Jane Dean
GREENWOOD — Jane Shannon Dean, 97, formerly of 449 Grace Street, widow of Edward Page Dean Sr., passed away April 2, 2001, at Wesley Commons.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late William and Candice Shannon and a graduate of Philadelphia School of Design for Women. A member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, she was a volunteer with the Alter Guild of the church and the Wise Penny for St. Nicholas Speech and Hearing.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Page Dean Jr. of Sharrad, Ill., and William James Dean of Frenchtown, N.J.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Wesley Commons, 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, S.C. 92646 or the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, P.O. Box 3283, Greenwood, S.C. 29648.

Hobert Humphrey
LAKE CITY, Tenn. — Hobert Humphrey, 77, husband of Dicie Humphrey, passed away April 1, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
A son of the late Lee and Nettie Adkins Humphrey, he was a World War II veteran, owner of Hobbie’s Now and Then Shop, a member of the Church of Christ and an auctioneer for many years.
Survivors include his wife of Lake City; a daughter, Clotean Norrington of Winslow, Ind.; two sons, Billy Ray Humphrey of Greenwood, S.C., and Hobert Humphrey Jr. of Lake City; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 8 tonight at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, conducted by ministers Tim Mefford and Garry Jones.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial, with full military honors, is Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home is in charge.

Larry O. Knight
GREENWOOD — Larry O. Knight, 53, of 218 Merriman Ave., passed away April 1, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Claude Daniel and Emma Rice Knight. He was a member of Woodlawn Church of God.
Survivors include four sisters, Sara Carver of Columbia, Doris Cox and Christine McCurry, both of Greenwood and Gladys Beardsley of Greer; seven brothers, Jimmy Knight, Bobby Knight, Uvil Knight and Ray Knight, all of Greenwood, Ralph Knight of Ninety Six, Truman Knight of Hodges and Morris Knight of Mauldin.
Services will be at noon today at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Terry Sherfield and the Rev. Jason Garner. Burial will be in at 3 today in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Pickens County.
Pallbearers are Butch Power, Jeff Knight, Jeff Knight, Charlie Knight, Uvil Knight, Mike Knight, Bryan Knight and Charlie Beardsley.
Honorary escorts are nieces and nephews.
Visitation was from 11 a.m.-noon at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Emerald Center, P.O. Box 3004, Greenwood, S.C. 29648.

McCORMICK — Samuel Cade Lindley, of Route 1, husband of Mary Eddie Lindley, passed away April 3, 2001, at his home.
Services will be announced by Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood, which is in charge.

Cora Mae Moore
McCORMICK — Services for Cora Mae Moore, of Hempstead, N.Y., will be at 1 Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Robert Haskell. Burial will be in Zion Chapel AME Church Cemetery.
The family is at the home of a sister, Verdell Moore, Cherry Valley Apartments, McCormick.
Walker Funeral Home, McCormick, is in charge.

Dorothy Anne Simon
GREENWOOD — Services for Dorothy Anne Fuller Simon, of 131 Russell St., will be at 1 Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Willie Evans. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial will be in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is Wednesday at the home.
Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Nancy P. Smith
CHAPPELLS — Nancy P. Smith, 79, of 5127 Highway 39, passed away March 30, 2001, at her home.
Born in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Sally Smith. She was a member of Saint Vaughnville Baptist Church, the Chappells Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Women’s Aid Society.
Survivors include nine children, Willie Junior Smith, Alvin Smith and Willie James Smith, all of the home, James R. Lindsay of Hodges, Bessie M. Reeder and Daisy Smoot, both of Chappells and Lula R. Crawford of Mountville; two others reared in the home, Jessie L. Hendrix and John E. Smith; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 Wednesday at Saint Vaughnville Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ray Pilgrim, pastor.
The family is at the home.

Corene Cobb
GREENWOOD — Corene Long Cobb, 85, formerly of 2316 E. 37th St., Savannah, wife of Eugene H. Cobb, passed away April 5, 2001, at National Heath Care of Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late L. Marion and Janie Timmerman Long. She graduated from Greenwood High School and Greenwood College of Commerce and retired from the Executive Department of Insurance of the International Paper Co. She was a member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church in Savannah.
Survivors include her husband of Greenwood.
Graveside services will be at 1 Saturday in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Savannah, with the Rev. David Haygood officiating.
Memorials may be made to Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, 429 Abercorn St., Savannah, Ga. 31401.

WHITMIRE — Boyce L. “Bo” Garmon passed away April 5, 2001.
Services will be announced by Gray Funeral Home, Whitmire, which is in charge.

Kathryn T. Grizzle
SPARTANBURG — Kathryn Thompson Grizzle, 76, of Belvedere Drive, wife of James “Buddy” Cleveland Grizzle, passed away April 5, 2001, at her home.
Born in Spartanburg, she was a daughter of the late Luther Benson and Lillie Bruce Thompson. She was a member of Arcadia First Baptist Church and a retired employee of Smith’s Drug Store No. 1.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Judy Kathryn Strange Ankuta and Betty Ann Strange Derrick, both of Greenwood; a brother, Luther William Thompson of Spartanburg; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Max Benshoof.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Floyd’s North Church Street Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Blvd., Suite 101, Spartanburg, S.C. 29301.

GREENWOOD — Services for Elaine Hearst Light, of 119 New St., will be at 2 Saturday at Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, Epworth, conducted by the Rev. Clyde Cannon. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are brothers-in-law and friends of the family.
Flower bearers Liza Mitchell, Kimberly Graham, Sharon Crawford and friends of the family.
Visitation is from 7-8 tonight at the home of her mother, Matilda Williams, 818 Gage St.

Jannie M. Metcalf
McCORMICK — Jannie M. Metcalf, 85, of 312 Pine St., widow of Leroy Metcalf, passed away April 5, 2001, at McCormick Health Care Center.
The family is at the home of a brother, Johnny Briggs, 5210 McCormick Highway, Bradley.
Services will be announced by Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood, which is in charge.

Carole Hancock Roark
Carole Hancock Roark, 54, wife of Larry K. Roark, passed away April 6 at her home. Mrs. Roark was born in Greenwood on January 24, 1947. She was a daughter of the late James Hancock and Mrs. Loretta Hancock Mattison. She graduated from Ninety Six High School and Charzanne Beauty College. She was a licensed cosmetologist for over 30 years and retired from JCPenny's Styling Salon. Mrs. Roark was a member of the Ninety Six Church of God, where she was a former music director and was lead singer for Kindred Spirit. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Jimmy Hancock.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Roark, of the home; her children, Gregg and Angie Brown, of Greenwood, David and Aimee Roark, of Ninety Six, Trent and Wendy Roark, of Greenwood; her grandchildren, Christian and Lauryn Brown, Ashlynn Roark, and AnaCaroline Roark; her mother, Mrs. Loretta Hancock Mattison, of Greenwood; two brothers, Rev. Lynn Hancock, of Pampa, TX, Mr. Mark Hancock, of Bradley; three step-sisters, Mrs. Vaden (Peggy) Hallman, Ms. Rita Nobles, both of Ninety Six, Ms. Jackie Crouch, of Fountain Inn.
Services will be Sunday, April 8 at 3:00 at the Ninety Six Church of God, conducted by the Rev. Milton Stubblefield, Rev. Howard Hancock, Rev. Russell Addis, Rev. Roy Burroughs. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Jim Roark, Keith McIntosh, James Griffin, Bobby Matthews, Rev. Eugene Hancock, Brad Boozer, Tim Goldman, and Jerry Goldman. Honorary Pallbearers are Rev. Bobby Davis, Rock Goldman, Bobby Agner, Larry Freeland, Sonny Dotson, Dick Vaughn, Jerry Burden, and the Ninety Six Church of God Men's Bible Class.
Visitation will be from 1:30-3 Sunday at the Ninety Six Church of God Family Life Center.
The family is at the home of her mother, 716 Pucketts Ferry Rd.
