HODGES — Ophelia Gaddis Roton, 83, of 148 Pumpkin Road, wife of Edwin Virgil Roton, passed away Aug. 10, 2001, at her home.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late William Adolphus and Laura Kay Gaddis. She was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Wayne Baldwin of Conway; two stepsons, Michael Bennett and James Boan, both of Greenwood; three stepdaughters, Debbie Capavilla of Greenwood, Kimberly Chrisley of Ninety Six and Hope Thomason of Laurens; a grandson, three great-grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 Monday at Blyth Funeral Home by the Rev. Rodney Jeanes. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Barry Holly, Hugh Riley, Joe Smith, Ennis Morrison, Paul Barker and Roy Brooks.
Honorary escorts are Mike Nelson, Randy Roton, Lewis Hudson, Robert Capavilla, Clyde Evans and Sam McAllister.
Visitation is from 5-7 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Frances Treadway
GREENWOOD - Frances Range Treadway, 75, former resident of 105 Hampton Road, widow of Carl Emmert Treadway, passed away August 9, 2001 at Rolling Green Village in Greenville, SC.
Born in Elizabethton, TN, May 19, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Robert Percy and Loma Matherly Range. A mem-ber of Laurel Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Leary Sunday School Class of the Church and South Main Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Carla T. and Stephen Francis Csernak of Greenville; three brothers, Orville Range of Albertsville, AL, Ralph Range of Brook Park, OH and Neil Range of Strongsville, OH; a sister-in-law, Mabel Treadway Jones of Lexington, SC; three granddaughters, Holly Elizabeth Csernak of Mt. Pleasant, Amy Katherine Csernak and Mary Frances Csernak, both of Greenville.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 AM Monday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Todd Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Ruebin Holder, Claude Gregory, Homer Banks, David Thompson, Paul Still, Harley Lawter, Joe Campbell and Dan Fortner.
Honorary escort will be friends and neigh-bors of Idlewood Subdivision along with Shorty Adams, Albert Woodard and Buddy Hamrick.
The family is at the home of Steve and Carla Treadway in Greenville and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 Sunday evening.

Harold ‘Pop’ Uldrick
ABBEVILLE — Harold Emory “Pop” Uldrick, age 86, resident of 810 Highway 201, husband of Elsie Stamps Uldrick, passed away August 8, 2001 at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Thomas Franklin and Hattie Cochran Uldrick. He was the former owner/operator of Uldrick’s Grocery. Mr. Uldrick was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two sons, James F. Uldrick and Owen E. Uldrick, both of Abbeville; a sister, Frances Trent of Winston Salem, N.C.; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Rev. George Busch and Rev. Charles Champion officiating.
Burial was in Long Cane Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Ken Uldrick, Roger Uldrick, Mark Uldrick, Heath Uldrick, Dan Uldrick and grandson-in-law, Alan Boatwright.
The family is at the home of his son, Owen Uldrick, 800 Highway 201, and received friends from 7 until 9 PM Friday at Harris Funeral Home.
Flowers are optional, memorials may be made to the building fund of New Hope Presbyterian Church, 1484 Hwy. 28 Bypass, Abbeville, SC 29620.

Frances Maude Williams
PLUM BRANCH — Frances Maude Williams, 58, of Highway 283, wife of Henry Lee Williams, passed away Aug. 10, 2001, at Aiken Regional Hospital.
Born in McCormick County, she was the daughter of the late George and Harriett Wideman Tucker. She was a member of St. Mary A.M.E. Church in McCormick and was formerly employed with Home Health Care.
Survivors include her husband of Philadelphia; two daughters, Caren Franklin of Greenwood and Harriett Lomax of Plum Branch; two stepdaughters, Loretta Williams and Martina Williams, both of Philadelphia; three sons, Willie Sherard of the home, Carl Williams of Greenwood and Rodney Williams of Abbeville; two sisters, Hattie Norman of Abbeville and Marion Callaham of McCormick; five brothers, Willie Henry Wideman, Lewis Tucker and Robert Tucker, all of Abbeville, Sammy Tucker and Willie Tucker, both of McCormick; and 10 grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick, which is in charge.

Emanuel ‘Panchie’ Wright
GREENWOOD — Emanuel “Panchie” Wright, 79, of 111 Mosscreek Drive, passed away Aug. 11, 2001, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home.
Born in McCormick County, he was a son of the late Hamp and Frances Gaines Wright. He was self-employed plumber, a member of the Men’s Aide Society No. 30, a former Mason and a member of Millway Baptist Church, where he was a former trustee and deacon. He was first married to the late Lillie Mae Jones Wright, and second to the late Essie Davis Wright.
Survivors include eight sons, Emanuel Lee Wright, Larry Wright, Roy Wright, Carl Wright, Greg Wright and Harry Phelps, all of Greenwood, Charles Wright of Denver and David Collins of Philadelphia; seven daughters, Mrs. Johnnie (Shirley) Strong, Martha Stevenson, Mrs. James (Phyllis) Sanders, Ernestine Wright, Gail Martin, Jennifer Wright and Mrs. Reggie Jacqueline Smith, all of Greenwood; 42 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

Leroy ‘Rabbit Dog’ Dansby
GREENWOOD — Leroy “Rabbit Dog” Dansby, 51, of 218 Sloan Ave., husband of Margaret Ferguson, passed away Aug. 13, 2001, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Timothy and Cleo Dansby. He was a logger for Earnest Ouzts Logging Co. and a member of Springfield Baptist Church, Edgefield County. He attended Brewer High School, where he was a former bus driver.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Daryl Hill of Greenwood; four stepsons, William Ferguson, Ricky Ferguson, Michael Ferguson and Johnnie Ferguson, all of Greenwood; a stepdaughter, Malissa Ferguson of Greenwood; four brothers, Timothy Dansby and William Dansby, both of Washington , D.C., Chris Dansby and Thomas Dansby, both of Maryland; four stepbrothers, Joe Morgan of Promised Land, William Morgan and Leroy Morgan, both of Greenwood and John Morgan of McCormick; five sisters, Ola Mae Dansby and Gladys Wilson, both of Maryland, Annie Ruth Harlem of Atlanta and Mozell Foster and Helen Yeldell, both of Greenwood; four stepsisters, Alberta Cunningham of McCormick, Luberta McIntyer and Annie Mae Gaines, both of Maryland and Mary Sue Morgan of Atlanta; four grandchildren, and a great grandchild.
The family is at the home. Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

Stanley L. Hurst Sr.
SALUDA — Stanley Lyman Hurst Sr., 84, of 1502 Denny Highway, husband of Lena Allen Hurst, passed away Aug. 11, 2001, at his home.
Born in Minneapolis, he was a son of the late Ernest C. and Marie Ellen Nicholson Hurst. He was the retired owner and operator of Pinehurst Resort in northern Wisconsin, a pilot and a member of Butler United Methodist Church. A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, he served as a pilot in the Pacific.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Stan Hurst Jr. of Lowell, Ind.; a daughter, Joan Herbst of Vernon Hills, Ill.; a brother, Bill Hurst of Blytheville, Ark.; three grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Butler United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ben Ward.
Visitation is from 7-8 Wednesday at Ramey Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Butler United Methodist Church, c/o Robert Ridlehoover, 381 Mineral Springs Road, Saluda, S.C. 29138.

Price Quinn
Houston Price Quinn, 81, resident of 1291 Calhoun Road (Quarterpath), formerly of Ormond Beach, FL and Atlanta, GA, beloved husband of Patricia W. Quinn, passed away August 13, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Quinn was born February 23, 1920 in Washington , DC. He was the son of the late Chester and Mazie Elizabeth Quinn of Atlanta, GA and a brother of the late Burns Duke Quinn, also of Atlanta.
Mr. Quinn retired from Southern Railway where he was supervisor in the Freight Re-Audit Department. He was President of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, Washington Lodge 943, AFL-CIO.
Mr. Quinn was a faithful Christian, a Deacon and Ordained Elder, and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood, SC. He was a Free and Accepted Master Mason for more than fifty years in the Grand Lodge of Georgia, Pythagoras Lodge #41. In addition, Mr. Quinn was a member of the American Legion, Georgia Post 159 for 55 years.
Mr. Quinn graduated from Boy's High School in Anderson, SC in 1938 and attended McCallie Military Academy in Chattanooga, TN.
He served his country proudly in the European Theater in WWII as a Staff Sgt. in the US Army Air Corps, 10th Airdromo, SQ-AAF-180. During one of his furloughs in England he showed his lifelong concern for his fellow man by giving his furlough time to the English farmers and helping them plant their crops. He was the first soldier to report for this service. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a good, kind, loving and fair man - a man of integrity and honor; a man who cared deeply about his family and his fellow man.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a son Mark S. Quinn of Greenwood; two daughters, Patricia E. Miller and her husband Brian N. Smith of Norcross, GA and Jean Q. Sink and her husband Sam V. Day of Greenwood. Also surviving are grandchildren, Michael S. Miller and his wife Shelly of Norcross, GA, Douglas B. Smith of Norcross, GA, Anne L. Sink of Greenwood, Terry G. Sink, Jr. of Ormond Beach, FL and Timothy Price Sink of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be conducted 2PM Wednesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Livingston and Dr. John Wall officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Michael Miller, Doug Smith, Brian Smith, Terry Sink, Tim Sink and Sam Day. The family is at the home in Quarterpath and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening.

Frances H. Tolbert
SALUDA — Frances Huffman Tolbert, 84, of 197 Tolbert Road, widow of Jesse Morton Tolbert, passed away Aug. 12, 2001, at her home.
Born in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late Holland Lawton and Elizabeth Earhardt Huffman. She was a retired librarian with Saluda County Library, serving for 30 years. She was also a former member of the B.P.W. and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Morris (Betsy) Jones and Mrs. Mike “Stumpy” (Joanna) Wertz, both of Saluda; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shiloh United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ben Ward. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Ramey Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, 113 W. Wheeler Circle, Saluda, S.C. 29138.

Grafton Geddes 'G.G.' Dowling
BEAUFORT, SC - Grafton Geddes 'G.G.' Dowling, 85, husband of Edith Bannister Dowling, passed away August 13, 2001, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday,, August 15, from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at The Baptist Church of Beaufort with burial in St. Helena's Episcopal Cemetery.
Mr. Dowling was born on September 29, 1915, in Greenwood, SC, to the late Grafton Geddes Dowling and Leonora Mauldin Dowling.
He attended Blake Elementary School and Greenwood High School, graduating in 1932. He won a scholarship to the University of South Carolina, Columbia, and received three degrees: A.B., L.L.B., Juris Doctor.
He began his legal practice in Beaufort in 1938 and continued the practice of law for more than 50 years. He was a veteran of U.S. Army and served in WWII.
He was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives; Member and Chairman of the South Carolina Highway Commission; Chairman of the Port Royal Ports Authority; Chairman of the South Carolina Probation, Parole and Pardon Board; Member of the South Carolina reorganization Commission; President and Chairman of the State Chamber of Commerce; President of the University of South Carolina Alumni Association and served over 40 years on the Board of the South Carolina State Fair Association.
He served as President of the Beaufort Rotary Club, the Beaufort Propeller club, the Beaufort Navy League, he belonged to Masonic Lodge #22 for over 50 years and was also a member of the Beaufort County Public Education Foundation, the Beaufort County Historic Society, the American Legion, the Beaufort Chamber of Commerce, Lady's Island Country Club, Dataw Island County Club, Beaufort Yacht Club, Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club, Palmetto Club, Oglethorpe Club, and University of South Carolina.
He served as President of Royal Gardens, Inc., Sea Island Development company, First Beaufort Corporation, Family Finance and Investment Company, and Capehart Development Company.
In 1958 he, with others, founded the Bank of Beaufort and he served as its President and Chairman. In 1973 he was appointed Presidential Delegate to the United Nations Conference in Geneva, Switzerland on Rules of Warfare and served at all sessions of the Conference until it adjourned in 1978.
He was an active member of The Baptist Church of Beaufort and taught Men's Sunday School Class for many years.
He, his wife and others started a branch of the University of South Carolina at Beaufort, and he taught there for ten years as an Adjunct Professor of Economics and Political Science.
In recent years, he enjoyed foreign travel, history, writing and painting.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, two sons, David S. Dowling of St. Augustine, FL, and Beaufort; G. Geddes Dowling of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Elizabeth Dowling-Sendor of Chapel Hill, NC, and seven grandchildren.
Family suggests memorials be made to The Dowling Foundation, P.O. Box 584, Hardeeville, SC 29927 or to the charity of one's choice.
