DONALDS — Grace Suddeth Gunnells, 81, widow of James William Gunnells, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late William and Ruth Williams Suddeth. She was a member of West Main Street Church of God.
Survivors include a daughter, Denise G. Babb of Donalds; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 2 Tuesday at West Main Street Church of God by the Revs. Gene Land and Bruce Chambers. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in Turkey Creek Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home, Ware Shoals.
The family is at 107 Kirkpatrick Road.

Christian McInville
ABBEVILLE — Christian Travis McInville, 4, of 67 Keystone Lane, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at his home.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of James Leonard and Robin Cavender McInville. He attended All God’s Children Preschool at North Side Baptist Church and was a member of Harris Baptist Church, where he was in the 4-year-old Sunday School Class and participated in Awana.
Survivors include his parents of the home; a sister, Alyssa McInville, and a brother, Austin McInville, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Paul and Sharlene Cavender of Ninety Six; paternal grandparents, Roland and Melody McInville of Abbeville and Ronnie and Terry Hastings of Ninety Six; and maternal great-grandmother, Virginia Mollenkop of Cleveland, Ohio.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Harris Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Frank Thomas and David Clegg. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Roddy L. Cavender, Paul R. Cavender Jr., Tommy L. Cavender, Kenneth Whitfield, Mark McDowell and Darren Ouzts.
Honorary escorts are members of the Masters Disciple Class of the church; physicians and nurses of the Greenwood Community Children’s Center; and the Healthy Family staff.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood.

GREENWOOD — Services for James Murray are at 1 Tuesday at New China Baptist Church, Troy, conducted by the Revs. Aaron Woodward, Derrick Scott and Norris Turner. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Pallbearers are Ricky Moore, Dale Prince, Randy Young, Donald Belton, Clay Wideman and Charles Cunningham.
Flower bearers are nieces.
The family is at the home of a sister, Gertrude Murray, McCormick, and at the home of a daughter, Carolyn Murray, 302 Ashcroft Drive, Greenwood.

Robert ‘Bob’ Thompson
CROSS HILL — Robert “Bob” Thompson, 69, also known as “Cowboy,” of 1046 Barnette Road, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at his home.
Born in Whitmire, he was a son of the late George and Leila Malone Thompson. He was a graduate of Greenville Tech and a former employee of J.P. Stevens, Whitmire Plant and the state Department of Corrections. He also retired from the Army after serving in Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Mitchell Thompson of the home; six sons, Randy Thompson of Greenwood, George Thompson of Cross Hill, Robert H. Thompson Jr. of Laurens, Austin Mitchell and Dyllon Mitchell, both of the home and Chris Mitchell of Honea Path; four daughters, Lindy Shaw of Dawson, Texas , Cindy Gaillard of Honea Path, Denise Thrasher of Anderson and Veronica Butler of Laurens; two brothers, Eugene Thompson of Greenwood and William Malone of Whitmire; two sisters, Shirley Rowe of Dahlonega, Ga., and Joyce Wilkerson of Myrtle Beach; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services are at 3 Tuesday at Bethabara Baptist Church, and burial with military honors is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Gray Funeral Home, Clinton.

Henry McKinney, chaired centennial gala, dies at 82
GREENWOOD — Henry Elijah McKinney Jr., 82, a retired businessman and civic leader who headed this city’s Centennial Commission in 1957, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001 at National Healthcare. His home was at 120 W. Laurel Ave., and he was the widower of Dorothy Sharkey McKinney.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Henry E. and Orrie Shirley McKinney. He graduated from Greenwood High School and attended Clemson and Erskine colleges. A World War II Army veteran, he formerly owned and operated Greenwood Laundry & Dry Cleaning and retired from Ballentine Ford. A member of Main Street United Methodist Church, he was a member of the Featherstone Sunday School Class and formerly served as a trustee and in other positions at the church. He was a former member of the board of directors of Brewer Hospital and Self Memorial Hospital, president of the Greenwood Jaycees, governor of Greenwood Moose Lodge No. 834 and a member of Greenwood Rotary Club and American Legion Post No. 20.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Gene) Caldwell of Charleston and Beth M. Bass of Greenwood; a son, Henry E. McKinney III of Clemson; three sisters, Elizabeth “Buff” Leaman and Doris S. McKinney, both of Greenwood and Lee M. Rogers of Columbia; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Main Street United Methodist Church by the Revs. Larry Jenkins, R. Eldredge Kelley and Karen Radcliffe. Burial is in Magnolia Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10.
Pallbearers are John W. Martin Jr., Jim Firmin, Alan Counts, George Parker, Grover Henderson III, Trav Stevenson III, Chris Watts and Gene Shirley.
Visitation is from 5-7 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Beth Bass, 109 E. Laurel Ave.

Mary Ellen Brown
GREENWOOD — Mary Ellen Willis Lawson Brown, 80, of Laurens Memorial Home, formerly of 1548 Parkway Drive, widow of John Ray Brown, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at National Health Care of Clinton.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late George T. and Lula Mae Minor Willis. She retired from Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant. She was twice married, first to the late Earl William Lawson.
Survivors include a son, George R. Lawson of Greenwood; a daughter, Dora “Bootsie” Duffie of Vaucluse, a sister, Alice W. Brown of Greenwood; two brothers, George Thomas Willis Jr. and Marshall Willis, both of Greenwood; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 2 Wednesday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. David Wells.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of her son, 114 Billee St.

Ruthey Clary
GREENWOOD — Ruthey Mae Banks Clary, 77, of 406 Lowell St., widow of Homer Howard Clary, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at her daughter’s home in Greer.
Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Banks. She was a homemaker and attended West Side Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas H. Clary and James D. Clary, both of Greenwood and Donald Eugene Clary of Killeen, Texas ; a daughter, Norma Clary Knight of Greer; a sister, Irene B. Noble of Newberry; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 3:30 today in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Hal Lane.
Pallbearers are Mike Clary, Jim Clary Jr., Jeff Clary, Jason Knight, Brad Willingham, J. T. Falls, John Falls, Keith Ashley, and Steve Hunter.
Visitation is from 2-3 today at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home and at the home of a son, James D. Clary, 725 Deadfall Road E. Memorials may be made to Visa Care Hospice, 4006 E. North St., Greenville, S.C. 29615.

GREENWOOD — Esther W. Kirkland, 70, of 2301 Scotts Ferry Road, wife of Alvin Olin Kirkland, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at her home.
Born in Woodruff, she was a daughter of the late Dorothy S. Lewis and Zeb Woods. She retired from Greenwood Mills and was a member of Roy O. Adams No. 289, Order of the Eastern Star and Sandridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Rosita Inman Huff of Ninety Six and Dianne Kirkland of Greenwood; two sons, Bobby Mohawk Inman Sr. and Olin Dennis Kirkland, both of Ninety Six; five sisters, Ole Mae Darnell of Lexington, Carrie Stevens of Rocheport, Mo., Mable Shaw of Greenwood, Jenny Hollingsworth of Hodges and Pauline Mulka of Chicago; four brothers, Vernon C. Lewis of Greenwood, William A. Lewis of Abbeville, Bobby T. Lewis of McCormick and Wilson J. Lewis of Rocheport; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 3 Wednesday in Sandridge Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Chuck McManus. The body will be at Sandridge Baptist Church from 12-3.
Pallbearers are nephews: Wyatt Loftis, Horace Alvin Kirkland, William Lewis Jr., Jeffrie Lewis, Freddie Kirkland, Steve Kirkland and Chris David.

Genevieve McNeill
ABBEVILLE — Genevieve Smith McNeill, 82, formerly of 1371 Mount Carmel Road, widow of James “Joe” McNeill Sr., passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Ruffin, she was a daughter of the late James Postell and Ursie Lee Smith-Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Sharon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Anne Horton of Abbeville and Mary Smith of Austin, Texas ; four sons, James “Jimmy” McNeill Jr. of Woodstock, Ga., William Alfred McNeill of Chapin, John Ralph McNeill of Abbeville and Grady Oliver McNeill of Denver; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 Wednesday at Sharon United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Todd Davis. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-8 at the church.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Anne Horton, 1335 Mount Carmel Road.

James M. Meadors
COLUMBIA — James M. Meadors, 81, husband of Ethel D. Meadors, passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center.
Born in Clinton, he was a son of the late James C. and Kate Watkins Meadors. He was a World War II Air Force veteran, serving for 26 years, and he retired as superintendent of Sesquicentennial State Park after 16 years of service. He was a member of Battery B, 107th Battalion and a member and deacon emeritus of North Columbia Baptist Church. He was first married to the late Ila Frances Curry Meadors.
Survivors include his wife of Columbia; a daughter, Susan Kistler of Columbia; a son, James C. Meadors of Lugoff; a stepdaughter, Sandra Gardner of Greenwood; a stepson, James P. Ficklin of Columbia; two brothers, Charles Meadors and Bob Meadors, both of Clinton; four sisters, Earline Ficklin, Ruby Lanford and Ann Bagwell, all of Clinton and Louise Armstrong of Columbus, Miss.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at North Columbia Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Stephen D. Vassar. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial with military honors is at 3 in Rosemont Cemetery, Clinton.
Honorary pallbearers are deacons of the church.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the church.
Memorials may be made to North Columbia Baptist Church or to Faith Home, P.O. Box 39, Greenwood, S.C. 29648.

Pressley Morton Jr.
GREENWOOD — Pressley Morton Jr., 74, of 225 W. Creswell Ave., husband of Lena Phelps Morton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Self Regional Healthcare.

Alex A. Moss
WILLIAMSTON - Alex Andrew Moss, 77, of 1508 Campbell Road, passed away December 9, 2001 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Lincolnton, GA, he was a son of the late Frank Miles and Sadie McKinney Moss. He was a Purple Heart Army veteran of WW II and a member of the Masonic Lodge, Judson #319 and the Hejaz Shrine. He was a Civil Engineer, former Professor at Clemson University and the founder and former president of ART Construction, Inc. Alex was an active member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen King Moss of the home; daughters, Hazel McClain and husband, David, of Greer and Vera Jones and husband, Rev. Frank, of Richmond, VA; a son, Dr. Lewis Moss and wife, Holly, of Greenwood; a sister, Marguerite Thornton of Washington , GA; a brother, William Moss of Kernersville, NC; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital For Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
Receiving: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.
Service: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with burial in Woodlawn Memorial park.
