GREENWOOD — Services for Sallie Lomax Johnson, formerly of Watson Street, and formerly of 1215 E. Whitner St., Anderson, are at 3 Sunday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Abbeville County, with Bishop Emanuel Spearman officiating and the Rev. Frazier, pastor, presiding. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Michael Puckett, Eric Puckett, Melvin Lagroon, Willie Lagroon, John W. Johnson and James Parks Jr.
Flower bearers are friends of the family.
Visitation is from 7-8 tonight at Robinson & Son Mortuary.
The family is at 1215 E. Whitner St., Anderson.

Fred Moore
HONEA PATH — Fred Thurman Moore, 80, of 309 Brook St., husband of Maude Elizabeth Williams Moore, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Born in Seneca, he was a son of the late Alger Earl and Edith Betty Stancil Moore. He attended Seneca High School and graduated from Printer’s School in Nashville, Tenn. A Navy World War II veteran who served on the USS Monticello, he owned and operated Chronicle Printing and served as publisher emeritus until his death. He served in the S.C. House of Representatives from 1951-1980, where he was chairman of the Interstate Cooperation Committee. He was a member of the MUSC. board of trustees from 1995 until his death, a former auctioneer for the state of South Carolina and a member of the Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Butch Moore of Belton; two daughters, Fredda Moore Gilmer of Honea Path and Betty Jo Moore Hall of Abbeville; four brothers, Wallace Derrell Moore of Seneca, Harry Earl Moore of Toney, Ala., Joseph Fielding Moore of Moses Lake, Wash., and Rex Wade Moore of Aiken; two sisters, Reginal Inez Marmelstein of Seneca and Rebecca Newton of Millbrook, Ala.; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Graveside services are at 2 Sunday in Eastview Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Mike Moody.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to MUSC Health Sciences, 171 Ashley Ave., Charleston, S.C.

Samuel H.J. Womack
COLUMBIA — Memorial services for Samuel H.J. Womack, 94, are at 3 Sunday at 1518 Hampton St., Columbia.
Memorial services in Greenwood are Dec. 30 at 2 at Main Street United Methodist Church, 211 Main St. N.
Womack, husband of Katherine Womack, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, in Columbia. He lived in Greenwood for many years before moving to Columbia.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ghentlee Daughertyand Mae O’Dell; a brother, Oren Womack; a sister, Fanny F. Feaster; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Joan Bryan
GREENWOOD — Joan Allen Bryan, 57, of 308 Elliott St., passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, November 5, 1944, she was a daughter of Margaret Cogburn Bryan and the late Preston B. Bryan Sr. She attended Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother of the home; nephews, Preston B. Bryan III, Brooks L. Bryan, Jeff Brock, Steve Brock, and Don Brock.
She was predeceased by a brother, Preston B. Bryan Jr.
Services are at 2 Sunday, at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Leland Scott. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Gerald Rauton, Brian Hobbs, Bill Hobbs, Bob Drexler, Frank Dukes, Jimmy Grisham, Jimmy Robertson, Frank Waites, and Holly Mason.
Honorary escorts are William Thompson, Matt and Louise Gleber, Jimmy and Paulette Bannister, Robert and Dot Moore, Earl and Tee Cowan, Lamar Smith, Walker Hyman, Tom and Frances Meredith, Cooper Bryan, Tommy Bryan, Hazel Bryan, Jeff Brock, Mack and Elsie Partlow, Helen Sanders, Ola Buzhardt, Nell Hartman and Mary Ann Smith.

Jennie Campbell
HONEA PATH — Jennie Ruth Ridge Campbell, 79, widow of William Campbell, of 8189 Highway 252 South, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at Westside Nursing Center in Greenville.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Henry and Mae Campbell Ridge. She was retired from Reigel Textile Co., a member of Broadmouth Baptist Church, and a member of the Order Eastern Star Chapter 159.
Survivors include a son, Jerry L. Mitchell of Donalds; a daughter, Betty Lou Ashley of Honea Path; three brothers, John Ridge and Grover Ridge, both of Honea Path and Bob Ridge of Ware Shoals; two sisters, Ruby Young of Arden, N.C., and Frances Wolf of Greenwood; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 today at Pruitt Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Ray McDowell. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories.
Pallbearers are Stacy Mitchell, Brian Mitchell, Henry Black, Jimmy Black, Keith Ridge and Cary Ridge.
Visitation is today from 2:30-4 at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of a son, Jerry Mitchell, 198 Highway 178 South, Donalds.
Memorials may be made to Broadmouth Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Fred Moore
HONEA PATH — The Honorable Fred Thurman Moore, precious husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, went to his heavenly home while surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Moore of 309 Brook Street, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2001 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Born in Seneca on June 30, 1921, he was the son of the late Alger Earl and Edith Betty Stancil Moore. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served as a Pharmacist’s Mate First Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S. Monticello in the Pacific and European Theaters.
Upon returning home in 1945, he was Publisher and Editor of the Honea Path Chronicle and was Publisher Emeritus until his death. On January 9, 1948, he married the former Maude Elizabeth Williams and shared 53 wonderful years of marriage.
Mr. Moore served between the years of 1951 until 1980 as a member of the S.C. House of Representatives. He served on numerous committees and chaired the Interstate Cooperation Committee. He held the first State Auctioneering License (SCL 101) and served as the State’s Auctioneer. He was involved in many businesses, civic, and educational endeavors. Some include Anderson County Library Board of Directors, Vice President of Grammer Guitar Company, Tri County Technical College Instructor, and owner of Moore Auction and Real Estate Company. Since 1995 he has been serving as a member of the Medical University of South Carolina Board of Trustees.
Mr. Moore is survived by his devoted wife, Maude, of the home; his daughter Fredda Elizabeth and her husband Judge Billy Gilmer of Honea Path; his son Fred “Butch” Thurman Moore and his wife Joy of Belton; his daughter Betty Jo and her husband Major Wally Hall of Abbeville; three grandchildren, William Thurman “Kevin” Gilmer, Janet Elizabeth Moore and Gavin Ivey; and one great grandson, Kristopher Kevin Gilmer.
In addition, he is survived by four brothers; Wallace Derrell Moore of Seneca, Harry Earl Moore of Toney, Ala., Joseph Fielding Moore of Moses Lake, Wa., and Rex Wade Moore of New Ellington, S.C.; sisters, Reginald Inez Marmelstein of Seneca, Syble Rebecca Newton of Millbrook, Ala., and sister-in-law, Lucy Lavinia “Dana” Thomas Moore, also of Seneca.
He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Louise Moore and two brothers, Eugene Francis Moore and Jack Moore.
Graveside services will be Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001 at 2 at Eastview Cemetery in Honea Path.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Smith, MD, Larry Shaw, Bob Ellege, Andy Sullivan, Terry Cooley, and Jerry Parker.
Honorary pallbearers will be past and present members of the South Carolina General Assembly and Medical University of South Carolina Board of Trustees and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Medical University of South Carolina, Health Sciences Foundation, 171 Ashley Avenue, Charleston, S.C. 29425.

James ‘A.B.’ Smith
GREENWOOD — James “A.B.” Smith, 86, widow of Mable E. Smith, of 220 McKeller Drive, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 at his home.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Ida Smith Frazier. He was retired from Southern Brick Company, was a member of Pine Pleasant Baptist Church and of Five Point Community Club.
Survivors include seven daughters, Angela Smith of the home, Olanda Dendy, Charlie M. Williams, Bettie Ann Gladney, Lorrine Smith, Laura Smith and Marie Sanders, all of Greenwood; two sons, Alonzo Smith of the home and J.C “Richard” Smith of Greenwood; six sisters, Betty Prince and Doris Abrams, both of Abbeville, Rebecca F. Kennedy of Greenwood, Jessie L. Taggart of Philadelphia, Leitha Ligon of Bronz, N.Y., and Emma J. Bolden of Williamstown, N.J.; and two brothers, Howard A. Frazier and Herman Belcher of Greenwood.
The family is at the home.
Funeral services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home Inc., which is in charge.

Peggy Swink
ABBEVILLE — Alice Corrine “Peggy” Minor Swink, 77, widow of William Mat Swink, formerly of Cedar Springs Road, passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Shirley S. Bordner, in Greenwood.
Visitation is from 1-2 Monday at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Shirley S. Bordner, 104 Piper St., in Greenwood.
Services are incomplete and will be announced by Harris Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Manerva Calhoun
GREENWOOD — Manerva Wardlaw Calhoun, of 529 Hackett Ave., passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Self Regional Healthcare.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Earlene Hodges
ABBEVILLE — Earlene Campbell Hodges, 79, of Nation Road, widow of Earl L. Hodges, Jr., passed away Sunday, December 23, 2001 at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of Grace Simpson Campbell of Nation Road and the late James Earl Campbell. She was a member of Bells United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son; James L. Hodges of Abbeville, her mother; Grace Simpson Campbell of Abbeville, two brothers; Lawrence Campbell and Kenneth Campbell both of Abbeville, three sisters; Joan Dickson, Muriel Hanna and Linda Waits all of Abbeville, one grandson; Chip Hodges and one granddaughter; Kay Hodges. She was predeceased by a brother; Harold Campbell.
Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Wednesday, December 26, 2001 at Bells United Methodist Church with Revs. Lowry and Beth Drennon officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The body is at Harris Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday. The family is at the home of her son; James L. Hodges, 312 Noble Estates, Abbeville.

Peggy Swink
ABBEVILLE — Alice Corrine “Peggy” Swink, 76, formerly of Cedar Springs Road, widow of Mat William Swink, passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at the home of her daughter.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Joe David and Lillie Belle Taylor Minor. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church of Abbeville and was retired from Abbeville Manufacturing Company.
Surviving is a son, the Rev. William Edward Swink of Rutherfordton, N.C.; a daughter, Shirley S. Bordner of Greenwood; a brother, Riley Minor of Abbeville; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are at 2 today at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. D. Earl Hartley and the Rev. James Blackwell. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 1-2 today at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of her daughter, 104 Piper St., Greenwood.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.

Martha Weatherly
CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — Martha Martin Weatherly, 51, of 64 Campbell St., wife of Jerry Weatherly, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001.
She was a daughter of the late Albert and Bessie Parker Martin. She attended McCormick Public Schools. She was a member of the new Mt. Ararat Temple House of Prayer.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home is a daughter, Katrina Weatherly of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Eric Weatherly of Buffalo, N.Y.; two sisters, Addie Lee Scott of Cincinnati and Beorgetta Wiggleton of McCormick and nine brothers, Homer Martin of McCormick, Edward Martin and Wallace Martin, both of Greenwood, Barnett Martin of Spartanburg, Andrew and Lester Martin, both of Indianapolis, Leon Martin and Frank Martin, both of Buffalo, N.Y. and Douglas Martin of Oldsmar, Fla.
Services are Saturday at Brian K. Lewis Funeral Home in Buffalo, N.Y.

Ruby Baldwin
SIMPSONVILLE — Ruby Fleming Baldwin, 82, of 555 New Harrison Bridge Road, wife of Edward L. Baldwin, passed away Monday, December 24, 2001 at her home.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late James W. and Mary Lollis Fleming. She was a member of Princeton Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of the home, one stepson, Jerry Baldwin and wife Robin of Simpsonville, one daughter, Debbie B. Ridgeway and husband Michael of Simpsonville, one brother, Rev. Alvin Fleming of Columbia, one sister, Allie Mae Thompson of Anderson, and one granddaughter, Michelle Ridgeway of Simpsonville. She was predeceased by a brother, Dale Fleming and a sister, Lib Hughes.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday at Princeton Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Hardin, Rev. Don Tumblin, and Rev. Alvin Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
The body is at Parker-White Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday. The family is at the home.

Ollie Benton
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Ollie “Tate Bug” Benton, 70, of 157 Courtland Place, husband of Louise Benton, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, in Asheville.
Born in Asheville, he was a son of the late Ollie and Dora Pullins Benton Sr. and a member of Mount Oliver Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Dana Benton, Gregory Benton and Dwayne Bwayne McAsee, all of Asheville; a brother, Clarence Benton of Asheville; two sisters, Marie “Be Be” Benton of Jacksonville, Fla., and Linda Balentine of Asheville; and nine grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Wednesday at Mount Oliver Baptist Church.
The family is at the home of an aunt, Mrs. Mary T. Day, Pine Ridge Apts., B-4, Greenwood, S.C.
