwood Church of God.
Survivors include her husband; her parents of Ninety Six; a son, Gerald Craig Gault Jr. of the home; a daughter, Shirley Ann Gault of the home; three brothers, Michael Hamilton of Due West, Jack Hamilton of Waterloo and James Ray Partain of Ninety Six; a stepsister, Donna Turner of Greenwood; maternal grandparents, James R. Alexander of Lake Wells, Fla., and Ann Moseley of Ninety Six; and a paternal grandmother, Ola Partain of Ninety Six.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at South Greenwood Church of God, conducted by the Rev. Milton Hannah. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are Sam Burkett, John Alexander, Robbie Alexander, John Alexander Jr., Steve Crawford and Kenneth Swygert.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of her parents, 223 Beach Drive, Ninety Six.
Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.

Randall O’Neil Harris Jr.
GREENWOOD — Infant Randall O’Neil Harris Jr., son of Sabrina Irvin and Randall Harris, passed away April 29, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include his mother of Greenwood; his father of Calhoun Falls; maternal grandparents, Thomas Irvin and Janie Irvin, both of Greenwood; paternal grandparents, Willie and Mary Johnson of Calhoun Falls and maternal great-grandmother, Louella Parks of Cross Hill.
The family is at the home of Janie Irvin, 605 Milwee Ave., Greenwood. Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Charlie Lear
GREENWOOD — Charles E. Lear, 63, of 208 Anchor Road, widower of Faye Anne Robbins Lear, passed away April 28, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Earlington, Ky., he was a son of the late Charles Estel and Susie Holmes Lear. He retired as a gunnery sergeant with the Marine Corps in 1980, having served as a military recruiter. He also served three tours of duty during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the American Legion and the D.A.V. and a recipient of the President Unit Citation, the Good Conduct Medal and many other medals. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Smith of Cleveland, Tenn., and Etienne Jo Lear of Washington state; a son, Terry Bodiford of Greenwood; two sisters, Norma Sue Stanley of Mortons Gap, Ky., and Mary Pendley of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, William E. Lear of Fairmont, Ind., and Joe Allen Lear of Earlington; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services, with military rites, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Oakbrook Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, with the Rev. Earl Owings officiating.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of his son, Terry Bodiford, 206 Anchor Road, Greenwood.

Cora Morgan
PLUM BRANCH — Cora Morgan, 79, widow of M.T. Morgan, passed away April 29, 2001, at McCormick Health Care.
Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Hettie Chamberlain Hill. She was a retired domestic worker and a member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church, where she was a member of the senior choir and the Burial Aide Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Lyons of Troy; five sons, Thomas Morgan and Lonnie Morgan, both of Plum Branch, Drew Morgan of McCormick and Marion Morgan and Bennie Morgan, both of Greenwood; three sisters, Fannie Mae Talbert of McCormick, Lugenia Anderson of Parksville and Gladys Lewis of Masury, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family is at her home, of Route 1, Box 24, Plum Branch.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick, which is in charge.

John Bledsoe
CLINTON — John William Bledsoe, 80, resident of 205 Fair Place in Clinton, husband of Katherine Crow Bledsoe, passed away April 2, 2001 at Providence Hospital in Columbia.
Born in Lancaster County, August 5, 1920, he was a son of the late Rev. John A. and Mabel Simmons Bledsoe. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII. He was a funeral director having worked with several local funeral homes and he retired from Dunbar Funeral Home in Columbia.
A member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, he was also a member of the Lawrence Reddick Sunday School Class and the Methodist MenŐs Club of the Church. He was a member of the Campbell Lodge #44 A.F.M., Hejaz Shrine Temple and Laurens County Shrine Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Kathie Barker and a son-in-law, Carroll Barker of Clinton; three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Kathryn) Acker of Anderson, Mrs. John (Annie Mae) Livingston of Greensboro, NC and Mrs. W.C. (Sara Lou) Hendrix of Conestee; two grandchildren, April Anne Barker and William Brad Barker, both of Clinton.
Graveside services will be conducted 3PM Wednesday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Dan Batson and Rev. Ben Cunningham officiating.
The family is at the home and will receive friends there at their home. Memorials may be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Hand Bell Fund, 310 N. Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325.
Blyth Funeral Home is in charge.

Curtis Brown
PLUM BRANCH — Services for Curtis Brown, of Washington , D.C., will be at 3 Wednesday at Cedar Spring Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. E.L. Cain, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Pallbearers are friends of the family.
The family is at the homes of a daughter, Lisa Morgan, 320 Greenbriar St., Greenwood and a sister, Mary B. Martin, Old Augusta Road, Plum Branch.

Marian Browning
SUMMERVILLE — Marian Almeria Bivens Browning, loving wife for 57 years of Edmund Simmons Browning, passed away after an extended illness Sunday, April 1, 2001 at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church-Spell Chapel, Wednesday afternoon, April 4, 2001 at 3 o'clock. Burial will be held at Summerville Cemetery. Friends may call at Parks Funeral Home, Summerville, SC this Tuesday evening from 6-8 oŐclock.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Stained Glass Window Fund, c/o Keith Limehouse, Givhans Southern Methodist Church, 1601 Highway 61, Ridgeville, SC 29472 or Bethany United Methodist Church-Building Fund, 118 W. 3rd South St., Summerville, SC 29483 or American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsden Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
Mrs. Browning was born October 2, 1922 in Givhans, SC. She was the devoted daughter of Eloise Limehouse Bivens and Charles Gary Bivens. She graduated from Ridgeville High School and Rice Business College. Her professional career was spent as a bookkeeper retiring from E.M. Jones Chevrolet in Summerville.
She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and served as circle leader of the Dunbar Circle. She was a leading developer of the Girl Scouts of America, a local volunteer of American Diabetic Association, Summerville Historical Society, and Lander University Big Blue Club.
She is survived by her husband, of Summerville; and her only child, Cheryl Almeria Browning, of Greenwood, SC. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John Gary Bivens.

Albert Burns
DUE WEST — Albert Burns, 84, of 19 Beulah St., passed away March 31, 2001, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late John and Luminda Williams Burns. He was a member of Mount Lebanon AME Church, Donalds. He was the last survivor of his immediate family.
Services will be at 1 Thursday at Mount Lebanon AME Church, Donalds, conducted by the Revs. Larry Nelson, James Kay and the Rev. Stackhouse. Burial will be in Mount Zion AME Church Cemetery, Due West.
The family is at the home of a niece, Linda Jackson, 914 Miller Road, Cokesbury.
Holloway’s Funeral Home, Belton, is in charge.
